Re: “What A Riot!

My name is Willy Bernhard Bils. I have a law degree from the University of Oregon and passed the Arizona bar exam in 1991, after which I was, for many years, a civil rights privacy rights, and consumer rights advocate in Tucson, with regular local impact, some regional impact, and occasional national impact on such issues between 1990 and 2012. The Weekly, through the efforts of Dave Devine, Emil Franzi, and James Reel, among others, was responsible for publishing information I provided it about the problems with the Tucson Police Department and local privacy and other public interest issues between 1998 and 2003. The Weekly's coverage of these issues was of great benefit to the public during that time. Since then, the Weekly has provided far less coverage of these issues, perhaps since TPD has undergone substantial reform and Americans have been led by elements in the government and corporate-controlled news media to falsely believe their privacy is hopelessly compromised since the rise of the American police state caused by the passage of the Patriot Act, the creation of the Department of Homeland Security, and other "terrorism protection" measures taken by all government agencies and virtually all major corporations (primarily involving the FBI and data mining "fusion centers" which have collected government and corporate data since the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon on September 11, 2001). In fact, since that time, Americans throughout the Nation have remained disturbed about police misconduct (which has reduced in Tucson, but still needs to be monitored),privacy issues, and corporate abuses, although at a far lower level than occurred prior to 9/11. It remains the public's duty in Tucson to continue to bring these issues to the attention to reporters at all local news media agencies, to a new crop of reporters who must be educated to take an interest in these issues, such as their predecessors Peter Linton-Smith, Morgan Loew, Chip Yost, Som Lisaius, and Bud Foster at KOLD-TV, and others at KGUN-TV, KVOA-TV, and KUAT-TV, the reporting staff of the Arizona Daily Star (editorial editor Jim Kiser, primarily), and local radio talk shows including The John C. Scott Show (KTUC, KTKT, and KVOI) and the former Inside Track program (hosted by political expert and fervent American patriot, Emil Franzi). This is of even greater concern since the election of Donald Trump as President of the United States, whose inauguration may bring even more Draconian measures than those taken since 9/11, despite his promises to the contrary. Do not rest in working for the protection of your civil and consumer rights in America, for they are the backbone of what has made America great since 1776. For more information on how to accumulate data and to bring new stories on these issues to the the press and government, please contact me at the Center for the Study of Privacy Rights, P.O. Box 44326, Tucson, AZ 85733; telephone: (520) 302-2797; Email address: wbctrprivrights@gmail.com. Thank you.

Re: “U.S. Rep. Grijalva Won't Be Attending the Trump Inauguration

Well gee...

Considering that weak logic, your dumb ass should move to Maricopa County.

That way you could stain the New Times website, instead of annoying 99.99999% of the people who visit this site. I hope that you have a facebook account, I believe that's how they do stuff over there. In a way, I do understand that...it keeps out prickhead trolls such as yourself.

Still do not get it!

Sorry you don't understand or support the Constitution of the United States but no-one is stopping you to live in New York, California, Massachusetts or a couple other states that supported Crooked Hillary, but the rest of the country says FU!

I know it's asking a lot, but how about giving the guy a chance before you condem him. Believe me, if he drops the ball I'll be the first one to bitch. If right-wingers treated Obama the way Trump is treated we'd be the worst racists of all time. Skin heads? Another asshole heard from. I love when you fools prove my point for me.

Re: “Not Going Anywhere

I gotta agree with CW13. I like to see all sides and make up my own mind.
I don't follow any party line, I'm independent (can think for myself).

Re: “U.S. Rep. Grijalva Won't Be Attending the Trump Inauguration

U still do not get it. The point is that the majority of voters did not want a Billionaire ego-maniac to represent their interests. A fact. Yes, we lost but then so did the entire country. Let's see what happens within the next 6 months. We will find out soon if the Don compromised himself while in Moscow. My bet is he did which explains why he keeps defending Putin; a barbaric war criminal. Hum! Does it not bother you that Putin supports Trump along with all of the skin heads?

I like to hear from both sides. If you don't like it I strongly suggest that you blow it out your ass. Besides, it's always good for a laugh.

I didn't realize that the "city's Small Business Commission and Parks and Recreation Commission" bestowed law degrees.

Re: “U.S. Rep. Grijalva Won't Be Attending the Trump Inauguration

Once again to all the college graduates....there is no prize for the MOST votes. 8th grade Civics taught about the Electoral College, before the progressives destroyed public education.

All those "intellectual comments" did not lower the national debt, create well paying jobs for Americans, or even make my healthcare insurance affordable. Instead we invested in rainbows and unicorns.

Thus the phrase "over educated idiots."

The Cubs made a lifetime out of being good losers. Add good to your resume.

I think Mr. Siatta would break out with some sort of hives no one ever heard of if he was ever faced with facts. I would suggest seeing a mental health specialist. Better yet, how about supporting what you said with one of those elusive facts?

Re: “U.S. Rep. Grijalva Won't Be Attending the Trump Inauguration

Wow! It is too bad that The Weekly has now attracted these nothing-beyond- high-school-graduate- low-level thinkers. And even if they have PhD.s, they are not thinking beyond their politically repressed high school graduate level. Comments used to be somewhat intellectual in The Weekly. Is this part of the unleashing of the Trump-haters? Must be. I have a very strong feeling that the approximately 150,000 voters from the three states that wound up giving Trump his electoral votes to win are going to very sorry when they see that Trump could care less about the "common" person. You know, most of us! Trump is all about his scheme to become even wealthier. Why else hide his tax returns? His jive about being audited is just more of his bull-Trump. He is nothing but a shifty coward. and his Russian connections. Perhaps before it is all over he will be hung for treason. We can only hope. Just remember that 3,000,000 MORE (yes, MORE) voters voted for Hillary. Like her or not, she got the most votes in the United States of America.

Re: “Not Going Anywhere

Why do right wingers read the TW if they hate liberal views? What do they expect? There's plenty of periodicals that cater to their philosophy. And its the same people week after week. Simply amazes me.

Thank you, Mari, for vocalizing what many of us are feeling as well. The hypocrisy is stunning. McSally is the NRA darling. Voters will remember in 2018.

Re: “U.S. Rep. Grijalva Won't Be Attending the Trump Inauguration

"To understand that decision, Grijalva said, people need to know that loyalty is important to him. It goes back to 1981, long before Glassman and most of Tucson's current politicos were on the scene, when he was arrested for driving under the influence, while he was still on the school board.

"When I endorsed Glassman, they said I turned my back on the Latinos, but those are choices that are ... based on history and loyalty and returning a favor," he said. "I don't forget the people who were there for me when no one else was. I don't forget the people who helped me resurrect my career after my DUI."

Mari Herreras June 28, 2012 Tucson Weekly

Thank you Mari.

Thought I would also look at wikipedia.

Ral Grijalva's father was a migrant worker from Mexico who entered the United States in 1945 through the Bracero Program and labored on southern Arizona ranches.[1] Grijalva was born in Tucson, Arizona, and graduated from Sunnyside High School in 1967. He is a 2004 inductee to the Sunnyside High School Alumni Hall of Fame. He attended the University of Arizona and earned a bachelor's degree in sociology. While at the University, he was a member of Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztln (MEChA) which, at that time, was a radical group identified with the separatist "Aztln" ideology. Grijalva also served as a leader of the Chicano Liberation Committee and other Chicano groups.
In addition, he was an Arizona leader of the Raza Unida Party. According to the standard history of the party by Dr. Armando Navarro, "Grijalva was so militant that he alienated some members of Tucson's Mexican-American community. After losing in his first bid for elective office, a 1972 run for a seat on the school board, he began to cultivate a less radical image.

Militant? Interesting.
