Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

Look, they got caught. Sooner or later all of our dirty deeds catch up with us. Either now or later, we'll all have to give an account for them. Yeah, they are stupid. Yeah, they screwed up. We all do at one time or another. The only difference here is they got caught this time. Hopefully they will learn their lesson and try to make the right decisions going forward. Maybe this will be their wake up call to change their lifestyle. Hopefully.

Do not forget that politicians are flooding the US with immigrants from other countries, just exactly as the EU is doing to Europe.

Re: “Winners and Losers in the Classrooms First Initiative Council Proposals

The existing monies only go so far. In the long term, public schools are important to our democracy and freedom --people share the same educational background. We should support them and then figure out the charters. In taxpayer terms, the benefits of public schools exceed the temporary existence of charters since the infrastructure is owned by the taxpayers. By its nature, education is labor intensive and you can't always see learning happen by the calendar, so trying to quantify the expenses per student rather than by age, special needs and year of development doesn't fit.

When it comes to choice they would rather kill kids than educate them. Real progressive.

Truth is public schools are losing their stranglehold on money. It makes them say and do crazy things.

Re: “"Raise Taxes on Corporations and the Wealthy." Hillary said It. Arizona Democrats, You Can Say It Too.

This woman is a liar, a fool and an idiot. Tax increases on corporations caused many of us to watch our jobs leave the country. Regulations destroyed many more. Americans pay the highest corporate tax rates in the world.

First why don't we talk about how much our health insurance costs went down. How many times will you allow these people to lie to you?

Liars lie. It's what they do.

Re: “"Raise Taxes on Corporations and the Wealthy." Hillary said It. Arizona Democrats, You Can Say It Too.

In 1980, the top 1% of all taxpayers had an Adjusted Gross Income of $80,000 and paid $47 billion in taxes. Adjusting that for inflation, taxpayers making more than $240,000 in AGI in 2007 paid $500 billion in taxes. It was exactly as predicted by supply side theory predicted. $500 billion isn't a trickle, it isn't a gusher, it is a Tsunami. And, they paid that $500 billion at a much lower tax rate, again exactly as supply side theory predicted. Picketty is a complete fraud. Picketty's France did not create a single hour of work from 1980 to 2007 while the United States moved from 94 million jobs to 138 million.

Well Frances, you don't get to say things that are not true without a response. In the 2015 National Assessment of Education progress, Arizona African Americans finished first in the nation in 8th grade math, Hispanics finished 11th and our white students finished 6th. My point is that school choice works.

Re: Unfair treatment by small people i.e. Enabling "friend"

This isn't a "genuine" "honest" mistake and the fact that you believe it is shows that you are just as much of an immoral idiot as they are. A true friend would call them on their bs, you can support loved ones without condoning the behavior. You are NOT a good friend. They seem to be surrounded by enablers and excusers, much to their detriment. They could have killed their child! They exposed her multiple times and she ended up hospitalized. Poor choices yes, honest mistake? No.

They do not deserve leniency, if anything they should be held to a higher standard than your average citizen. The public entrusts them to report the news with integrity, honesty and morality. This career requires that the people within it display these characteristics otherwise the news they report loses credibility. They have shown poor judgement, that they are liars without an ounce of integrity and child abusers to boot! They are finished in broadcast, done. A career over due to their selfish, immoral, irresponsible and dangerous decisions.

Most people wouldn't call throwing away your career, livelihood, reputation and almost killing your child "smart". They are fallible like us all so kick the god complex, better than your average person bs. They are not special in the least.
They deserve every ounce of judgement, condemnation and embarrassmegnt they get. I seriously hope the legal system holds them accountable.

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

Calling it a disease does not eliminate the fact that, just like everything else in life, it starts out as a choice. Except for the four month old they have addicted to it. Everyone else makes choices.

Let's have a look at the definition:

A disease is a particular abnormal condition, a disorder of a structure or function, that affects part or all of an organism. The causal study of disease is called pathology. Disease is often construed as a medical condition associated with specific symptoms and signs.
Choosing to snort cocaine into your nasal passages is nothing more than a bad choice. But when you take additional actions you put others at risk. That too is a choice, and you should be held responsible for all that happens because of it.

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

First off, there would be no dealers if there were no "d bag" users, but drug addiction is a disease. This is worse than simple possession, though. Their baby overdosed on coke at four months! That's way too much cocaine in her breast milk to be caused by one line or casual use. And what "horrible portrayals" in the media have there been? I've only seen the simple facts. They did coke. Baby overdosed. Now they can't see baby. What's being portrayed incorrectly? If by "unfair" portrayal they mean "the media found out" then yes, it's unfair. It's unfair how the media did it's job because now the spot light is on You.

Local celebrities?? Laughable. Disgusting that someone defends them - being a friend of theirs or not. Thinking about yourself and not your baby when at the hospital is egregious enough. The mother should not get any time with the baby without having a drug test performed first. Period. I'm shocked she has any access to her child whatsoever. It's also disgusting that the father watched his wife do Coke since the birth and did NOTHING to stop her? What a vile human.

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

As a mother of 3 i would never do such drugs or allow ppl around my children who are high on those drugs. Its clear these people are unfit. You have all these people partying around your baby doing lines of coke and drinking. Its disgusting and I had my first child at 17. When you choose to make that baby you are choosing to protect and care for them as well. If you dont want to stop partying or cut back then dont have kids. And whats worse they wouldnt even let doctors do their job to help the baby so they were smart enough to realize what they were doing was not right and harmful to their baby. Lock them up seriously. If you would deny proper treatment to save your babies life to protect your own behind you have no clue the kind of real sacrifice and responsibility it tskes to be a decent parent.

Re: “Winners and Losers in the Classrooms First Initiative Council Proposals

Jo and sg are correct. This group was to give political cover to pre-determined outcomes. Goldwater and the Graham-Keagan crowd were running this train. "Backpacking" has been promoted for years, this will give them more cover. How about any for profits cannot get public money. How about capping charter school numbers, and even reducing them? How about capital funds never delivered? How about abolishing all education tax credits? Yes this would include those given to public schools, as this was just another ploy to give the illusion of proper public school funding. Charter schools knew the deal when they got into the game, but then to whine about just not getting enough money is hypocritical. Someone has to subsidize Ducey and Duval's private school tuition. I know one family in Phoenix with elementary kids in BASIS and three kids in Brophy and Xavier complaining about how much it costs. Tragic. From a two physician family. A true model of the whole issue.

Re: To all those who replied.

It is shocking that you believe they deserve "leniency because of the statis in our society". "Smarter, bigger, bolder, he is a reporter... Just a job. Not a doctor that saves lives everyday. Not a solider that risks their lives to save ours. Not a teacher that educates our children. Not a child welfare worker that protects the interest of children. Bigger well maybe if you are looking at arrogence. Bolder yes, you are right, arrogence again.. Now for smarter, I think most people think they are least smart people at this point. They should not be treated any different than anyone else in this situation. If the norm is jail time well then jail time it should be...
You say cocaine does not belong in the wrong hands-well let see "wrong hands" how about nobody's hands it is illegal. It seems to many excuses are being made for adults who CLEARLY know better. There comes a time when you need to grow up and take responsibility for you actions. Adults can make their own decisions BUT when you harm a child action has to be taken. It is very selfish to not put an infants needs ahead of your own.
In a nutshell they consumed illegal drugs, passed them to an infant and need to face the consequences the same as anyone else would. They DO NOT deserve special treatment.

Re: “Winners and Losers in the Classrooms First Initiative Council Proposals

And I think it is important to understand that charter schools being the big winners means corporations are the big winners.
In the beginning of the charter school movement in Arizona a few caring people could put together a charter school for the purpose of rescuing kids who had been discarded and given up on by public district schools. Now the rules have changed and a whole lot of money is now required to start a charter school; a rule change making charters corporate entities, some whose stock is traded on Wall Street.
Charter schools should no longer be seen as public schools, because they are not. Therefore charter schools should not receive public money.

Re: “Ed Superintendent Douglas Talking in Tucson Tuesday, Wednesday

The fact is Douglas is a basically a non-entity when it comes to education policy in Arizona. Goldwater/ALEC, run the Governor's office and the legislative majority, and they make education policy, generate lawsuits, and ignore her. She will say a few reasonable things, and focus, as usual, on how we killed common core, by rearranging a few chairs on the deck of the Titanic (most remain the same) , renaming it and voila, OUR standards. What Arizona really needs is to ABOLISH all those tax credits, which drain funds away from public schools, and cap and actually reduce the number of charter schools, and make them accountable. The legislature is hot on accountability for public schools, but not charters or private schools receiving public money. The legislature and the Gov., are hot on regulatory reform (which really means giving away the farm) except for public schools. Douglas is ignored in all this policy making. If she accidentally says something useful, the rest of the State doesn't care.

Re: “Attorney General Brnovich Hopes Supreme Court's Tie in Immigration Lawsuit Will Help In-State Tuition Fight Against DREAMers

While I sympathize, there should be no compromise on illegal immigration until real enforcement is passed and legal immigration is also reduced. Once that is done, DREAMers should be given permanent work permits and eventually citizenship. Until then, no rights other than the right to swift and humane deportation should be given to any illegal alien.
Remember each dollar of subsidized in-state tuition used to educate illegal aliens takes one dollar away from the available money to educate our children.
