Re: “Grant Road Rage

"If the City had not wasted all the money on the stupid "light Rail"..ah "Modern Street car"... or.."Neighborhood Trolley"... what ever it's called this week, there would be money to actually help people." The City had no say in this decision. It was approved by the voters back in 2006 when the RTA was approved by the voters along with a $.05 sales tax to fund that project along with others. Plus, most of the money is a federal TIGER grant.

Re: “Defending Congressman Trent Franks' Comments About Rape and Pregnancy

Thanks for posting this compilation of efforts, Jim. I also looked at Rep. Franks' comment from many angles yesterday and today. In fact, I posted the video of the entire Judiciary Committee meeting yesterday (bit.ly/AZp545), and then re-visited it today and found (and posted) the transcript of the hearing (bit.ly/AZ547). I tried to post lots of context with little editorial content.

I think besides your discussion of "incidence" (or "incidents"), you need to look at the other part of Franks' comments and explanation - his attempts to explain the (most-desired) timing of reporting a rape vs. the timing of abortions which would be prohibited by this bill, and to try to get in a dig at Democrats for focusing on the rape and incest exceptions (to his bills). (If you want to dig really deep, add in that Chabot had brought up the pregnancy-by-rape issue in the subcommittee the week before, and that Franks might have been trying to distill that into his ripostes.)

Taking all that into account, as Weigel sort of stated above, it would seem that Franks was not making a very cohesive argument for his case. The Democrats are attempting to blow it out of proportion, and his inability to articulate a coherent and plausible explanation makes it easier for people to accept the Democrats' hyperbole. (I did a Fact Check on the Franks vs. EMILYs List claims on this bill a couple of weeks ago, and it is still playing out: bit.ly/AZp524.)

Re: “Editor's Note

You can still comment anonymously-just create a fake name Facebook page. All you need is an email address and those are easy to come by. While most of the Republic's comments are not anonymous some are.

Re: “Immigration Reform Reax: DREAM Act Kids Freak Out Congressman Steve King

oh hush Grijalva. Last I checked, 20+ people of any race aren't just let into a DC office. Why were they in there if he wasn't even there? And how about you talk to the non-latino/hispanic non-illegal folks. You'll something about the United States from them.

I see a definite correlation between the Tea Party and the Nazi
Party.

Re: “Guest Commentary

What does this have to do with Raul Grijalva? He's too busy getting drunk right now and so he's chosen not to be a part of this issue. We are asking for public records from the City of Tucson, as City residents and taxpayers. That is the issue here.

But after this tussle, it will be back to "governance" as usual.. which means working to get reelected, and not to serve the people of Arizona.

Re: “Grant Road Rage

Screwed by the RTA. By the time they are scheduled to widen the section near our place... hell, I'll likely be dead. But we'll have those WONDERFUL Michigan left-turns all up and down this road.

riorican: check again, I directly addressed the problem in my post just above yours...

Instead of subsidizing Raytheon and the rest of the war mongers they should FIND THE MONEY to help the people they have harmed...

I thought that the El Rio for the People movement fought to create a community center. I did not know they also fought to maintain the golf course??? Let's face it, the author and his father will always hate Regina and anyone even closely associated with Raul Grijalva.

Re: “Grant Road Rage

Sweet piece, Mr. Nitzel.

Although, I'm dismayed that, so far, none of the comments I've read seem to acknowledge what was your central point.

Which was, "In the meantime, the Garcias are huddling in a small bedroom with their kids while they wait for their insurance company to decide what it's willing pay to replace the wall."

What a cold, heartless place Tucson is becoming.

Why not release those records detailing the relationship between TREO and the City of Tucson?

Closed door, "self-appointed clique" decision-making style politics and politicians have got to go!

Re: “Defending Congressman Trent Franks' Comments About Rape and Pregnancy

If abortion was treated like tubal ligation or vasectomy i.e. a medical procedure between a patient and physician, the "Gosnell situation" would have never existed. Defending anti-choice politicians, who keep moving the goalposts for a safe, legal medical procedure, isn't a good look on you Tucson Weekly.
