"... actually had grocery stores, stop lights, and BUSSES."

I'm sure it had buses as well as kisses.

Re: “Tucson Salvage

You gotta new fan. Hey you are word-y and conversation-y and too often vote for abstractions over the tangible. First person is second-y. And we all need a little more sensory detail. But you got style! And your prose moves quickly. Remember go for the sentiment rather than the sentimentality. Great topics!

Scary. Really scary. What is the issue? Critical thinking skills? Inbreeding? No thinking skills?

I know what that feels like, as does any animal lover.

One of mankind's greatest curses is the fact that we are doomed to outlive our most beloved nonhuman friends.

Best wishes to you, Julie.

Re: “Tucson Is A Vacuum—And I'm Ok With That

Tucson is a nice place. I think that people who hate this town, are unrealistic about the potentialls of this town. It's quiet, and has a lot of things that can be taken as slow. For instance, we have a light rail system that could cross the town but the politicians feel that this cannot be another Portland Oregon. A while ago when I was driving back from Phoenix to move back to Tucson, I took the long way back home through Oracle and on the way back here I heard Tohono O'oham Music and realized I was home. I cried. It was good to be back. And I knew that as a person moving back Tucson This place could be a great place like Portland Oregon. It is up to the rest of us who feel that this is a hellhole, to turn this into a great place. I do not understand why there are so many haters for this place that could be so great. The author of this article needs to have her head checked. The weather is great , And it cools down at night unlike Phoenix. It is up to us to make sure that this town is a great place. We don't need a baseball team to make us feel great. It does not take some stupid art project to make this place a center of culture. Tucson has been around since colonial times and has thrived despite the fact that there is nothing here, other than a nice place with great people and wonderful surroundings. We are at the taco truck or should I say the Sonora hotdog Capital of the world. This may not be Paris France where Hemingway was king, but this is the place where Edward Abbey would have like to have called home. Mexicans, native Americans, White people, African-Americans, and Asians call this place home. It's a great place, make it better. Let's bring jobs here and infrastructure like those found in Portland and Los Angeles, and enjoy The great diversity that exist in this "hell hole that the stupid author" feels exist .

Re: “Song of the Day: 'Tucson Kills'

Billy is one of a kind. He is an inspiration to a lot of people. This song told the story that he wanted to tell and did it well. ;) Tucson is an amazing city with wonderfully unpretentious people. Anyone who's spent quality time there knows...

Re: “Tucson Is A Vacuum—And I'm Ok With That

Shitty - "Two bit town speed trap"-style parking tickets around TCC

Gritty - Tucson drivers speeding up at pedestrians in parking lots

Dimwitty - Hispanics flying TRUMP flags on their homes

Come on now this whole thing is really my fault. I just get a kick out of dragging all the liberals out on a full moon and bitch slapping them a little. See you next month.

I prefer "Keep Tucson Gritty!" myself. Never have seen the point in being shitty.

Re: "There will never be another musical act like them."

I fully agree but need to add a qualifier: The Beatles were phenomenal but it was a combination of their talent and an era of time that makes it something unlikely to ever be reproduced.

I haven't seen the film yet, but I look quite forward to it.

Re: “Teacher Shortages: Things Are Bad All Over (Only More So In Arizona)

I presume "Our teacher shortages began in earnest with the 2008 economic recession" could not refer to Tucson Unified School District, which has seriously and regularly had that problem since the 20th century.

Re: “Tucson Is A Vacuum—And I'm Ok With That

I love Tucson for a number of reasons but I have also experienced my own fair share or trials and tribulations. Notably, I am lonely as fuck! Most of the really good people I grew up with booked town and never looked back, and many of the other 'natives' I know have fallen into drug/alcohol abuse and are not what I want to associate with.

There is a negative stigma with being a local and there always has been. Even as a kid, the children who's parents dragged them to Tucson wore their hometowns as a badge of honor, with a side of better-than-thou. I have lost track of the number of times people react with what seems like revulsion at finding out that I am a local and how many people seem to lose interest in perusing friendships at that point. Maybe it is surprise or pity but it has made it really difficult to make new friends with people who are not from here because they tend to not want to associate with locals. I get it, I don't want to associate with the locals either!

Should I just start lying and tell people I am from Colorado? People don't think I am a local until I tell them, so I can probably get away with it... What do you think? How many of you transplants have local friends?

Re: “Trump's Childcare Plan Is As Phony as the Rest of His Proposals

Hey Nintzel, Could I interest you in a valium? Or maybe you should just smoke a bowl and calm down.
Maybe it's time to attend another "civility in discourse" meeting. Have you been playing hooky Jim?
That Ally Miller election result along with the latest Prez polling seems to really have your nerves on edge.
So after writing five times to the commentary section you have suddenly discovered that you are
wasting your valuable time? ..........Priceless and pompous at the same time/ Yep, you need to save your strength for the masses who tune into watch you on AZ Public Tele.
Love the way you pulled a TD and went anecdotal with charming stories of childcare.
Tom would always go long winded about his fabulous teacher wife and honor student kids whenever any one dared to question public education results. Nice deflection tactic, but totally off topic.
I don't doubt that your mom was nearly a saint and that you " hit the lotto" so to speak with your choice of teachers/ caregivers. None of whom I insulted by hassling you about the Trump child care entitlement proposal. The "BS media" and "phony" were taken from your last sentence.
" Indoctrination" and "institutionalized" are pointed at the heavy overreach of Government departments and you damn well knew that I wasn't criticizing individual workers. Think IRS, Justice Dept., Dept. of Education, and the EPA Jim. Many of your favorites I'm sure.

My point is that the Trump entitlement is still an entitlement. You should be ecstatic. The debate has been framed just the way you want it, much to the chagrin of many conservatives. Oh my, a tax credit
instead of a deduction, unacceptable. More earned income tax credit shenanigans, nothing new.
It seems that new jobs should be the first step when considering the numbers of men out of work and not looking for work. Don't have to worry about the kiddies until you have to leave the house.
As for "ideological one track", don't throw any stones Jim. I've watched the way you do the " party hack" thing on your TV show. You are kind of a George Stephanopolus "wanna be" in our Old Pueblo.
By the way, your fake righteous indignation isn't fooling anyone either. Seems to be more of an anger management issue with you. How long has your party been running education?
I am taking being called " deplorable" by a Hillary supporter as a badge of honor. Playing the race card
on Rat T was right out of the Dem playbook too. Have a wonderful weekend.

Mr. AZ/DC You really are a waste of time. Bringing back "Teabaggers" again eh?
Talk about no originality. People who disagree with you should shut up and go away I take it.
Why don't you find yourself a little "safe zone" with the other "snow flakes" and cover your little ears.
Maybe you can send Nintz a private love letter via snail mail next time. It would be a lot less humiliating than going down on him ( metaphorically speaking of course) in plain public view.
And a blessed day to you also.
