Re: “Dark-Hearted Heart

I was at the first show ( New Years Eve ) Didn't catch the others. No one loves songs like Purple Haze, Hey Joe etc. more than I do. However, someone with Jimi's talent needs to move on. I don't recall hearing any negative comments. My only concern was that was the first show that had Billy Cox on bass instead of Noel Redding. That concern lasted all of 2 seconds as Cox was masterful. All in all, one of the best shows I've ever been to. With Jimi playing how could it not. And it was yours truly who said that if God ever wanted to learn guitar, he'd go to Jimi. This knowing full well that he could be as good as the teacher.
I was too interested in looking down the front of her dress to notice her elbow !!

Re: “Phoenix Union High School District Makes a Statement

What will Phoenix Union graduates, and other high school graduates, face in their lives after high school?

In a country where the cost of higher education used to be affordable, 300% less 30 years ago than what it is now, costs of college degrees and professional degrees are now sky-high and our children are being asked to mortgage their futures to an extortionate banking system in order to get the degrees that will qualify them to work 60-70-hour a week for forty years or more in professional occupations, where many of them will spend the first 30 years of their careers paying down tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars of undismissable student loan debt.

There's a lot of analysis and reporting that needs to be done in the current context, for those who care about getting American legal, economic, and educational systems better aligned with what is JUST. And it's getting to the point where it's not just about what's "just" -- it's about what is functional and sustainable. Sectors that are now barely functional, given the strain they're under, are beginning to break down.

Bitching about Trump's tweets and attending "we're all in this together" safety pin rallies won't get the work that needs to be done, done. Nor will getting lost in Panglossian myths of American exceptionalism get it done.

Even more depressing than where we are as a nation is what people on both sides of the aisle are choosing to say about where we are. The BS we have to listen to in the 24/7 R and D affiliated media circuses bears very little relation to the dangers we actually face.

Re: “Dark-Hearted Heart

Crazy W:

Like I enjoy all Hendrix. On every level. I enjoy the heavy stuff, the bluesy stuff, the psychedelic stuff, the soulful stuff (which I feel is most represented on this performance) and everything in between. Music would not be what it is today if Jimi didn't exist. As you already know, he was a genius beyond geniuses. I believe it was you who mentioned "If God needed guitar lessons...", correct?

All of these songs have been released before in various forms, but this release is the first official release of the complete 1st show on CD (yes, the version I bought) or LP (I realise they are supposed to be superior, but I haven't owned a record player in years) and the sound is much cleaner than all the bootleg recordings I own of this show. All of the tracks here but 3 (out of 11) have never been on official releases before now.

I've read that some people at this show (I'm only referencing the first performance, not the other 3) in particular were disappointed because they were expecting a "greatest hits" style performance, which they didn't get. (I know that you are aware.) No Foxey Lady, Purple Haze, Watchtower, Fire, et cetera. No playing the guitar with teeth or setting it on fire. I just hope that those same people came around and realised that the performance they were witnessing was historic and hopefully they grew to appreciate what they saw.

Just curious: I understand that you were at the 1st show, but did you actually get to see any or all of the other 3 performances? If so, bonus times the amount of other shows you attended.

Also, I just noticed this photo is in need of some serious cropping. There's exposed arse-crack just above her right elbow.

Eww!

Right on, Sherilyn! I love your reviews. It is delightful and satisfying to read thoughtful, articulate and insightful criticism. So rare these days.

Tommy. You don't like the system, write your congressman. Never mind. If it don't pertain to Mexico Raul the Fool ain't interested.
1960. The Yankees out score the Pirates 55-26. The Pirates won the series 4 games to 3. Why? Because in the world series first team to win 4 games wins.

Re: “Danehy

Tom, ignorance is an excuse we cognoscenti often allow you, but smearing Breitbart et al borders on blasphemy of the lowest kind. Breitbart was Jewish, you know, and you risk charges of Anti-Semitism from the easily offended. My percentages, numbers and even assumptions about Philadelphia in 2008 and 2012 are well-documented, but hastily excused as mistakes and double-counting by the Enquirer in Philly. There is even a well documented prosecution of the Black Panther poll-thugs. Why did you avoid mentioning the successful but fruitless suit against Pima County's billion-dollar fraud called RTA where Election officials admitted using software that "flipped" dozens of Precincts and stole thousands of votes that were opposed to the massive Transportation Authority boondoggle? When you prate about documented vote-fraud in the 2016 election you obviously are unaware that these things take time. Are you ashamed of yourself, or just teasing the pitch-fork hoi polloi?

Me too 13.

I've always thought of Amy Adams as the cute, shy, girl next door type.

But that photo above makes think of her as the sultry, seductress, vixen type.

Tom, quit feeding the trolls!

Those savage beasts may rise above your wrist while you're doing so and remove your hand!

At the very least, Bill Heuisler may threaten you by mentioning that "you better hope that the two of you don't meet in public".

Ask Ron Barber about that threat.

They're okay with that.

They still feel it's a better deal than having a Kenyan Muslim running things.

It's better to get fucked over by their own kind than be tolerant with someone that has darker skin.

That's what it's been about since the first day Obama served office. And they sure weren't gonna let it continue with a bleeder in charge. You know, they...meaning the +2 million less of us and the electoral college.

They are so blinded by hate that they just can't see things for what they are. The bigger of 2 evils won, meaning everyone else will lose. Good job 'Murica!

Re: “Phoenix Union High School District Makes a Statement

Our Founding Fathers understood the fundamental importance of Public Education in our Democracy; teaching Citizens to Understand and Respect the Diversity in our Democracy; that the very nature of our Democracy creates a Complementary/Interactive, Mutual Dependent Social System with the Requirement to provide Assistance to others when Assistance is Necessary.

The Liberal /Progressive interpretation of our Constitution, in my view, does NOT represent any threat to our Democracy. The real threat, as it always has been, is represented by Ultra Conservatives; those who would ignore the First Amendment of our Constitution; using their "Holy Book" and Money, to impose their Religious/Political views on others.

Our Democracy, as is any Democracy, inherently contentious in the competition of Political Ideologies; initially with the Federalists vs. Anti-Federalists; now with, in the main, Democrats vs. Republicans. We have developed, sadly and dangerously, into a "Democracy" that is controlled by powerful Financial Interests Groups that are using their money to "buy" "Politicians" and, as a result, control the electoral process.

The American Voter need to wake up and participate in the electoral process, at all levels of Government; using their notion of what is in the best interests of all US Citizens and their Understanding of our Constitutionally Protected Liberties. We will lose the latter if we do not.

The question is: as a car driving toward a precipice; are we at the fulcrum or have we moved beyond?

Democracy while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide. President John Adams

Re: “Danehy

As of December 1st, there have been exactly FOUR documented cases of voter fraud in this year's election. FOUR. In the entire country. One Iowa woman tried to vote for Donald Trump twice. Some guy in Texas (falsely) claimed that he was working security for the Trump campaign by trying to prove that he could vote more than once. A woman tried to use an absentee ballot to cast a vote in the name of her dead husband and a Florida woman who was actually counting absentee ballots was adding votes for a mayoral candidate of her choice. (There is no evidence that she did anything to the Presidential vote, one way or the other.) Obviously, Bill H. and others have been getting fake news from crap websites like WND. I don't get it. Your guy is going to be President. He and his people worked the system to perfection. But there is absolutely no doubt that Hillary Clinton will end up with nearly three million more votes than Donald Trump. She will NOT have a majority, but rather a plurality of roughly 48% to 46%. Those are facts, not Breitbart B.S. Why is it so hard to be a gracious winner?

Re: “.Nomads of a Desert City.

I knew Byrdy in Albuquerque NM back in 1998-99 when Donna Rowe was running Youth In Transition. I am currently homeless and much older than Byrdy. I wish her the best and hope she finds her way. I am currently in 12 step recovery, got Two Bachelor degrees in Criminal Justice and Sociology [to work with YIT before Donna Rowe ("Momma Donna") passed away]. To Byrdy, I would say, remember the good, forgive the bad, and pass on the love Donna gave us all...that is the path laid out before persons like us.
