While I do love almost everything on The Cup menu, I prefer the Tofu Scramble at Blue Willow, preferably on the patio, and I agree with Susan that Mother Hubbard's Green Corn Waffle w/ green chilies is a quintessential Tucson breakfast. Speaking of breakfasts, I also love Ghini's Eggs Provencale, and I would really miss Adventure Coffee's Full Moon Blend.
Other favorites: the chocolate Babka and sandwiches at Beyond Bread, anything on Feast's ever changing menus, especially the chocolate truffle cookies, and my dogs and I can't let a weekend go by without a stop at Coffee Times drive through for Chai Tea Latte and dog biscuits...they are such nice people.

Mr. Gibson,
Although I appreciate the invitation to send you a review of what I consider to be an overlooked item in Tucson's essential dishes, there are two reasons that I will not be participating:
1) I actually haven't been to May's Counter Chicken & Waffles since about a year ago and although my experiences up until that point (at least four that I can recall) were good ones, I'm gonna have to give you (and others who chimed in) the benefit of the doubt on this one. I don't feel as if I can defend this restaurant anymore without more recent patronage considering the feedback that has been posted.
2) I barely have time to waste posting this, let alone get my S together and try to make a couple of visits (if TW has taught me one thing, it's that one visit wouldn't be fair) to a restaurant that is out of my two mile comfort zone radius. Call me lazy, busy, silly or all three. Yes, all three is best.
Thank you though, it does make me feel as if you have a genuine concern for this issue.
P.S. To Rita: all anyone ever needed to know was that your preference leaned towards Union's chicken & waffles and that you were disappointed with May's. The other info you included was TMI and not appealing whatsoever in a thread that involves food. (Gag!)

OK, shameless plug here. Our Prickly Pear Ice Pops are soon going to be thought of as essentially Tucson along with the Sonoran Hot Dog. Available at the Sunday Farmers Market. St. Phillips Plaza. No other place to get them other than Tucson farmers markets. And the Prickly Pear Coconut ice cream bar is unforgettable. And the Prickly Mango, and the Prickly Chiltepin. Yum. Prickly Pops!!

Haven't had the Cup Cafe's tamales but have had Tucson Tamales and they are excellent but still #2 on my favorites behind LERUAS.
As for Dry River Pizza it is tasty but I do not like thin crust pizza and rarely buy it. TINOS is Tucsons best pizza.

I like Union's chicken and waffles better. The savory waffle changes the balance. The only time I ever had May's was after a colonoscopy. I was starved by time we got there. But I was a little disappointed in the dish.

I'm going to have to agree with Dan regarding May's. After the first year, the quality of the waffles drastically dropped. Did they get new waffle irons? Because they are no longer as light and crispy as they once were.
That said, I still go there just not as frequently as I once did.

FWIW, I think the quality slipped somewhat at May's after the first year. Not sure why.

Aha Dan!!! I thought it was him because it was listed under his top 5...now I get it!!! Yup! Free maduros for life!!! Now, thanks to your mention in this article, I've created new topping options, a spicy nutella sauce, or honey and powdered sugar!!!!! Come on by!
