Re: “Reading Diane Douglas' "State of Education" Tea Leaves

There is a disconnect between K-12 education and real life. So good to hear from someone other than tax payor paid employees.

We guarantee the authentic taste of our pretzels. We're proud to say that friends and family are having them shipped back east! Yep, they're that good!

I would rather we enjoy sharing a wide variety of opinions. I feel secure in my beliefs. You should to.

Re: “S. Carey to Play a Tucson Living Room Next Month

Tucson is now sold out, per the Undertow site. Thanks a lot for telling the whole world, Heather. Now you have to take me in your book bag.

Re: “Education Bills in the Lege (Which May or May Not See the Light of Day)

A comment to me on another forum is that political topics are often a bit rough & tumble but then that's how it is with politics.....and religion. The thread only gets hijacked when others choose to participate and it looks like the rest of us manage to have a bit more restraint. No matter, this was a good topic and I appreciate the chance to have a consolidated view of some very important issues.

Re: “Education Bills in the Lege (Which May or May Not See the Light of Day)

Harold, I've never gotten on you or anyone else for being too acerbic. I'm just saying, stay on topic. I have the luxury of writing on any topic I damn well please because, hey, they're my posts. But commenters really should stick to the topic at hand so the comments section isn't hijacked. If Rat T wants to write about Obama, fine. He needs to find a place to write his own posts, then he can go to town on the Prez all he wants. And if I decide to comment, my comments should relate to his Obama bashing.

Re: “Vets Removed from Arizona's "Budget Balanced on the Backs of" List

Michael Ellegood; thank you so much for your generosity on behalf of our wounded warriors. I cannot answer why the money was there but I suspect there is a good reason which could have been found out instead of posting an incomplete and obviously inflammatory story right here.
All that being said I would very strongly encourage you to look into the amount of the money you donate that is actually put to use. An alternative closer to home is at the VA where they have desperate and continuing need for books, socks and other things your money can buy that you can be sure will go directly to the vet. I have picked up a couple wheel chairs, a bumper mounted motorized wheel chair lift locally all for less than $100 through local auctions & estate sales purely for the use of veterans.
Thank you so much for commenting here and for your tremendous generosity. We are all thankful.

Re: “Danehy

Giving away our ages, Tom. How about the bumper stickers " Dick Nixon. before he dicks you" Or when he ran for a second term " don't change Dicks in the middle of a screw, vote for Nixon in 72. Ah, the 60's. See , I wasn't always a right winger. Just smartened up!!

Re: “Fight for GMO Labeling Makes a Comeback in the AZ Legislature

Maria,

Another bad, very bad idea. Our politicians take on enough stupid stuff as it is. The only hearing one this should get is a hearty "good by" and the only pipeline it should move through is the sewer line.

Re: “Danehy

Pancho Villa is an icon of the Mexican Revolution. Yes, he definitely was a man of his times and a man of contradictions. While I do not condone the killing of innocent people of Columbus, NM, I strongly support our statue and Pancho's struggle for the poor of Mexico, and for Mexico's national sovereignty. One must also look at the role of President Wilson (who provided and withheld arms) during the Mexican Revolution and how it resulted in the deaths of many Mexicans. Any comprehensive study of all that Doroteo Arango did and fought for would logically result in support of and for, our statue. George Washington was a slave-owner general. Thomas Jefferson also owned slaves. If anyone thinks slavery was "cool," please watch the film "12 years as a Slave." Should we go to Washington D.C. and tear down monuments to George and Thomas?

Are the teachers "teaching the content wrong" or are they "teaching the wrong content?"

Re: “The BBC has Popped Up in the Desert

It's a shame they spent the first two minutes talking to Tombstone cowboys with fake Texas accents. And then they talked to some real "Arizonians." Props for using Calexico as background music, though.
