I agree, the 88 team had the best talent ever
When is this chump gonna get a job ?
Who the Hell are these comment-authors? They criticize Tom, but don't have the stones to give their names. Both Tom and Jeff were/are friends who criticized me for years, but were able to laugh about politics. Jeff Smith was a very good writer, but blinded by his Leftist prejudices and apparently unable to comprehend my manifest sagacity. Tom just doesn't understand anything distinct from, or hostile to, his beloved Nanny State. Bill Heuisler
Baseball sucks? High school football sucks! The only people who go to high school football games are the families of the players who feel they have a duty to attend their kid's 5 minutes of fame and people, like you, who are paid to go. Both types are obnoxious. The brazen self interest you show in your article should be prefaced with the fact that your paycheck comes from high school sports. If you worked for professional sports, I bet you would sing a different tune. Beating up a 16 year old at 4am is a very unprincipled thing to do. School principals cannot just talk the talk, they have to walk the walk. No exceptions for their skank daughters and their low life boyfriends.
As far as tradition and Friday high school football goes, Bisbee and Douglas played Thursday Thanksgiving "Turkey Bowl" games and Armistice Day games (after the Great War ended in 1918) on November 11 for decades. Didn't hurt anyone.
Tom, I think the Time magazine article about paying college athletes is worth your astute opinions. Relevant to the high school situation, the argument Time gives would, for example, lead naturally to payment to the high school players in the football oriented high schools in Texas that probably pull in more dollars (counted as Time does) than many fairly large colleges. It's a dilemma, of course, particularly when college stars may get hurt to prevent their getting the pro bucks.
I wholeheartedly agree with Tom, leave the Friday night lights tradition alone, PS: I hope Brad Paisley isn't too emotionally damaged.
Hey, bslap -
"Excuse me, is my daughter in there?" You're kidding on this one.
You know, life isn't like the movies.
This story is obviously an iceberg, and what was reported was only the tip.
Wow a Danehy I enjoyed, or at least did not get angry with.
Bslap... If it was MY daughter in the car, I'd have been opening HER door, not the driver's. I'd then remove her from the vehicle, place her in the house and finally call 9-1-1. Next week, after the TPD request for details was mailed out...
Uh, better question is "what was the dad thinking"? You don't walk up to some one's car door and yank it open. No matter how much you want to, that's bordering on assault and asking for trouble. Life isn't like the movies. If he though his daughter was being assaulted, call 911 then do whatever it takes to stop it, but otherwise you walk up and say "excuse me is my daughter in there?". Then have a long talk with the step-daughter, don't assault her boyfriend. Heck, that's practically inviting her to elope with him.
No wonder his step-daughter is misbehaving - look at the example.
Yes there were less people at the NAU Game but after all it WAS the NAU Game. Its late in the Summer and Tucson is not full yet. The smart money is still out of town. There will be more at this week's game and it will be full for the start of the real season. But Zona Zoo was filled and they stayed for the whole game! And I don't think it was for the cash givaways!
If I was the Sahuaro Principle I would have beat down that punk too. If he thought he saw a gun he was within his rights to snap the head off that punk. Typical Tucson...Of course his parents would say...Poor Johnny wasn't involved in that stuff. Bulls**t.
Yeah! You hit on a couple of important notes here, Tom.
When I was in high school, if my girl friend's father caught us parked in a car at 4 a.m. in the morning, I would expect to get my ass kicked. I hope TUSD does the right thing and forgives Bonn. Now mind you, I don't condone Bonn's actions. I understand them, though.
And while we're talking about TUSD, thanks for that story about the charter school screw up. I read the AZ Daily Star every day (you know the saying, Tom, the Irish will put up with a bad situation forever) and I don't remember hearing about this.
You can bet that if that had happened in TUSD, the AZ Star would have put it on the front page.
Thomasito, when you are quite finished boosting your middle aged Corporate touristas over there at the Hotel Congress Bar, with your cynical "NPR Mom" anti bullying improvisations, hand on the knee and whoah my bad, did-I-do-that comedy of contrition... please, please, Sugarplum, do be sure to bring back that bag of ice for the blendy blendy. My margarita has stopped making puddles on the countertop I am all out of cigs, the dog needs walking (deperately) and I cannot seem to find my sunglasses, anywhere, and outside ... hmmm outside the Monsoon looks, ... well it almost looks ... over ~ guess its time to switch back to beer. Nix the ice after all, just grab us a six and come home.
I wish they would do a cover story that starts: "Shame on the Tucson City Council for caving in to the whiners, over and over again." n7iqv's comment "If the tower messes the view of the mountains, get up and walk a few feet. The mountains will still be there, AND you might get better reception, to boot." was spot on. How many of those whiners complain about the very thing that the improvement will fix and then end of being consumers of what they were whining about? Hypocrites! I am so sick of the NIMBYs who are squarely responsible for making our community take a ton of steps backward because these council persons cave-in time and time again.
Now, wait a minute, Tom....doesn't all this weeping and nashing of YOUR teeth really come down to Democracy really working well here in Tucson? All the factions of government listening to the people? Reacting to their needs? After all, Tom, this is America not North Korea, where things are done a lot differently (and a lot more ruthlessly - aka Un's old girlfrind.)
PS, was she really fooling around with the WHOLE orchestra?)
She had it coming to her.
Gives me something to do. Don't like my commentys, don't read "em. Truth is, me and Tom used to get along rather well, despite not agreeing on very much. Go back about 2 months to his arcives ( spelling ?) Some guy dragged Tom's weight into the debate and I let him have it. Some time ago Tom said he was waiting for one example of an armed person using a gun to prevent a rape. I sent him a dozen verifible examples of armed citizens preventing rapes, robberies, break-ins. Instead of saying I was right, he simply stopped communicating with me. I couldn't believe it.
CW13 .... or that you tune in, week after week, to moan about it. Makes one wonder ...
