Re: “Guest Opinion

We need fresh ideas and respect for the constitution and Bill of Rights, not Kozachik.

Re: “T.H.R.E.A.T. Watch: Journalist Christiane Amanpour Is Worried

OMG! Why, when anyone says anything critical of Trump, the only thing his supporters can come back with is "Yeah, but Hillary...!!!" Give me a break. Can you not just respond about your guy? Ours lost. We lost, In my opinion, the American people lost.

I agree with David and Christiane's message. The media has to figure out how to do their job in this post-truth, Trumpian world. A free press has played a major role in making America the greatest democracy in the world and is absolutely key to keeping it that way!!

I own a business in Ward 6. I have found Steve and his staff to always be available and interested in whatever assistance I have requested. He is very practical and realistic in addressing the concerns of our community. I'm a big fan!

Re: “T.H.R.E.A.T. Watch: Journalist Christiane Amanpour Is Worried

Why is what the blowhard POTUS-elect SAYS about flag burning, libel, and a slanted media more troublesome that what the current POTUS does? Either the Standing Rock protests is (a) an example of the government attacking journalists and peaceful protesters via their proxy law enforcement agencies, or (b) a bunch of left wing nut jobs attacking a contractor performing a lawful project. I know which version I believe to be true, but I suspect the general Tucson Weekly reader would choose (a), in which case these crimes are being committed under the "most transparent of all time" Obama administration.

Re: “Guest Opinion

Such a great man, the picture of integrity! I love SteveK because he is a real human being and has a strong core that motivates everything he does. Though I live in the County and cannot vote for him, I am here to say that I will volunteer and do anything I can to make sure he gets re-elected. Tucson is lucky to have him work for our city. He always stands for what is RIGHT! Thank you for your service! You are 1 in a MILLION!

Re: “Clothing With A Purpose

"The resale model was proven successful through local Tucson clothing store, Buffalo Exchange." I know the Weekly is practically a Buffalo Exchange fan club, but it's not the only game in town. Desert Vintage and How Sweet It Was also deserve credit. (And Penelope's is still much-missed by some as well.)

Betts, to many if not all of us in the left (as opposed to mainstream neoliberal) wing of the Democratic party, what is going on now in the liberal media looks a lot like what went on in the conservative media after Obama was elected.

Re: “Betsy DeVos, Privatization and . . . Fallujah?

Wow, gcb1, what a lot of PREJUDICE you have to offer when it comes to discussing public vs. private schools. Is your commentary based on direct experience of private schools, as a parent, as a teacher, as a student? Or just on hearsay and assumptions?

I was quite surprised to see this from you -- I've been a fan, at some points, of your commentary on TUSD, and the forum you organized at Palo Verde was by far the best of the four TUSD forums I observed this fall.

"Some fall through the cracks, unfortunately, in public schools." A professional educator who is willing to allow that the loss of a child's education is an acceptable casualty is -- what shall I say? -- "irresponsible" is one way to put it. I know several children who failed to thrive in public schools whose educations were saved by the individualized attention they received in private schools. But evidently you feel that if a family doesn't have sufficient $$$, the opportunity available to some in our society to learn in an environment that more suits an individual child's needs should be blocked for them. That's what the actual, on-the-ground consequence of opposing all forms of "privatization" means.

Re: “Betsy DeVos, Privatization and . . . Fallujah?

De Vos has said that her children attended private schools and she wants that opportunity to be available to children from families where there may not be the means available to pay 100% of tuition out of pocket.

What's your opinion on that topic, David, as a private school parent?

(I'll tell you my personal opinion: anyone who has utilized private schools themselves for their own children does not have any ground to stand on when they oppose what is called "privatization," which, whatever they choose to call it, is in fact a means for a broader portion of our population to utilize the kinds of institutions they themselves have used. The only people who have a right to ask that the public system retain a monopoly on the use of public funds are those who have used the public system exclusively for their own children. And when I say exclusively, I mean for K-12, for college, and for professional school. If all of those levels of institutions have been utilized, ALL of those need to have been PUBLIC, for those who expect to oppose privatization without earning an epithet that seems to be coming up frequently in comment streams on your blogs these days: HYPOCRITE.)

Re: “T.H.R.E.A.T. Watch: Journalist Christiane Amanpour Is Worried

Dear Trump Supporters: your man won. He is going to be everyone's president. Congratulations. Be proud of your win.

As we move forward, though, please don't respond to a lie by our president with something about a lie by Hillary. That battle is done. It's not about Donald versus Hillary anymore. Please don't assume that everything President Trump says is the gospel truth, or everything in the mainstream media is a lie. I want him to succeed as president, so he has my support until he loses it. Please let's hold him to the standard of this great office.

Re: “T.H.R.E.A.T. Watch: Journalist Christiane Amanpour Is Worried

David, you quote Amanpour:

"...we have to be prepared to fight especially hard for the truth in a world where the Oxford English Dictionary just announced its word of 2016: post-truth."

And you agree with that? "We have to be prepared to fight especially hard for the TRUTH"? I'd like to remind you here, publicly, that when in 2014 you heard someone complain that a candidate you supported had lied about data in a public meeting and had been caught doing so, you mocked the individual who complained about the lying and told her not to "get her panties in a twist" or "have a case of the vapors" about a little lying by an elected official?

There were several witnesses to that conversation.

FYI a commitment to the truth, to have any validity, has to be UNIFORM. It is a commitment to the truth when it's Donald Trump violating the TRUTH, as well as when it's a candidate you've endorsed violating the TRUTH.

(Here, again, in case you've forgotten, is the definition of HYPOCRITE, provided to you recently by another one of the commenters on your blogs: "someone who claims to have moral standards or beliefs to which his own behavior does not conform.")

Marc Thiessen Bitch-Slaps Christiane Amanpour For Lying During CNN Interview

Please David. Do some research.

We do have a free press. It's too bad they have chosen to lie.
