Got to try their Carne Seca. The original Panchos (1960s) was hard to beat.
It's been a long time since I last ate at La Indita. After reading this reviewer's complementary review it won't be long before I try it again. Well prepared guacamole, flan and chili rellenos aren't too common, despite the abundance of Mexican restaurants in Tucson.
Long Live La Indita! It was one of my first Tucson restaurants, and every restaurant following is compared to the amazing food La Indita prepares. If you've not experienced this Tucson classic it is time you get moving on it!
La Indita has been a staple for local environmentalists for years and will still be for many years to come!
I called mine nana and one of them only spoke Italian. What can I say?
As far as the lasagna goes, that wasn't lasagna in any place on the planet.
weird that the tucson weekly's spellcheck missed 'nonna' so many times.
also, as a fellow italian, you must've forgotten lasagna is only supposed to be whatever is available to the italian region. in the north, it's meat & béchamel. in the south, it's vegetables and sometimes sweetbreads. at olive garden, it's whatever you're describing it's supposed to be.

"Heart and soul of the city" huh Ollie? I think there are countless Mexican families in the Old Pueblo that could challenge you on that! I go to places to enjoy my meal, not to be annoyed by loudmouths, retired or otherwise. Must have touched a nerve, huh Ollie?

used to stop by the taqueria on my bike ride to work...because they were open for actual workers. but i guess that was the problem, not enough hip white people were stopping by, had to make it more upscale. upside is, i eat a lot more oatmeal and almond butter.
It's your own fault about the sopapillas: they're not an Arizona thing so you're not going to find very good ones like you do in Colorado, New Mexico and parts of Texas. And, I'm sorry, but El Minuto is garbage and a total tourist trap that's guilty of many of the same sins as Mosaic.
I disagree with some of this, but I think it's good to call out Mosaic. They've been riding the tide of the name recognition for many years, sometimes undeservingly so, and have become somewhat complacent. They've been needing core changes for a while at the Ironwood Hills location.
That said, Mosaic Dos, on La Cholla is much better, both for food and for atmosphere. There's also usually not been a wait for a table when I've been. Bad location, but it's worth visiting and is the best Mexican available in the Foothills.
Mosaic also had a location in El Segundo, California, near LAX, for several years, that closed only a few months ago. I never got to go, but I was curious if they relented and served the slop that the Californians like, or kept with traditions. Based on their closing, I would guess the latter.
Another shout out for Tony's. That place is the real deal. I've been to Fortunato's before and have to agree with the reviewer. Pretty disappointed.
One Man's opinion. I enjoy Fortunato's. Great subs, meat and cheeses always fresh. Great pasta and potato salad. You want Lasagna, try and Italian restaurant.
My favorite deli shop in town is Dickman's. Great peppered jerky and of course you have to get an "ugly" steak for Sunday football.
Totally agree. We moved to the area about a month ago, and we've been making the restaurant rounds. We stopped here last week, and was very disappointed. We were hoping for something similar to Defalcos in Phoenix, not even close.the meet all sub tasted liked boiled ground beef with no seasoning. The potatoe salad tasted like Safeway deli salad. The cannoli was ok, but I've had better.
I agree with Joshua, Tony's is great. Real food made to order. Their Ruben is to die for.

give tonys italian deli on 22nd a try. I travel out east to get food from them it's so good.
