All lives matter , not just black . When a white person gets shot by a black cop , no one days a word ! So what does this tell you ?
Enough said .
Nonsense about "republican-leaning." These are the same geniuses who never saw Bernie or Trump on the horizon. What evidence do they have for leaning? It's all based on OUT OF STATE money, which fuels BOTH Sally McSilly and Dr. Ketchup. But we are going to fool all of you geniuses . . . once again
Hakeson (H. Akeson?) : The Tucson Weekly's policy is to permit anonymous comments and Safier has written on more than one occasion that it is his intention to respect commenters' anonymity. Some of the most well-informed and valid commentary in these streams during the past three years has come from people who choose to remain anonymous, and in some cases, what is said in anonymous comments seems to indicate that this may be because the authors of the comments have direct connections with the institutions discussed (employees, or, in the case of a school district, parents with children enrolled in the district's schools).
If you have never been in the position of someone with a stake in an institution who does not have the freedom to comment under your own name because you fear retaliation, be grateful that you've never been in what, for those who experience this, is a difficult and uncomfortable situation.
I read these comment streams regularly and I do not want people in this situation to be denied the ability to provide their perspectives in Tucson Weekly comment streams. If you don't like anonymous commentary, you can always choose not to read comments that do not have names attached to them. You should not, in my opinion, be advocating that other readers be denied the ability to access information provided by anonymous commenters because you do not happen to like this form of commentary.
Ratt is back! In full effect!
Gone for days, but no one gave a shit!
Except for me, in a sense.
Because I love reading ignorance!
You have gotten she and the City Council ran Rio Nuevo prior to the legislature taking it away in 2010, what a wonderful job that was!
Home grown death. Nice!
What does Romero know about running a business?
Obama has been the "Big Divider," instead of bringing people closer. His constant racial bias before knowing all the facts as made him like Sharpton and Jackson.
❤❤❤❤ Adiba you are blessed with such talent! I love your article.
"...continuing to neglect the importance of this movement and deflecting it with such ridiculous terms as All Lives Matter."
Really?! ALL lives matter is a deflecting and a ridiculous term? I say NOT!
ALL lives do matter. Just because injustices against those of different races have been largely ignored by the media doesn't mean they are not happening. The media will pick and choose what they feel gets more attention, with Tucson Weekly most definitely included. If someone thinks that there aren't as many interesting stories including white (although these are usually poor white people in these circumstances) and brown people, then they aren't thinking. I'm sure there are plenty of other colors, races and creeds where these injustices happen which I myself am ignorant to.
Calling for peace calm and patience is outrage in your world David? Pitiful.
I think the time has come for real names, full disclosure of interests are a requirement for publication. You have all the right in the world to your opinions and acceptance in the public debates but let us end the hiding behind unsigned views.
Say it and sign it, or shut up!
George Soros hates America. Look at his actions.
Hey, take a wild guess on who funded BLM to the tune of 33 million bucks. Yep, Mr. George Soros
again. The same guy who used his checkbook to create "Occupy" which was another Democrat party front group. These organizations are in no way "organic" movements. Maybe Soros is your true "architect of hate". Any bitches about his " dark money " out there? Nope, I can only hear crickets.
Amazing how the Tea Party was blamed for all kinds of shit, often for things they were in no way responsible for, but the true haters on the left get a free pass once again.
"Party" should be such a bogus, irrelevant term these days. Both parties created the mess they are in.
Even though Bernie just endorsed someone who is the antithesis of all he and his supporters profess to be and believe in, the Democratic Party is in not much better shape than the Republican Party. With the extreme disgust of Hillary, and the unknown quantity and loose cannon who is Trump, I see Jill Stein of the Green Party, and Gary Johnson of the Libertarian Party throwing this whole election into disarray, and in the best of worlds, keeping neither major candidate from getting 270 electoral votes, and throwing it into the House of Representatives.
Spreading the myth that police officers are targeting or hunting young black men is both dangerous and inappropriate. I don't understand what your motives are because this myth only serves to perpetuate the conditions of poverty and crime within black communities by not addressing them head on, by pretending that they are not related. The myth of police hunting black men is as racist a trope as there ever was and only continues the subjugation of black men and women by avoiding the real issues within the community.
You fix the police today and there will still be 15-20 black men murdered by other black men tomorrow. What does it really change?
Within one week we have had a Facebook live stream of a man dying after being shot by a police officer, then, a racially motivated attack on white police officers, and finally, a group of young black men being shot while in their car (30+ round fired at them). I think these videos are all related.
Young black men face far more of a threat from other young black men then they ever will from the police. There will be about 30-40 black men killed by police this year whereas there will be about 4000+ black men murdered by other black men this year. That's right, in the last 2 days there were as many young black men killed by other young black men as shot by police in the previous year. 82% of all black men dying from a gun wound is a homicide.
There is racial/bigoted violence directed at police officers every day in some of these communities. Federal statistics show that police are far more likely to be shot by a black man than to shoot a black man. Black cops are more likely to shoot a black man than a white cop is. These police officers are targeted for their lives every single day that they put on their uniform. It might be their last.
Officers are faced with split second decisions on a daily basis and when they make a mistake people can die. Some police officers are clearly abusing their power and committing crimes. We have to develop mechanisms to sort out the accidents from the abuses without the general public condemning both. We have to increase funding and training so that police officers are less stressed and have better skills and training to fall back on in stressful situations.
Fixing the problems within a few isolated departments will require increased funding and directional support, but it should be pretty easy.
Fixing disparate and diverse communities rife with poverty, broken families, crime and dysfunctional social mechanisms will be much more difficult and until these communities get the support they need from the rest of us, nothing is going to change. Thousands of black men are going to continue to needlessly die.
sgsmith - hate to break your heart, but Barack Hussein Obama was not the first black president. Did you forget he's half white as all liberals do?
And besides, Bill Clinton already took the mantle of first black president.
So if no one sees the problem here I'll make a quick observation for you, first as a retired Veteran, we only had green, while society aligns themselves by race because they want segregation, not sure why but they do. My black friends do not all themselves African American, yet I have a few good friends that actually are, they joined the Army to gain citizenship, and trust me, the black people in America calling themselves African American that were borne here, you are not liked by most Africans, nor would you make it there because they are a hard working caring people. that said, we will never be a united people until we remove all the tags people have given themselves to gain some sort of special treatment, if you are here, and you claim this to be your country, you are American. Now for racial profiling everyone talks about like its a bad thing, its an important tool in survival and security, if I'm at an airport, I want the middle eastern man scrutinized, not the 87 year old woman in the walker, and right now today, I want the BLM and Black Panthers taken down as domestic terrorist organizations, which they are. And yeas, when a black organization preaches hate towards white, they have indeed proliferated racial profiling against the black communities, as I said, I have friends of color, and the BLM and black panthers have made their lives hell also because they are scrutinized more because of these two groups actions and threats against innocent Americans. So if you want to call yourself African American and you were borne here, you irrigate yourself and that's fine, but if you want to be treated without being profiled, get rid of the hate organizations, they are not good for anyone. I applaud the interactions between the community and the Police, I think its necessary, however, one protest that gets outta control, and I believe that all bets are off the table, so the African American communities should be aware of who is in their neighborhoods and kick out/call the police about anyone preaching hate and talking about rallies because it affects the entire community.
Nothing about the rush to judgment of the two people mentioned that were shot? When we find out the truth and that the shootings were justified will the race baiters, the "hate whitey" crowd stand to be counted as what they are, haters?
