Re: “Soundbites

I knew Michael off and on for many years, and saw him play in various different bands over those years and was always amazed by his guitar playing. He put something into it that few are able to do. He was also such a gentle and kind man. I remember talking to him at a show at the Rialto not too long ago, and he told me he remembered the guitar and the amp I was playing at a gig I had done and that he had attended many years before (at the Route 66 Bar, of all places). He had that much attention to detail, and he was one of the most generous and nicest people I've ever know. He will be missed by so many in the Tucson music community, for he was genuine, a true gentleman and a very special spirit.
R.I.P Michael, we loved you, man.

Re: “Blues Explosion!

Always did like that band. Love the raw sound and the randomness some songs have.

Re: “Love Their Way

Saw Richard and Tim in Charlotte at The Chop Shop on July 31st and was blown away by Richard's presence on stage and how tight the entire band sounds. I don't think many who have heard the Furs recently would dispute that they sound better today than ever before. And Richard's smile and pure joy is nothing short of infectious. One regret is that we didn't bring our 11 and 14-year-old children - this set would be a fantastic experience to share forward with the next generation. Hope they keep touring and that we'll have the chance to see them in North Carolina once again. Favorites from the 90+ minute set: Heaven; Love My Way; Heartbreak Beat; The Ghost In You.

Re: “Nine Questions

Chicago Store was the only instrument store in Tucson that actually supported local musicians back in '96. They sponsored the local television show with in-kind donation of rental gear, "Let's Get Into Trouble, Baby". Wasn't Rainbow, wasn't Beavers, wasn't Guitars, Etc. nor any of the others that were approached. Chicago Store really came through.

Re: “Nine Questions

I'm reading this seven years later from across the world at 11.30pm, and this kid is still talented. I miss Tucson.

Re: “Nine Questions

Why did it take so long for Curtis to be in Nine Questions? He's one of the few people it actually makes sense to write about in this fashion.

Re: “Joshua Levine Was Right: Neutral Milk Hotel Announces Reunion Tour, Haters Can Suck It

This attempt to prove all the commenters of the original article wrong is even more pathetic than the original review, and that's saying something. First of all the fact that a reunion announcement has been made doesn't automatically make Mangum's motivation for touring before to be an advertisement. Also, at the time of the review this had not been announced, which is why this newest disgrace of an article on the topic appeared over a month after the original. If you were so sure why not jump to Levine's defense when the comments were being written. This is all a moot point, though, because the original article still stands as a personal vendetta, not a review. That one of the things the commenters latched on to to make their point has panned out doesn't invalidate the content of their discussion. This is a petty, juvenile announcement, and one I'm surprised representatives of the weekly would be willing to stoop to. After going back and reading the original review, as well as the comments, I actually think the commenter you quote here was right on the money, despite his criticism of the reunion announcement. Shame on you weekly indeed!

Re: “Soundbites

Filter is technically a two-hit wonder. Take a Picture, with its annoying refrain of "There goes my aeroplane", was actually a bigger hit than Hey Man, Nice Shot.

Really interesting Stephen, thanks!

I think that you would be really interested in some recent research that I have come across about crowds and citizen science.

It’s called “The Theory of Crowd Capital” and you can download it here if you’re interested:…

Really powerful stuff!

Re: “Love Their Way

Saw the Furs last year in Bristol UK. Simply stunning. Met Richard and his young lady in the city centre prior to the gig. Had a good chat with them. Can't wait for new material.

Definitely think this is one of their strongest releases in awhile. I Will Steal You Back is one of my favorites as well.
