Re: “Guest Commentary

Sorry to say the author was not criticizing Giffords stalling to get the pension. He was siting this as a quality of "astute business people".

It doesn't take a TUSD graduate to figure out that once injured, you could ride on disability for as long as it takes, and she would have waited longer, to secure your federal pension. In the meantime she left her constituents hanging without representation so she could conduct her 'business'.

It doesn't take a thinking person to determine Kelly is a bloated hypocrite. It's a simple observation that anyone can make.

Re: “Guest Commentary

Contrary to what all of you may think, Mr. Kelly is an elitist. He is a retired Naval aviation officer and astronaut. His life has been one of being coddled and was in a position to get away with what ever he wanted. Remember "Tail-hook"? It was Naval aviators harassing and molesting women. Kelly is part of that culture. It appears to me, and I may be wrong, he is using Gabby's injury as a stepping stone to politics. In the elitist world any and all publicity is good.

Re: “Danehy

Imagine that, Danehy has issues with anything remotely close to a conservative bent. Both parties are full of hypocrites, just neither of them can see it. Too bad the liberals will not call out one of their own when they stray, like Obama. I wasn't a fan of any of the Bush clan, although Bush the elder was a very nice man face to face. I have been lucky enough to meet three presidents, Carter, Bush and Clinton. Carter was the biggest ass of them all.

Re: “Mailbag

The dislike(s) above prove(s) that, even in this day and age, being thuggish is in vogue. Lord help us all.

Re: “Danehy

I recall being at opposite ends of whatever topic Barry Goldwater adopted. And I believe you are correct when you say that Goldwater would not sway from an idea even if it damaged him politically. Although some may say he was stubborn, he was a man if integrity, and even though I disagreed with him, I respected his integrity. What a rare and precious commodity that is among todays politicians.
Many may not know this about Goldwater...he was a talented photographer particularly of things having to do with Arizona, and a great collector of Kachina dolls which are now housed for the appreciation of the masses in the Heard Museum in Phoenix. Evidence of another quality Goldwater possessed that most politicians can't even define, humanity.

Re: “Guest Commentary

Yes, Kelly planned his escape into stardom really well, except that his wife was shot by a lunatic and he will be responsible for her care and comfort for the rest of her life. And you really want to criticize Gabby for waiting to receive a pension when she will never be able to work again? I think you can do better than that.

Re: “Pedersen On Sports

Desert Diamond is run by tribal officials who may or may not have gaming, hospitality and entertainment expertise. Casino Del Sol is run by gaming, hospitality and entertainment experts who may or may not be tribal.

The above sums it up quite nicely...

Re: “Danehy

Actually, hypocrite, thy name is Jeb. Anybody remember way, way back in 1989 a cuban terrorist named Orlando Bosch? He blew up a cuban airliner. Killed a whole bunch of people. Orlando illegally entered the country and was caught. Daddy's justice department wanted Orlando deported. Miami's cuban exiles considered Orlando a hero. Jeb steps in and gets his daddy to actually pardon the unrepentant murderer. Orlando lived the rest of his days in Miami, dying at the ripe old age of 84 a couple of years ago. Of course, pardoning Orlando made Jeb the sweetheart of the cuban exile community in Florida, who showered Jeb with money and votes. It was a major reason he was elected governor of Florida. And Danehy thinks Clint is a hypocrite?

Re: “Danehy

Romney lost the election because all the illegal aliens and dead people voted for Obama. They could do this because Voter ID laws were not in place in most states, especially swing states. Knowing that, it just makes good sense that any well informed Republican wouldn't support a path to citizenship for illegals. If a PTC were to be put into place, Democrats could win the next election and they wouldn't even have to cheat.

Re: “Lackluster Lawmaking

As long as people keep looking to governments to license their natural rights, they will lose them all. Therefore, it follows that governments are the biggest threats to our civil rights rather than their existing to protect them as was their original purpose; ignore the legislatures and their lackeys and destroy them if they act to oppress you. Anything less is complicity in and capitulation to their tyranny.

Re: “Lackluster Lawmaking

What they are doing is against the voters of Arizona, does that not count?

Re: “Guest Commentary

chucki, let me 'splain something to you. The sequester is more like 8%. And yes, half from defense - 8% from defense, 8% from non-defense (with a few areas protected). Get it, now? I didn't think so.

But, there is good reason for ANYONE to not be on welfare these days - the cuts are only going to get worse. The only way to know you have a future is to be dependent on yourself. And that means yourself has to provide for you. What I read in the mayor's commentary is, "We have to get rid of the Pork. But not MY Pork!"

Re: “Guest Commentary

We have more than our fair share of hacks and phonies because Tucson and Pima County are easy blue marks. The mayor is on the right track if he continues to make an effort to reclaim the tax money.

Ironically, the additional money will only go further toward retaining the hacks.

Perhaps the UofA will become a ''teaching university". One where the cost benefit analysis of their tuition models out based on an appropriate return for the investment. "Free market statistics" like they say they have to use when showering sport coaches with money.

Re: “Mailbag

As a runner I have been bitten on numerous occasions by "sweet dogs". I carried mace for years and have used it on both the dog and owner. This has happened in Mich, Cali, AZ, NY, NM and OH. Each and every incident ended with police responding because the dog walker thought I was at fault, and each and every time the police sided with me and twice issued citations to the dog owner. People who do not follow the rules of common decency with their dogs don't deserve them.

Re: “Lackluster Lawmaking

Funny thing is mj is still illegal under federal law. It really doesn't matter what the voters want until they can find a way to legalize mj at the federal level, then the states can't do anything about it.
