Re: “An Update On High Stakes Test Cheating Stories

David,

Your focus on income inequality as the determining factor in test results, for that matter education is misplaced. I respect your many years in this field however,I recognize that successful education is a multi-faceted effort. Income inequality is a minor contributor, in my view. I have worked with schools and education systems in many countries and, except in extreme cases (rural central Africa), income differences are not a driver in success or a predication of failure .

If one looks closely at those countries that consistently have high test results and, I suppose, good education, there is a common factor - cultural homogeneity - not racial, but cultural. Japan, China, the Nordic countries and much of Northern Europe come to mind.

Here, the US wrongly pushes a cultural identity agenda. With this, we have a self-destructive black sub-culture and a "Latino sub-culture" (this is nuts, as there is no true Latin culture as such - I have lived in a number of Latin countries and am of Mexican descent). So now we have each group, speaking some variety of unintelligible English, and not able to be educated for mostly self-induced reasons. These then enter the labor force with no communication skills and few marketable talents. This perpetuates the "income inequality" that so concerns you.

Once we all tried to integrate. To be sure it was imperfect, but for this boy it worked and worked well. My heritage was a distant second to the fact that I was an American. The difference (not disparity) of family incomes meant nothing, nothing at all.

Where are those of Asian descent???? Oh yes, they integrated and now fill the halls of Harvard, Sanford and Cornell. I guess all Asians are rich.

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

People working at the hospital as housekeepers only make $9/hr with hardly any raises(umc hospital) have to clean shit and even nurses or patient care techs make less than $15/hr and have to deal with even less pleasing people than bus drivers who are on their asses all day. Granted public transportation is an important service but what they're demanding is childish and will have even worse repercussions

In response to jody 2 tone. So you're going to be pissed? When this strike is over and these workers are back doing their terrible jobs driving the worst bus service in the world, are you going to do all of them a favor and ride a skate board?

Re: “Sun Tran Strike Opinion Piece: The Bus Buck Stops Where?

Honorable Mayor Rothschild, How long are you going to remain silent while the citizens of Tucson suffer because of the bus strike? It's time for you to exercise your leadership role and serve your constituents!! If you are not willing to step up, then step down!! Tucson citizens deserve a Mayor that works for all who live here!!

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

These fools are performing a public service, if they can't handle the heat, they need to get the f*** out of the kitchen. All these (horrible) drivers are doing is making it worse on themselves and the community, people are going to be pissed. From lost jobs, to going without medicine, or care for children, they're going to have a ton of angry patrons from here on out. I've been assaulted by a bus driver before, suntran did nothing, he even seen me again and lied to force me off of the bus. This is the worst bus service in the whole of the world. I've met trash workers who were nicer. Nearly every driver is obese and stuck up, riding around in an Ac & sparco seat with a frown on your face and 16-20 dollars am hour must be so tough. Karma is going to put in some work for these demons.

Re: “Danehy

Wanna have fun merging...try the frewways around san Francisco.
No signals...just 70 mph and here I come so you better not be in the lane I'm heading for as I enter the freeway. It's nuts. I'm surprised more people dont get killed.
Tucson traffic may be a mess but we are much better off than many metro areas in this country.

Oh, and half the time, the San Fran feeways look like parking lots....insane....

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

Let's get down to brass tacks here: If the drivers and Teamsters Union cared anything about the working poor in this town they would not strike. Period. This is a no brainer. If I care about you as a human being I would not be able to put you and your children out in the street, especially in the current economic situation. When a group of people says one thing but does another, I believe their actions rather that their words. Pretty simple.

Re: “Sun Tran Strike Opinion Piece: The Bus Buck Stops Where?

Common Sense I agree with you. They are hurting people who are not even involved. Honestly I think that they dont need that kind of pay since they do sit and drive in ac. Construction workers make less and they are in unsafe areas and risk there health also. I think that Suntran should use the pay increase amount not for hourly wages but for safety and health issues. Sun Tran should have them take classes on safety and customer service skills. As for health a professional cleaning can be hired with that money also. Especially since Andrew Marshall stated that its that's it crazy to have sun Tran employee clean up.

Re: “Remember Kandis Capri and Stop The Killing

78 police officers have been killed in the line of duty this year, already.

Has anybody noticed that murder increased when we dropped the death penalty?

Finger pointing is wasting time. The customers are being poorly served. I hope their memories work.

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

If you haven't noticed inflation. Putting the blame on the Teamsters or drivers is ludicrous. It was clearly explained that the management company is at fault and the city. Since you can't read jordan:
Transdev, previously Veolia; the 60% French Government owned, for profit management company, is contracted by the City of Tucson to manage Sun Tran. Transdev took over Tom Hock’s company; Professional Transit Management. The city of Tucson can terminate this contract with Transdev at anytime. Its even more stupid that the city spend millions on a rail that goes less than a few miles only benefiting the college kids and not on a bus system that a larger demographic of tucson uses.

More than 3 veterans commit suicide a day.

This is not news to any real Americans. Just because some dude wears women's clothes does not make him a martyr.

Wake up America.

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

What's with all the temporary routes being in the same part of town... my wife and I live on the east side of town... best we can do is the 8 or the 4 which only takes us farther out of the way to catch and to our destination.

Teamsters you are all being foolish to think you can ask so much in this crap economy.

Persis G Martinez you have the stupidest comment I have ever seen. If Suntran doesn't want to give drivers a pay raise why do you think they would spend MORE money to hire a clean up team. We would like to know what is your job genius?

Re: “Community Forum Tonight at Alliance for Global Justice Will Focus on Sen. McCain's Border Security Bill SB 750

I'm not surprised that temperature history is inadequate, you can't even get an accurate weather forecast for tomorrow let alone 150 years ago. Measuring devices have become so much more accurate and we now collate thousands of locations.

But to believe that it's starting fires? Come on Mary. You need to lighten up a little and enjoy life.

2013

"While global warming has been trumpeted as an epic climate change crisis with human-produced CO2, a trace atmospheric “greenhouse gas” branded as a primary culprit and endangering “pollutant,” remember that throughout earlier periods of Earth’s history CO2 levels have been between four and eighteen times higher than now, with temperature changes preceding, not following atmospheric CO2 changes.

It’s also worth remembering that about half of all estimated warming since 1900 occurred prior to the mid-1940s despite continuously rising CO2 levels. Also consider that, even today, about 97% of all current atmospheric CO2 derives from natural sources."

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

Are some of Suntran employees afraid to clean up their work place at times. Its not that hard beauty salons do it. Suntran should hire professionals to clean it up and use the money that teamster and the union to pay for it. Health issue solved. If your concerned about safety lower the pay increase and use the difference to pay for self defense classes, customer service skills,or additional security. DOESNT MARSHALL MENTION NUMEROUS TIMES THAT SAFETY IS MAIN CONCERN... SUNTRAN THINK NEW EMPLOYEES, TEAMSTER EITHER GET BACK TO WORK OR FIND A NEW JOB, AND UNION MEMBERS ITS NOT JUST ABOUT THE PAY ITS A SERVICE TO PUBLIC
