Re: “Not All is Lost with Immigration Reform, Latinos Can Still Make a Difference in November

http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/monkey-cage/wp/2015/02/27/opposition-to-immigration-reform-is-a-winning-strategy-for-republicans/

"By any measure, fears of (Illegal) immigration are driving many white Americans to the Republican Party. And, indeed, the Republican strategy on immigration appears to have been successful. Republicans now control the House and the Senate, the governor’s office in 31 states, and two-thirds of the state legislatures. They are winning the political war."

"An even bigger factor is that the ties of racial and ethnic minorities to the Democratic Party are tenuous. Research by Taeku Lee and myself shows that most Latinos and Asian Americans don’t feel like they fit into either party. In national surveys, those who refuse to answer a question about party identification, those who claim that they do not think in partisan terms, and independents make up the clear majority of both groups. All told, 56 percent of Latinos and 57 percent of Asian-American identify as nonpartisans.

Even among blacks, there are signs of ambivalence. Almost 30 percent of blacks feel
that the Democratic Party does not work hard for black interests."

http://www.philly.com/philly/opinion/20151016_As_Trump_fades__be_smart_about_immigration.html#disqus_thread

"Most Hispanics aren't single-issue voters when it comes to immigration. A recent Gallup poll found that among registered Latino voters, 67 percent are at least willing to support a candidate who doesn't share their views on immigration. And 18 percent don't consider the issue important at all.

What's more, many Hispanic citizens have little sympathy for immigrants who haven't played by the rules. Especially among Latino voters born in the United States, resentment of immigrants who have entered the country illegally can run deep. Forty-two percent of American-born Hispanics disapprove of President Obama's executive actions to prevent the deportation of illegal immigrants."

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

Anyone who's selfish enough to do drugs and put their kids in jeopardy don't deserve their kids, these babies don't ask to come into this f***** world so if one decides to have children needs to b ready to stand up like. Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

Their refusal to allow medical professionals to draw blood for the tests which are desperately needed when an infant is sick from having been poisoned is unconscionable.

The baby could have died not only from exposure to their cocaine, but more tragically prevented from being saved because they don't want anybody to know that they were using drugs.

If the child isn't more important than not getting caught using cocaine they should be charged with endangerment, and locked away from decent people for the rest of their natural lives.

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

I know them too! I would agree; what have they given to the community??? I believe the "mom" has a previous felony on her record and the "father" used cocaine WAY MORE OFTEN than every "six weeks" as he reported! If you are stellar parents you would've gotten your baby (that you tried so hard to have) treatment at the FIRST hospital NOT the THIRD!!! It's absolutely sickening!!!

Re: “Unhealthy Status

"And, even though DACAmented working youth pay taxes, they still can't get insurance through the Affordable Care Act's online marketplace and are ineligible for AHCCCS, the state's version of Medicaid."

So we'll gladly accept their tax dollars but say 'screw you' to any kind of assistance that would allow for basic medical care? It's not about liberal versus conservative...it's about basic human decency. These are young individuals who didn't make the choice to be here but are trying to make the best of their circumstances and become productive, educated members of society. The hypocrisy is maddening...they are told to earn their way just like everyone else but are never given the infrastructure to do so.

Amazing--the weekly writes a huge story about this but ignores the story about Elliott Pitts being suspended from UA for one year for some pretty serious allegations...which were reported in the Star and promptly swept away by the rest of the media.

If you get invited can you ask her when they will expand tax credits for private education? These parents are saving AZ lots of education money and are trying to pay tuition. They need to double the allowable credit.

I thought the Weekly did a pretty good job of trashing broadcast media 21 years ago. Looks like it's come back with a vengeance.

And not for nothing, it's one thing to be a mother and doing coke but you don't have the common sense NOT to breastfeed but if she was that high maybe I am answering my own question. Freaking joke.

Re: “Not All is Lost with Immigration Reform, Latinos Can Still Make a Difference in November

Latinos will definitely make a difference come Nov 8. However there is still a large number of Latinos who still believe that we are a nation of laws. Little is ever spoken of the American born and raised Hispanic who opposes Obama's immigration policies. There are Latinos who believe that America should take care of it's own, first and fore most, the U.S.citizen" Are they race traitors as the left would have us to believe? No they're not. first and foremost they are Americans.

Re: “Local Media Pros Som and Krystin Lisaius Indicted on Drug-Related Child Abuse Charges

Shades of Kathy Randall and Al Fogleman! I didn't realize cocaine at KOLD was still a thing!

The 80s were a lot of fun, but at some point one should grow up and move on to more respectable, legal avenues of debauchery, such as a good single malt.

What a couple of idiots! I enjoyed Som's reporting over the years but apparently he knew where the 8-balls were buried. I have a hard time believing his wife is only 26...she's had 4 pregnancies in the past few years; that is the MO of a 30+ woman trying to conceive before it's too late, not the behavior of a 20-something.

By the way, Kathy R passed away in 2010

Re: “Danehy

My that's rich. TD who writes a bi-weekly column for the freebie Grijalva Gazette, decides to mock the Daily Caller. Yep, we should trust real journalists like the folks at the New York Times and The Washington Post who have already jumped in the tank for the Clintons and have been exposed for their numerous lies.
You really have become a pompous ass Tom.

I AGREE, I wouldn't doubt it if they don't deal. Why do they have a scale? If they get away with just a slap on the hand, the will do it again!!
