Re: “Doug Ducey: Board of Education Should Review Common Core, Not Kill It...Yet

Just how far up does Ducey have to look to see mediocrity?

Re: “Five Flowing Wells Students Arrested for Plotting to Kill Classmate

"Holy fuck, this type of incoherent gibberish posted by FWHS "students" are what my property tax dollars are funding?"

exjourno, you have some subject-verb disagreement going on here ("this type... are what my property tax dollars are funding") and you begin with a complete gratuitous obscenity, so maybe you should study your own gibberish before criticizing others.

Re: “Polo Education: the Great Private School Democratizer?

These same brothers are funding every governor in the U.S. who is gutting public education. I think it is pretty clear what the Koch brothers are all about.

Re: “DREAMer Leaders Go After Presidential Hopeful Ted Cruz's Extremely Conservative Stance on Immigration

Imagine wanting to enforce the immigration laws as they currently stand. How barbaric and cruel. Central american gang member have a right to kill and rob American citizens without the constant fear of deportation spoiling their aim. It is somewhere in a penumbra of our constitution, one of Obama's unpublished law review articles explains it all with his usual scintillating and incisive brilliance.

Re: “Crisis of Confidence: City Transportation Staff Called Out on Double-Dealing

It's good to see Tim Vanderpool writing for the Weekly again...on any topic. The management has obviously realized that hard-hitting journalism earns its keep -- it's read, attracting advertisers -- whereas human (dis)interest stories merely cost money to write and are seldom read. Tucson is continually in ferment, which is how it should be in a vital community. The media (those that count, which excludes local TV and most local radio) need to remember and honor this press axiom. Thanks Paul and Thelma for bringing Tim and investigative journalism back to the Weekly.

Re: “Crisis of Confidence: City Transportation Staff Called Out on Double-Dealing

A few people told me that there was an "official looking" video crew, but when I wrote to the city at the Broadway address, they said only TV crews were there. My friend confirmed tonight that someone taped the whole thing. Who?

I heard the speeches were eloquent against the widening. The public should hear them.

You could at least have the decency to answer my question. Can't engage in a debate in the arena of ideas, so just delete me.. Once again, I win.

Hit the kiddie table, GuiseppeKnows, and leave this one to the adults. Those of us that grew up in Tucson (much more than those FEW that have your panties in a bunch) would like to see some of the character remain. I think Kozachik realizes this. Why? Because he, unlike you, actually seems to like Tucson.

Re: “Crisis of Confidence: City Transportation Staff Called Out on Double-Dealing

Please define "the Good of ALL". This will cost the city tens of millions of dollars for construction, lose tens of millions more in tax revenue, and permanently saddle us with increased road maintenance costs, all to fix a traffic congestion problem that doesn't exist, because traffic on that stretch of Broadway Blvd has not increased, and is in fact lighter than it was thirty years ago. You can check for yourself: http://www.pagnet.org/tabid/507/default.aspx

So, what are the merits of this project, and how does it benefit all county residents if it is built, taking into account the costs?

Re: “Crisis of Confidence: City Transportation Staff Called Out on Double-Dealing

And ONLY the people who live in that stretch have any say so or input (that was ultimately disregarded anyway) right? Because those FEW people (out of 1 million plus of Us!) we call them NIMBYS....will be telling the rest of us ....yet again.. what to do?? Please Steve Grow Up.. its time the Good of ALL outweighed the perceived "good" of the few...few..few. Time to move into the 21st century , get a smartphone, and maybe even.. gulp - Internet!

Re: “DREAMer Leaders Go After Presidential Hopeful Ted Cruz's Extremely Conservative Stance on Immigration

CruZ is more of an American in his views than any any any progressive liberal socialist Quisling Democrat. This poor media flack has no understanding of our heritage , history or values or she would see that Hispanics would benefit from Cruz unlike under the Dems who only use minorities at ...election times.

Re: “Crisis of Confidence: City Transportation Staff Called Out on Double-Dealing

I was at that meeting and can confirm the account above. It was painful to watch the dissembling from officials who seemed to think they could manipulate the whole process and evade inconvenient questions. There is a serious disconnect between the authority the task force was told it had and the way project officials are treating them.

The best course of action at this point is to scrap the whole damn thing and start over. To hell with the RTA money. With property acquisition costs, lost tax revenue, increased maintenance costs, and possible construction overruns, this is going to cost the city a ton of money for absolutely no benefit.

Re: “What Will We Tell the Children? Nogales Unified School District Edition

I'm tired of hearing our local education professionals and leaders whine about the AZ legislature. If they don't know how to lead a public school district in a challenging context like this, they shouldn't have taken a job in TUSD, run for the TUSD board, or applied for its Superintendency. Ultimately, the buck stops with them in terms of what happens to children in their schools.

The majority of voters in this region did not vote for Ducey. Both the constituency in Southern Arizona and the current State Superintendent of Education don't buy the goods Ducey is selling. Perhaps a little Dupnik-style leadership is what is in order here. Most parents whose kids are being subjected to "the standards are on the board; this test is required; that test is mandatory" education would prefer some judicious "conscientious objections" or refusals to enforce to the capitulation to bad practices and total absence of vision district spokespeople seem to offer up these days.

Re: “DREAMer Leaders Go After Presidential Hopeful Ted Cruz's Extremely Conservative Stance on Immigration

Who made these "Dreamer" leaders the voice for the Latino Community? I am Latino and they most assuredly do not speak for me. I cannot believe they speak for anyone other than their own ilk.

Cruz is American first and Latino second, as are the vast majority of us with Latin heritage. I would expect him to act like an American under all circumstances, not a citizen of any other country.

This is a fundamental problem with many Dreamers; they want to be Latinos first. That, my friends, is wrong and one of the many, many reasons they must be sent back. America First - always!!!

Re: “Family of Flowing Wells Conspiracy to Commit Murder Suspect Starts Crowdfunding Campaign

Yes, teenagers can do really stupid stuff and have very poor judgment. Their brains are not fully formed, especially in the decision-making areas. However, the idea of murdering a person for whatever perceived insult was offered to one of them goes way beyond "poor choices." Have the trial, evaluate the evidence and testimony, and then if found guilty, discuss "second chances." Getting a little tired of the constant refrain of "give him another chance." Won't be donating to this fund. What part of Thou Shalt Not Kill did they miss in their home training?
