I think the "music" that "influenced" Mr Gelb et al was more the yowling of feral cats in the alleys of Tucson and discombobulated street poetry of the bohemian wino than the awesome soundtracks of any western movies no matter what era
Hey, Joshua...a "50s Western" would be cowboy music, like Rex Allen and Roy Rogers. The music that may have "influenced" Gabe Sullivan and Howe Gelb and others is more likely the Ennio Moricone soundtracks of Sergio Leone's "spagheti westerns" of the late 60s-early 70s. The ones that did so well with Clint Eastwood.
"Frequently gigging". That means they play about 6 times a year for their friends.
I bought Sedlmayer's Charmed Life after reading his excellent remembrances of Neil Young's early recordings. Charmed Life is one great album. Not a throw away in the bunch.
She has always had that maturity and confidence when speaking, even in high school. This girl is the real deal! ❤️
Much love and support for you..I can't wait to see you in lights!!! Good job!!!
Great article and, by the way, your album is fantastic. Every song's a keeper. I urge everyone to get Billy's cd.
Great job, Kaylor! Keep up the hard work! Dream~Believe~Achieve!

I had the pleasure of first meeting Michael, Ted and the other Santa Cruz band members when they were touring in Wales, UK, some years ago. After that I went to every performance they did when they returned to Wales. Such a talented, gracious and inspirational man. His boys are a great credit to him and their family. They always had time at the end of a gig to chat with audience members, with a genuine interest and enthusiasm. I gave Michael a book of Welsh tunes the last time I met up with them, as a link to Wales where they and their music was so loved. I hope that they enjoyed playing them. There will always be a welcome in Wales for the Ronstadt family if they are able to visit here again. Papa Mike's passing has saddened me and my musician friends more than I can express. That is a wonderful tribute to him which Dan has written. Sincere condolences to Deborah and all those who loved him. Papa Mike - you were so loved and will be sorely missed. Les H, North Wales
About an hour ago I was thinking of my favorite Devo songs. Almost all of them are present here. Red Eye Express, Booji Boy's Funeral, Jocko Homo, Beautiful World.
Also love Timing X, Smart Patrol, Going Under, Planet Earth, Satisfaction and Worried Man.
A wonderful and intimidate portrait of a great man and his legendary family!
Humble, yet you could always see the passion for life, and concern for people, in his eyes. He not only spoke to you, he listened w/ compassion and concern, deep thought & kindness for all... To my dear cousins in AZ....Our Love and soul felt heartache is with you.... Michael was a special light in this changing world. A light that kept us all connected to learning and knowing the value of each of our own heritage. Those special souls that Lived before us, Shared, Gave, and Loved not only their families, but those around them.... You dear man, Michael J. Ronstadt, my cousin, a true legacy <3 <3
Glad to see you are still covering local music and all the bands that will be at HOCO. Not!
Thank You to the Weekly and Dan Buckley for memorializing Mike Ronstadt. He was a Tucson treasure for many reasons. He was a true gentleman that always had time to listen to peoples stories. He cared deeply for everything around him. He had a way of stealing your heart with a song and then carrying the conversation into how to fix a river. I have known Michael since Junior High and kept our friendship all these years. I will miss him deeply.
So true about Michael. Just being next to him I felt grounded. How lucky I feel to have know him even though our time was split from high school till now. He changed me in many ways. The music continues.
He always stayed humble as we adored him, his beautiful voice and his tender heart.
What a beautiful tribute to Michael, Daniel. Thank you for sharing your experience of him with the world.
Wonderful job, Dan.
