You'd be sad too, if every day you looked in the mirror and saw what " Pulitzer Tommy" sees. A loser wanna-be journalist who's sole lot in life is writing a moronic column for a two bit paper that sucks so bad they have to give it away. To make matters worse if it wasn't for his business woman wife who has a real job he'd be sleeping under the freeway. It must really suck knowing that your wife brings home the bacon and your only contribution is stuffing your face with it.
Insulting and bullying high school kids, real classy! What are you 2? Sorry, didn't mean to insult 2 years olds, they have more manners. Well, at least you showed us who you are, which leads me to the conculsion...Eewww!
What an intolerant jerk.
Sad Tom...real sad.
Danehy's failure to eulogize Dave Sitton, a Tucsonan revered by nearly everyone in Tucson irrespective of political philosophies or party affiliation, without invoking politics is an embarrassment to writers and readers alike. His cheap shot at the Sabino High School Young Republicans is especially petty and uncalled for. Gee whiz, here I thought the left was supposed to be the party of love, inclusion, acceptance, tolerance, blah, blah, blah. Tom Danehy is a very sad and unhappy man.
Lori O hit the nail right on the head. Tommy " Pulitzer Tom" Danehy can't even eulogize a friend without taking cheap shots at Republicans, the Tea Party and the Right in general. The sad part is that in his feeble mind we're the haters. How sad. Let the dislikes begin !!
Tom, that was a beautiful, accurate and inspiring piece about our friend for the entire 34 or so years we have lived in Tucson. One word that fits Dave so well is 'empathy.' No matter what problem you mentioned, or what joy you shared, he was with you completely and you knew it. Miss him.
Again Tom, being the typical liberal you are, you can't just eulogize Dave Sitton you have to pepper it with insults of the Sabino Teenage Republicans, the ONLY TEENAGE group in Southern AZ to be actively involved in the future of our COUNTY and CITY.
Stop being a BULLY Tom, and just say the kind words that Dave Sitton deserves.
Although I am a Left-of-left capitol "L" Liberal, I helped a friend of mine host Dave for a political fundraiser at his house. What a nice, open-minded guy. Warm.
Seeing and talking with him, and my open-minded Republican friend, gave me hope for our political process. Too bad his party couldn't support him. They'd rather support a tall, white, blank sheet of paper than someone who used their heart & head.
I had a lukewarm feeling for Jeff Smith. As a biker of many years I just couldn't understand how he could be so irresponsible to nearly kill himself by taking too many chances.
His articles were sometimes entertaining and usually interesting but i wouldn't compare him to Woodward and Bernstein.
Tom takes a lot of flack but then it's usually the right wing that is taking pot-shots at him so I know he is doing a good job by ticking them off.
Just don't disprove Tom on an issue you don't agree on. I did that and he just stopped answering my e-mails. This after 2 years of corresponding. He never even had the decency to tell me why he cut me off. I guess he got pissed that he lost, took his ball and went home. I'd say the man's a dickhead, but I'm trying to be civil. Besides, I already did.
I never met Jeff Smith. He was a powerful writer whose work, in my opinion, became increasingly angry and confrontational as the years passed. Maybe that's what living with constant pain does to you. I have met Tom Danehy. I got to know him through City League Basketball. He was a fun and funny guy who played some mean hoops back then. Slow, but not with his assists and he had a nice, soft shot. I think Tom's piece on Jeff says a lot about both of them--two very different and very important Tucson voices. Voices to be appreciated, whether you agree with them or not. Two cents, please.
Now, now girls, don't squabble.
We all liked Uncle Jeff's writing, it didn't matter if we liked him or not, or if we ever met him. It was enough to see his byline and know we were in for some entertaining writing. Writers are known by their words, not by their personalities. We don't want them for friends anyway, we want them to entertain us with their writing talent. Jeff had plenty of that.
Now we won't ever see his byline again. This is the news here, not whether we liked his difficult personality. He didn't want to be Miss Mary Sunshine, he wanted to say and write what he thought. How many people do you know who dare do that?
It's always about Tom. Who else in their right mind is going to say anything positive about this loser but himself. In his column he admits that Jeff Smith made no bones about dissing him. Smith was a real journalist who saw Good Ol' Tom for the wanna- be dickhead that he is.
And the above comment is made by a guy whose icon is 'the most interesting man in the world' ... the irony is thick ...
Tom's backhanded gasconading and narcissistic ability to make everything about him, never cease to amaze me.
Mike Elliott is amazing - Oh, that voice - and so funny.
1. Don't hire sleazes.
2. Don't hire pervs.
3. Don't hire dickheads.
If we applied these rules to the Weekly, there wouldn't be any staff.
I hope smoking weed is not what robbed jammerk65's ability to spell. His comment here was meant to be amusing I hope, and he is not really semi-illiterate from weed.
