Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

If you took the simple step of tying all your leadership pay to the people side of the business and to excellence, the district would heal and strengthen at a much faster pace.

Last time I looked at TUSD numbers, about 25% of parent rated the quality of their child's education excellent. This means that 75% of your parents are open to other choices. The same is true for your teachers- about 25% rate their school an excellent place to teach.

These two numbers are ground zero for the battle to improve academic gains and for winning back your students. Get TUSD to 60% and student losses stop. Get TUSD to 70% and you grow back to 60 thousand students.

Get focused enough and TUSD can improve at 7 percentile points a year. Public education as a whole has dropped from 36% to 24% in the last four years, about the lowest number in 47 years of measurement. The typical Arizona charter school is in the 40s.

The Chandler Unified School district is at 75% after working on this for 18 years.

Re: “Desert Angel

Whether you are for illegal immigration or not (I'm not), you have to admire the sympathy and love that Joel has for his fellow human beings. Not everyone out there suffering in the desert is a criminal in the sense that they are coming here to hurt others or take up criminal activity. I believe that immigration and citizenship should take place through legal channels, but I can understand how some are desperate for a better life. Can you really say that you like the fact that there are children and desperate parents dying in the desert? Those are the individuals that Joel is trying to help and I applaud his efforts.

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

I agree with the previous poster. It's a blog so I know it's just for fun, but without at least taking the step of converting these numbers to a percentage of school-age children within the district, the numbers are 100% meaningless and not a single conclusion can (or should) be drawn.
If I missed those numbers I apologize.

Re: “Review: Hillary’s America: the Secret History of the Democratic Party

D’Souza dived back in history??? "everyone will find one or two tidbits of information"??? That's funny stuff there. Then again there may be some actual information but good luck separating the information from the bullshit.
Hoffman, did you write this review on a bet? Are you OK? Are you being held somewhere against your will?

Re: “TUSD Enrollment, 2000 to 2016, Part 2

1) It is more meaningful to look at percentage declines. They paint a gloomier picture, though the current declines are still better than the big declines that occurred immediately after the two big rounds of school closures.
2) The data reported here do not match the numbers reported by the State Auditor General. In some cases the discrepancy is small and in other cases large. The 2015-16 decline is not yet available from the Auditor General, but in the previous year the decline was 857 (1.8%), not 826.

Re: “Desert Angel

The placement of some water tanks in the desert doesn't convince anyone to try to illegally immigrate to the US. They are convinced by the conditions and circumstances they are in prior to making the mortally dangerous trek. The majority of Americans don't understand that kind of desperation, but it's an extremely impoverished soul that believes attempting to illegally immigrate should be punished by death.

What Mr. Smith is doing is leaving water in designated, legally mandated areas so that those who are desperate enough to risk their lives trying to make it into the US don't die from lack of water. Humane Borders and Mr. Smith are operating both lawfully and humanely.

Also, due to lack of imagination and reasoning skills, it seems to have entirely alluded those of you who are in opposition to the water tanks that they are known by border patrol and actually provide a means of concentrated traffic by which border patrol can anticipate and apprehend those who are desperate enough to have to use them. They are simply life saving measures that actually aid both the human life of the immigrant and border patrol.

Larry, the article states if he gives them a ride he will be aiding and abetting. The fine is high and he could.go to jail. So he's doing what he can that is legal.

Well, that was earnest... It's not really a crime if D'Souza does it and it's not really not a crime if Clinton does it. Got it.

Re: “Review: Hillary’s America: the Secret History of the Democratic Party

This review is as twisted and academically immature as your writing skills are. I will never get the hour and twenty-seven minutes or so of my life back. I wonder if a movie such as this revisited the Trump ticket from the REAL Republican ticket through the reason he feel being orange makes any sense whatsoever. You are an embarrassment to the Libertarian party as it sits.
