Re: “StoryCorps: Marisa Grijalva Talks to Her Dad About His Parents

Ms. Herreras: In stead of a pretty mug shot of the Grijalva family, may I make a suggestion so as to provide the readers of the Tucson Weekly with the facts of TUSD during the tenure of one named Adelita Grijalva? :....Check the Enrollment Statistics, Central Administration Expansion, Budget Allocations, and AIMS Scores.

The support, in this case, tacit support, of this School Board Candidate by the Tucson Weekly should NOT be a "knee jerk" reaction to her incumbency and her families affiliation with the Democratic Party. The Tucson Weekly will loose readership ..and...more importantly...Credibility.

This guy is a jerk. I regularly ride my bike on University and 4th Ave. If necessary I move over and let the streetcar go past. He should of been ticketed.

Re: “Danehy

I don't know where to begin other than to say this is a great example of Tom's general propensity for negativity and overstatement. To say that the school has "never" been mistaken for a religious institution is both an over application of the universal "never" and is simply untrue. I teach at The Gregory School and 90% of the time people ask me if it's Catholic or wonder what it's like to teach at a Christian school. TGS has been secular since 1987 when the school parted ways with the Episcopal church. So if we are hiding from religion as one of the commenters said we are, we have been doing so for 27 years. As for 100% of our community not liking the change or simply not engaging, again Tom has his facts wrong. Of course there will never be 100% agreement but the most progressive alum and students understand this as a necessary, well informed, and deeply considered marketing decision. The name Gregory is well known, well respected, and well loved in the community and we knew we wanted to keep that esteemed association in our name, but, in the competitive educational marketplace in Tucson, we just couldn't afford to have potential families believe us to be anything other than what we are -- THE best academic AND college preparatory high school AND whole child 5-8 middle school in Tucson. So THE Gregory School we have become. Same great teachers, students, coaches, and parents just a slightly, more accurate, name. I know Tom needs to critique or he'd be out of a job, but this time the critique is inaccurate, off-base, and inaccurate.

North of the River: This week, we chose not to run Currents pieces to make more room for the Charles Bowden tribute. Not a 1013 thing, just an editorial decision for one week.

Re: “There's A Whole Lot Of "I Am The Man" In Stegeman

TUSD Needs New Leadership says: "Take a good look at every other governing board in our county and you will not find anyone who performs their duties in the way that BOTH Grijalva and Stegeman have approached theirs."

All this statement shows is an unfamiliarity with the members of other governing boards in Pima County. Sunnyside had three governing board members who were just plain evil. Now, following a recall, they are down to only one. Catalina Foothills, where the student demographics produce excellent results despite an administration that has driven out many wonderful educators, has several Board members who don't have a clue what really goes on in that district. It is pointless to go on since your statement has already been proven false.

The issue is not that Governing Board members in TUSD cannot get along or were absent when "how to compromise" was taught in the first grade. The issue is that the Board majority puts their own interests and the interests of the administration far ahead of the learning needs of students. Just a quick look at where TUSD spends its money can tell you that...if you take the time to look.

Re: “There's A Whole Lot Of "I Am The Man" In Stegeman

There is no such phenomenon as School Board Micromanagement! The Board sets Policy!!! The Administration implements this Policy!!...and is the Boards responsibility to insure that this is done!! All Administrative Offices within Central Administration, School Administration, Teachers, Students, and Staff answer DIRECTLY to the Board.

The Board can delegate authority, of course; but, the responsibility of insuring that TUSD is providing a Positive/Successful Academic Experience to ALL Students in the District resides with the Board.

The Boards delegation of authority does not entail an abnegation of their responsibility as the guardians of the System of Public Education within TUSD.

Re: “Kid Goes Off on His Mom for Getting Pregnant, Again

The video has been taken down by the mother I'm supposing. I did see an article and they were at meal time my guess would be when she told the children. I know if I had ever had another child, it would be during a great activity and making sure my 1 child was upbeat about things around them before breaking the news.

Somone I just read and +sed the post how smart the child is. Based on what I read. Small children need to know they will always be the oldest and always be loved, not telling the children during meal time. Was the dad even there when the children were told?

Re: “Witness The Cutest Baby Elephant at The Reid Park Zoo

After 20+ yrs of teaching elementeray education, 1st graders, I've got a distaste when the Grammer Nazi's come out not to comment but to criticize someones great deeds. Whoever you are you shouldn't be doing this, you'll drve people away who don't speak ESL English or who spell according to how their accents are. My mother's from Japan and college grad in both Japan and here from Univ. of Hawaii, she still spells by her accent @90 yrs old. Stop the criticism, you don't go on msg boards for correct grammer, it's to share ideas and make your points. Point being beautiful calf elephant.

This is about a beautiful baby elephant and that is the topic at hand. David, great comments and please know, whatever your spellings typo's grammer education class you didn't sign up for, & criticism you recieved by one who knows all actually knows nothing, notice not a word about the calf, just nouns, pronouns. etc. Your post was well taken and great!

Re: “There's A Whole Lot Of "I Am The Man" In Stegeman

David: Do you have an example of the micromanagement to which you refer? I think that the main "micromanagement" problem in TUSD is Central overmanaging the schools.

Re: “There's A Whole Lot Of "I Am The Man" In Stegeman

TUSD Needs New Leadership: Your long post does not discuss a single actual issue facing TUSD, past or present. It is the obsessive focus on personalities rather than on issues and schools that tends to make the TUSD discussion so toxic. In the end no one cares who is on the board. What matters is what decisions the board makes.

People focus on personalities rather than on issues when the issues-driven discussion would not support the conclusions they want to reach.

I have never written a prescription, I have been administration for organizations that do in the past, I too am a supporter of legalization of cannabis. I am not sure of the motivation behind your comment but can make myself available to discuss. One Love

Re: “Patient Focused

LOL really a great article, Did I read this right ? A paid propagandist right here.

"Our staff is educated on the product, and they're familiar with alternative health care methods," What does that mean? Homeopathic , Naturists, or even smoke lodge these all have a endorsing group that make standards and license them for distribution and study.

" marijuana also treats conditions like epilepsy, cancer, and a long list of other issues ". Post-traumatic stress" I have MS and a severe nerve damage I have been to these HMMM Non-Profit never do they have a consistent supply of a phenol cannabis that helps me. But they are happy to help me with pain. I have a care giver that grows for me and has my needs in stock all the time.

There are currently 60,000 medical marijuana patients in Arizona, but more than a half million people here with PTSD," said Ruben. "That could potentially be our biggest market. Well there you go Market driven economics corner the market and raise the price!
In this case AZDHS has no standard of testing standards, no pesticide standards, no labeling or packaging standards for safety from children. What they do have is inventory control of weight or trying and this is how Dispensaries and the Government want to regulate MMJ.

" People say marijuana makes you forget, but if you've shot 50 people, maybe forgetting that isn't a bad thing" I doubt less than >0001% of the eligible people for PTSB ran around the middle east in a HummVee with a 50 caliber ridiculous.

Ruben, who spent much of his working life as a medical administrator prescribing painkillers, Correct me if I am wrong Administrators don't prescribe licensed professionals do. List his license professional association.

""We do a lot of social promotion of hippie ideals," he said. "Eat good, clean air, green energy, take care of yourself. I was born in 1952 was around the bay area in 67 noting here with MMJ is ever or can be associated with "Hippie ideals" because you have what resembles a " IRON BUTTERFLY" album don't make it hippie

We have come along way in so many ways from the 60's we remember Kennedy raising the troops in Vietnam from 500 to 50,000 Johnson from 50,000 to 500,000 all in an effort to help.
This dispensary route is not what the voter wanted with MMJ like my hippie ideal we have a long way to go.
Legalize having used cannabis for over 42 years it should be decimalized legalize only after the Federal government changes it's classification. Only then can comprehensive peer structured study can come from this plant. This is just an effort to try and exploit and profit.
