I wish he picked a different district...
Did Brewer "expose" this or cause it through lack of funding?
Corrupt, Corrupt, Corrupt - 6,000 cases neglected! How could they not know about 6,000 cases? Brewer has little choice but to clean house to restore public faith ASAP! Was the AG's Ofc. asleep at the wheel on this one too? 6,000 cases uninvestigated are testimony to a systematic failure - someone must have known. Why did they remain quiet for so long?
"Pressed by reporters about problems with CPS during her tenure, Brewer noted that her administration exposed the uninvestigated cases."
Good point, Steve. Setback or unfortunate result would be more correct literally. I used the word disaster (probably inappropriately) because outrageous extreme rhetoric rather than reasonable/rationale thought and dialogue is what the party people/activists tend to understand.Tempe is different situation though because the other 9 reps and 5 senators who represent Tucson are dems, except a dozen or so precincts that David Gowan represents. Tempe is not sitting out there with a bulls eye in the legislature. The question remains why would anyone not support a moderate who is relevant, third generation Tucsonan, can protect us, and as you have said, a good guy? When I have my rep call a department head at the State level I want them to give a damn who he is and not brush his concerns aside. YES, in a perfect world it would be 50 /50 or maybe even a Dem/Ind/third party gov and Republican legislature, but I am a realist.
I recently had the opportunity to tour Manzo Elementary. I was very impressed. The students are very involved and excited about learning. The integrated model is providing a great foundation for learning at a level that has meaning to the students, it is not just an academic exercise, but something connected to the real world.
Very impressive and innovative. Well done!
The concerns with CPS has been well known for years with respect to understaffed as a result of the family court not doing its share of the work. However, as the AZ Governor stated, it is unclear if Carter was aware of the lower rank corruption. The Governor stated that she seeks an independent agency to investigate into who was authorizing the CPS Units with such corrupt conduct of investigation policy violations with the upper DES leadership being by-passed. Why? The link below shows that Pima County Judiciary often contacted and directed false findings to CPS agents and units, during open hotline investigations. On around August 2012 Commissioner Dean Christoffel and Commissioner Margaret Maxwell had been documented in contacting CPS agents and units directing them to modify CPS investigation reports. Mr Tod Stone of DES Records office modified CPS records without acquiring upper leadership approval authorizing him to modify records as to meet the judiciary "verbal orders" to embed and modify records of interests to the judiciary in the pima county superior court. Judges and Commissioners of Pima County Superior Court directed CPS agents to fabricate false findings against fathers evidenced from 2007 to present. The first round of corruption was discovered in 2012 and three agents had been terminated and by years end the entire Broadway Blvd CPS Unit was scattered and all agents and managers terminated. Fathers had been setup through fraud record as a result of corrupt commissioners and judges of pima country superior court contacting and directed the agents to side step the CPS's upper leadership and CPS policy. It is clear that the family court judiciary over burdened CPS with cases by failing to do their job during the family court proceedings and unilaterally interfering with active CPS investigations. There does appear that family court often accused CPS from 2007 to present rather then using its family court judiciary discretion to honorably rule on the thousands of cases that are clearly evidenced based and should have been resolved within the family court process rather then family court tossing the clear concerns over the wall to CPS.
Don't watch it, don't show it to your kids, it's not serious... these are all just ridiculous comments made by ridiculous people. Contrary to popular belief, having freedom of speech doesn't give people the right to say anything they want. Don't believe me? Try yelling "fire" in a movie theater or "bomb" on a plane. Some things are just not allowed for the public safety. Now, those of you who don't understand or seem to think this kind of absolute crap is ok, need a moral education. The fact that you disagree is reason enough. Nobody with any class appreciates something that only serves to continue the degradation of our social values. I'm sure the gay community doesn't appreciate how this character portrays them either. Put in simple terms, this show is crap and it's just sad that there are people like those posting here that actually support it.
I would take what Demitri says about electing Democrats from Pima County with a huge grain of salt. Ethan's a good guy, but it would not "spell disaster" for Pima County or anywhere else in Arizona to elect a Democrat to replace him. Laurie Roberts tried that tack last year, blaming Tempe Democrats for all sorts of doom because we defeated good guy Republican Jerry Lewis. Lewis would not have been able to accomplish what having a united Senate Democratic caucus accomplished last June with the Medicaid restoration bill.
Obviously barbara got a little too fucked up when she experienced the meet rack cause your sure as hell have gotten the tour with all that information about the meet rack.↑↑↑ Dont let this bad name I wont say↑↑↑ misinform you. The meet rack is a great establishment!! My favorite bar in Tucson!! Its has a great history, and since when my parents were young GOD has been entertaining the FUN people of Tucson. I mean come on dont be so close minded people go down and see what im talking about. I am proudly branded 3 times (all three completely willing and happy that i can always look down at them and remember the amazing times I've had there) when anyone asks for my recommendation of a bar in Tucson its the meet rack. I love the meet rack and GOD AKA Jim
Electing another Democrat from Pima County would only spell disaster for our region due to the reality that it inevitably WILL BE a republican controlled State House. The Democrats in their singular focus of winning blindly sacrifice all of us along the way! ALL reasonable people who have business with the State have experienced the importance of Ethan Orr. Normal citizens who are not party ideologues will see through this and the good intentioned Doctor will lose. Tucson is already marginalized State wide because of our one party nature let's not make it worse. IF I were a State Republican strategist, and I am not, I would do everything I could to diminish Tucson's influence (economic viability) as it only breeds more of the enemy, losing Ethan would mean we are more of a target. All independents, moderates and Tucsonans should/will support having Ethan's voice working on our behalf, a voice that is relevant, common sense and in the majority caucus. Ethan represents a balanced approach to governance, he is a native of Tucson and a fellow Amphi Panther. Furthermore, he is courageous, fiscally accountable and takes a heartfelt approach to governance. Ethan, it seems like one party has a target on your back and one on your chest! LOVE IT! Keep up the good work, focus on right and wrong, and let the petty party people be party people.
Greg has done a wonderful job of restoration of the statues. The Garden is a beautiful sanctuary and I am sure Felix Lucero would be honored to see it now.
Is he a Republican or Democrat?
Yes, please pass the squash... away from me. And thanks a lot Lions for ruining a cherished Thanksgiving tradition.
Anyhow, interesting article; always keen to hear the often convoluted paths the English language has taken to arrive at its present locale.
Damn, y'all r sum rude ppl..kinda sounds like envy if ya ask me..love em or hate em 4 whatever reason but @least b decent. they r still human beings!
did this debacle even occur?
I'm a little hazy on how the director of DES discovered anything about investigations in CPS. I don't doubt that CPS is deeply flawed, I'm just wondering how this was actually discovered. I'm positive it wasn't because Jan had someone look into things.
As much as we don't like it, bars like the Meet Rack and The Buffet are emblematic of Tucson. This city is a little dirty, rough around the edges, and mostly full of impoverished to lower middle class people. What better to represent a dive of a city than a dive of a bar?
I hope the production team finds a way to feature the public art/outdoor gallery of historic neon signs that were installed nearby. Those are pretty great.
While the 'Meet Rack' can certainly make it onto a list of the 'Worst Dive Bars in the U.S.' and is a horrific representation of Tucson, negative publicity is better than no publicity at all, I suppose. Millions of viewers throughout the world will hear 'Tucson, AZ' and the visual attached to it will be the 'Meet Rack.' The bar is colorful, dirty, only accepts cash, has no A/C (Hello, it's Tucson?!?!?); in addition to that and many other things, the bar has an S & M room w/equipment that looks like it's NEVER been cleaned, and the women's restroom has a condom machine that is rigged to bells and sirens, so if you buy a condom and open the door to walk back into the bar, the spotlight is on you.
More than likely, it was Kourtney's idea to go to the 'Meet Rack,' as it existed when she was a UA student, so she knows that it will get viewers talking. In 2002, Kourtney Kardashian graduated from The University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Arts - Major: Theater Arts. I always heard that she graduated from the UA's Eller College of Management with a business degree, which would explain her business savvy, as she primarily runs the sisters' 'D-A-S-H' stores and more.
I guess whomever tunes in will see how Tucsonans are portrayed to the rest of the world; hopefully, they won't believe the hype.
The meat rack rules! One of the best things about Tucson
I just visited the "Button" Salmon bust at its new location, and I noticed a change on the plaque: Button's name has been expanded! He's now John BYRD "Button" Salmon. Now 100 years later, his middle name suddenly matters? Ya learn something new every day...
