Re: “No Healthcare Vote Today After All

Make it stop! Ever since the Republicans rolled out their version of health care -- and they use the word "care" loosely -- with all the political theater and changes and modifications and mansplaining and on and on, it feels like this is some inside the beltway Game of Thrones Red Wedding episode where the only thing left alive will be the angry old vindictive white guy laughing at the carnage and grabbing the crotch of his underage daughter-bride.

Re: “"Martha McSally Is Not Answering"

Rep. McSally is OUR representative for the next two-ish years, this is a fact that constituents who DID or DID NOT vote with her must reconcile with. The caveat is that Trump LOST the same district by 5 points, a fact that our Representative ought to remember. Summed up, the mandate for her in her district is to be a CHECK on executive powers, on Donald Trump.

While we might think that we only get a voice every two years during the elections, this is not true. It is high time that we remind Rep. McSally that she represents a district that likes her moderate rhetoric and her "maverick" ideals. We can do this by engaging with her office: call them up at (520)881-3588 and either lodge a comment OR set up a meeting with staff to discuss issues. This is a little known think that we, as constituents, can do. Gather up in a small group of like minded people, and call to schedule a meeting with Constantine or Nancy and come prepared for a good discussion about a single issue (since effective meetings start with a focused topic).

Engagement with your Congressional offices is intensely rewarding and is the next step in citizen engagement.

Re: “"Martha McSally Is Not Answering"

Josh, would you vite with your antagonists, or your supporters in the last election, if it aligns with your core beliefs?

It sounds like your candidate lost. That has consequences. Your purpleness doesn't dictate anything.

Re: “"Martha McSally Is Not Answering"

No need to call McSally's office, despite her pretense, we know how she will vote- WITH Trump: reports that McSally is in the top 10 of all 435 Representatives in the House as a partisan in favor of Trump. They report she has voted One Hundred Percent with Trump's agenda, despite the fact that CD 2 is one of the most "purple" districts in the country.

Just one example from 538's report: McSally, despite being from a district where our former Representative was shot in the head by a crazy person, just voted to prevent federal background checks on the mentally ill before they can buy a gun.…

Re: “No Healthcare Vote Today After All

Congressman McSally played this brilliantly. We state a position on legislation that isn't even getting a vote? If you believe the things that you wanted to see in it, are not there, you may cost yourself political capital on a future vote. As a resident of PC I feel we are currently in a better position than before the cancellation of the vote.

She COULD show real leadership and put real solutions together and get the votes, because quite honestly the ACA destroyed my health insurance. I would actually accept going back to where I was before Obama created this mess, and work out some real solutions.

I know how you feel Matt. When Gabby Giffords told us the border was secure I disagreed. And now we see the carnage of her lies. I wanted her voted out, but my vote was washed away by the open borders crowd. It's something you just have to get used to.

Re: “"Martha McSally Is Not Answering"

If the "Affordable Care Act simply isnt working.." why not fix it? Instead you've ridden this horse right off a cliff. Seven years of passing Obamacare repeal bills and this is what the GOP has been able to come up with? They are simply incapable of running a government.

Vote her out. She's not working for this state or her constituents.

Re: “"Martha McSally Is Not Answering"

I'm sorry but I am confused.

Are we trying to control health care costs, or health care insurance costs? What have the doctors and the drug companies done to help?

Re: “Is Antisemitism Rising to the Threat Level?

SECOND Jew arrested for phoning in JCC threats: "The suspects father has also been arrested and the court extended his detention until March 30, saying he appeared to be involved in most of the same crimes and many of the threatening telephone calls."…

This just keeps getting funnier.

Re: “We Look Smaller in Boston

Mercatur was introduced and created by a Dutch/Flemish cartographer in the 16th century. It is useful because it accurately maintains directional bearing, so it is a great navigational map and very useful, and it was used by Eurpean Trading companies to conquer the world. Google uses a web mercatur projection for all of it's mapping. In order to maintain accurate directional bearing the mercatur projection distorts the size and area of land masses near to the poles. This is the root of political bias complaints but this map was not created to present a false picture of the world, that came later. This projection was created as a navigational tool.

Map projections are just that, a projection of an imperfect geoid onto a flat surface. There is no way to maintain area, distance, direction and shape. No matter what projection you choose you will sacrifice one or more than one of these. This newly adopted Peters Projection is an equal area projection, which means it distorts shapes, as anyone can see by looking at it.

I think it is inappropriate for a school to present any single one of these maps without the context. Teaching about basic mapping and geography is important. If we teach children that different map projections serve different purposes they can then seek out the map that best suits their needs for any particular project or application. Basing a map choice on a political platform is just plain wrong. Mercatur and Peters should be hung side by side and viewed as a teaching opportunity, not swapped out every time politics change.

Re: “Removing TUSD Superintendent Prioritized Over Finding Replacement

Thanks for the feedback.

"Be kind?" That's what you advise, while writing a comment like that? Interesting.

The advice of people like you -- people who want to suppress informed discussion of what is ACTUALLY going on in TUSD and who aggress, in the comment streams and elsewhere, against those who bother to take the time needed to share valid information -- should be disregarded. But your opinions and advice (and insults) are definitely useful in helping us understand what is going on locally: as was highlighted nicely in the comment stream on the piece linked below, a network of bullies is hard at work in Tucson, relentlessly and systematically using every means at their disposal to make sure their lies steer public opinion. Oh, and (as above) punching anyone who dares to disagree in the face.

Re: “MMJ Briefs

For all their pretenses about being places of higher learning most colleges and universities still get substantial amounts of money from the federal government and as long as marijuana use is against federal law it will be illegal to use it on campus.

As for the claim to be places of learning, the only thing getting "higher" is tuitions. They are businesses that front for the largest organized slave institution known -- the NCAA -- and many graduates are forced into indentured servitude to pay back the student loans that were so easily made available.
