Re: “What Makes a Tucson Legend?

Kitt Peak - lovely drive that I have just discovered after living here my whole life (55 years now)! I plan to make my hubby take us for a drive up during the monsoon this year.

Re: “Oh Hey, the University of Arizona Was Knocked by Family Guy

I wish the writer wasn't taking it all so hard. There is a sore-loser vibe to Mendez's pieces about the MacFarlane Mafia's Tucson trash talking. Makes stupid outsiders think we're all sore losers. And when you think about the fact that the MacMafia dumps on women, gays, Jews, Mexicans, Blacks, the handicapped, and Boston even more than Tucson, it's not so bad.

Re: “So What's New?

Rick, I hadn't heard about the right to return legislation in Spain. I'm not sure it's done much. The current Jewish population in the whole country is around 12,000, or .026 percent of the population. I was told in the Jewish museum in Cordoba that there are currently 12 Jewish families in the city. I guess the question is, after all those centuries, what is there to return to?

Re: “The Fox Theatre Was Vandalized This Weekend

The worst is that there was no talent behind the graffiti!!! If you're stupid enough to do that at least make it worth it! The Graffitti is garbage!

Re: “What Makes a Tucson Legend?

The Sunsets, the shade sharks (residents who endure our brutal summers by any and every means necessary), and great historical spots with stories, like Tucson Botanical Gardens!

Re: “The Fox Theatre Was Vandalized This Weekend

Hope these idiots are caught and made to remove every last bit of graffiti and then get a hefty fine on top of it.

Re: “Legal Theft, Part I

I would rather go up against a criminal before a criminal-with-a-badge, ANY day of the week. At least a regular garden-variety run-o'-the-mill criminal won't call for backup.

And get a paid vacation after he/she takes your life.

At least a regular criminal would be prosecuted and punished.

As opposed to being "Cop of the Year" or something.

Cops are as bad any criminal.

If not worse.

Re: “The Fox Theatre Was Vandalized This Weekend

Isn't the Fox in the same block with the "pod" people? They must have seen something....How about cameras on the corner?

This is unacceptable. Anywhere!

Re: “The Fox Theatre Was Vandalized This Weekend

What's with the shitty actions towards local non profits? If I remember correctly, wasn't Tu Nidito recently vandalized? And a local firehouse?? This isn't what 'keep Tucson shitty' means to me. This is not OK Tucson!

Re: “So What's New?

Terrific article David. The golden age of Jewish and Moslem fraternity in Spain is unfortunately lost to history but a reminder that today's sworn enemies once lived and created great works together. Interesting to note that Spain has instituted its own right to return legislation offering Sephardic Jews dual citizenship in Spain and their home countries.

Re: “Maker House Founder Feels Threatened by Homeless Activist & It's Hard to Grasp Why

If the man feels threatened, he feels threatened. He has his own filters, and who are we to judge them? I don't think he should be made into some kind of poster-boy for how frustrated we all are about the issue.

Re: “So What's New?

Welcome back, David. Enlightening post on your trip - an aspect that I was not aware of. In terms of what you missed, I guess the only real piece of education news is Diane Douglas' intended "listening tour" of the State. Don't know what she hopes to accomplish except a bunch of people wanting more funding from a penny-pinching legislature.

Re: “So What's New?

Relish your trip and new found, additional wisdom, David. If you did miss something important, and as Hopis teach, it will surely come around again.

I always appreciate hearing about times when people of different religions lived, learned and prospered together. I cannot resist pointing out that those were times when there was no military/intelligence/industrial complex prospering from dividing people with perpetual war.

Re: “So What's New?

Since we are considered a Christian nation, our legacy seems to be anti-education and generally anti-thinking. That certainly is not inspiring. Another legacy that seems to be perpetuated is that Muslims are bad and they certainly are not. Extremists are the problem and we have had Christian extremists too. The Crusades are just one example and we have a mild version of that in some sectors now. We need to look in our own backyard for problems and stop pointing fingers.

Re: “Maker House Founder Feels Threatened by Homeless Activist & It's Hard to Grasp Why

As the 'progressive' center Tucson is proud to be, we need to recognize that the homeless are the pride of Tucson, much like the illegals, they must be protected, coddled, and their needs placed above all others.

Shouldn't we at least be providing free 'dump' zones on the streets of downtown so they can come out of the shadows?
