Re: “Del Dia

I've never understood the attraction to CPC. This is place is terrible. The prices are crazy high, the servings only look big because they add a bunch of unnecessary fluff to them. The salad is constantly awful and takes up half of your plate anyway. I went here once when I moved to Tucson years ago and never went back - there are so, so many better Mexican restaurants here!

Re: “Sichuan Sidepiece

You're really missing out if you only look at the American menu. The not-so-secret Szechuan menu is where the best menu items are hiding. Just thinking about it makes my mouth water…

The Szechuan menu isn't secret, it's just something you have to specifically request.

Re: “Sichuan Sidepiece

Madeline Gerrish worked as a nurse at St. Mary's before she opened S.O. I went to school with her grandson. He was a nice kid from a nice family. Real Tucson people.

I miss Tucson. That Tucson, anyway.

That was one of them we could never sneak into without being carded back in '70-'71.

Her name was "Magda" Her radio commercial was on KTKT, KCUB, KTUC, etc. between the Jim "That's exactly right Hank" Click and the Wally "Call for Wally" Sevitz commercials. "Hi, thisa Magda from Szechuan Omei......." And as Wally would say "and we'll come a-runnin"!

Re: “Sichuan Sidepiece

The story of this place is pretty cool. Most long time people in town remember Madeline's ads on TV. I can't remember the catch line but she was this cute little old woman inviting everyone to eat there. The remarkable part is that she bought the restaurant on her own without telling her husband - very nontraditional for the time and culture. She was a powerhouse in the city,

Re: “Noshing Around

We stopped by Monday at 1:50 pm and was told that you were NOT serving anymore. Not a good way to attract customers!M

Re: “Dining With Soul

Did I just post to a five-year-old thread? What was it doing on the Chow Main Page?

Maybe they can change up their apparently less-than-stellar image this way.

It's the Heather Hoch channel now. All Heather, all the time!

Fortunately she seems to be a pretty good writer.
