Greedheads and thieves loot, and some of them work, too. Mr. Justice is a know-nothing asshole, and part of his shtick/agenda in playing to the rather substantial know-nothing asshole market audience is demonizing and ridiculing people of color. This is just S.O.P. for Mr. Injustice.
FYI, Linda lives in Marin County. Saying she "moved to San Francisco" is like saying someone who lives in Nogales as someone who "moved to Tucson".
As for the homophobic, stereotypical and ignorant remarks about S.F., California and Linda of so many of the people who posted here -- WOW -- Step away from the faux-noise machine...
So long as the media and politicians get away with blaming teachers for society's failures the condition of public schools in poor areas will not improve significantly. There may be islands of success, but as a whole the public schools will not improve.
One of the goals of those who promote charters and private schools is to cherry pick the best students from traditional public schools, leaving those with poor skills, poor attitudes and poor behavior to struggle in traditional public schools. The Education Trust has pushed the notion that quality teaching can undo virtually all the problems caused by failed social institutions...including poverty, dysfunctional families, drugs and violence. The reality is that most of the Education Trust's claims are bogus, based on studies done with miniscule samples of students who were not chosen randomly.
The Obama administration, through its policies that scapegoat teachers and promote charter schools as some sort of panacea, has reinforced the notion that schools should be responsible for curing all of society's ills. Until we recognize that the current corporate based approach to education change (it is not worthy of the name "reform") has failed miserably we will never make headway in closing the achievement gaps between the middle class and the under class and between whites and Asians on one hand and Native Americans, African Americans, and Hispanics on the other.
I guess this happens when you hang out with former Jesuit seminary student and Gov. Moonbeam! CA, land of nuts, fruits and flakes, and especially SF. Poor St. Francis, he must spin in his grave.
I haven't read all the comment so I apologize if I am repeating what could have been written earlier, but people who WORK don't usually go out LOOTING. Anyone else agree?
This show is on view until September 15th. The opening reception was held August 17th.
With all due respect, were we better off when downtown was a bunch of empty buildings, homeless folks and the Wig-O-Rama? Maybe downtown was good in the first half of the 1900s, but NOT in the latter half until all of the new development started happening. Lovin' downtown!
I have an idea. Take all the money from the foothills and give it to south Tucson. Then the map will be reversed!!!
In other news the sun came up this morning.
It seems funny that with Ms Ronstadt's disdain for religion, she failed to mention this:
Islamic State message to America: 'We will drown all of you in blood'...
islamic society of san francisco
I can't figure her out.
David, thanks for publicizing Richard's hard work.
The P.C. world has become quite TEDIOUS! -Lighten up people & allow yourself to smile & laugh w/o analyzing (sp?) thru ur political prism!
How do you fight back against this kind of crap? Railing against this idiot won't hurt him. The more you point out his stupidity the more his audience loves him. One word: Advertisers. Contrary to his lofty opinion of himself he really has one job: sell advertising. If you want to hurt him, find out who his sponsors are are make it a point of telling them you won't do business with them as long as they support him. His audience is very small and radio advertising is not that powerful so if business paying big bucks for spots on his show finds it's hurting them they'll dump him in a heart beat and put their marketing dollars some place less obnoxious. So tune him in and start taking notes then take action.
How can that statement possibly be racist?? Besides, that Famous Footwear may have never been looted had they posted a "Now Hiring" sign on the front door!! Just saying....
"I am employed by school systems all over the country, as a professional educational consultant"
A consultant is someone YOU pay to use YOUR watch to tell YOU what time it is! I have NO love for consultants of ANY kind as the use of these so-called professionals is an admission that you don't know how to tell time!
Gregory, the online schools work fine. I know at least one graduate. They are a fine alternative for someone who wants the school curriculum but doesn't think their child is a fit for a standard institutional school.
Both government schools and private schools are the problem. The entire Prussian educational model is broken as is the disciplinary environment. The public/private/charter divide is just a bunch of people arguing about how to re-arrange the deck chairs on the Titanic.
Frank, it should be, "Two other factors you don't mention are intelligence and values.", not, "Two other factors you don't mention is intelligence and values.", which is what you wrote.
Oddly, there is no comment from that kid's FATHER.
The only thing I agree on is yes, the city of Tucson (aka town clowncial) has given open season to developers with many historic buildings in Tucson city limits, the UofA is not much better. Tearing down historic buildings to build parking garages and as for the gay part she can stay in sanfransico.
Linda, if you're so afraid of your children being exposed to opposing opinions, you will have to home school them (I wouldn't be surprised if you already do). Then, when classes are done for the day you can just lock them up in a closet. That way, they will never be exposed to horror stories such as the possibility that there just might be a God.
Don't you realize that you are subjecting your kids to censorship just like many other beautiful countries in the world such as China and North Korea ? What a dolt !
