Re: “Fight the “Fight for Fifteen”

Colin, why bother? It doesn't matter if the subject is biz, health, or any other facet of the modern world: "Institute" is a handy little code-phrase for "Bought and paid for by _____. Our job is to think for you so you don't have to."

If you happen to disagree, then just change "Employment Policy Institute" to "Environment Policy Institute", and see how much you find yourself wanting trust that theoretical entity instead...

Re: “Earth Day: When Endangered Species Awareness & Sustainable Condoms Meet

I think the Center for Biological Diversity should take their own advice and use the condoms themselves. At least then there will be fewer environmentalists around to poke their nose into everyone's business.

Re: “Earth Day: When Endangered Species Awareness & Sustainable Condoms Meet

Numerous species have been caught lying about the required habitat area. Just simply mapping that to the available are reported to be needed would prove just as pointless as using computer projections to guestimate the possibility of man made climate change .

That's why the scientists lied.

I don't need a challenge. I challenge you to stop falling hook line and sinker for every scam that comes to the media through the internet.

Re: “Earth Day: When Endangered Species Awareness & Sustainable Condoms Meet

I think you could figure it out using the area of habitat required by each major species, which I believe is a known thing. You could then just keep mapping that to the avail, able area of required habitat and its rate of shrinkage over time. There's your challenge, David W.

Re: “Fight the “Fight for Fifteen”

The quote from Employment Policy Institute, “According to U.S. government data, in 2006..." doesn't actually seem to appear anywhere on the page:
That link actually takes you to a study published in 2000.

That aside, this argument seems to miss the point. There is demand (in the purely economic sense of the word) for all sorts of things that we don't allow. Where is the benefit in letting capital buy people's time for starvation wages?

Re: “TUSD Students Are Not Taking Budget Cuts to Education Calmly: We're Turning 18 Soon & Not Voting for You Ducey

You sound more ignorant than the Governor. Of Course Arizona HAS the money to invest in Education. In the past 8 years, the Republican led state legislature has GIVEN away billions of dollars in corporate tax cuts. Did you know that 2 out of 3 Arizona corporations pay NO state income tax?! Yet those companies enjoy our roads and police/fire protection, our court systems and our schools. All the things that are paid for by income taxes. Im just sick of it. Instead of pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into prisons - the inept Republican led state legislature needs to change draconian sentencing guidelines so that we have fewer prisoners serving time for minor offenses. AND finally - no human being is "ILLEGAL" - they may be undocumented, but we will do better as a society if we educate not discriminate!

Re: “Fight the “Fight for Fifteen”

Betts not all businesses are owned by corporations. Not all McDonalds are owned by corporations same goes for any of the fast food restaurants. They do have to pay for the name along with rent/mortgage, property taxes, utilities, product, employee wages and insurance. They also have the cost of upkeep on the building and appliances they use. Paying a higher wage would raise the price of the product that they sell. Not many people can afford it now and fewer will be able to afford it if the price goes up. That leaves the owner the options of letting people go to cover the higher wages or closing the doors because not enough people is buying the product to cover costs. That also goes to mom and pop restaurants. Until more and more people get back to work and as long as we have illegals that are doing the jobs at lesser wages (yes it is suppose to be against the law to hire illegals but our fabulous government in DC won't let our laws be enforced) decent jobs will not happen.

Re: “Court Hears Emergency Appeal to Temporary Block of Obama's Extended DACA, DAPA Programs

Immigrants came through Ellis Island neither legally nor illegally as no legality existed. If you could get yourself on a boat whether you paid your fare, snuck onto it, or came willingly as an indentured slave or brought as slave - all were welcome and needed for the development of this country and yet at every step of the way this government had attempted to take away the rights of the people it has used to attain it's status.

-The fact that man knows right from wrong proves his intellectual superiority to the other creatures; but the fact that he can do wrong proves his moral inferiority to any creatures that cannot. – Mark Twain (1835– 1910)

"Since 1970, the world's population has nearly doubled from 3.7 billion to 7.2 billion, while wildlife has dramatically declined, according to the center.

...and the same happened since 1930-1970.

Why no REAL animal numbers? Because they don't exist.

They're just "blowin in the wind."

Re: “Fight the “Fight for Fifteen”

If only life were as simple as Betts made it out to be. In most third world country they still follow the rule that gains are made through effort.

You could give 10,000 people a goat, and I bet by Sunday three guys own all the goats. It is the law of economic consequences that you seek to undo.

Efforts would be better spent spinning the earth the other direction.
