Re: “Of Men and Wolves

I expect the food chain would be balanced by old Ma Nature. We are the ones who "modify" the food chain.

Re: “Of Men and Wolves

How would the increase in their population affect all other species at this point? It is definitely modifying the food chain. The red squirrels on Mt Graham would take it on the chin again would they?

Re: “Of Men and Wolves

It is not just "some critics" of the program who say that, in order for the Mexican wolf to become self-sustaining, the entire recovery population should increase to a minimum of 750 wolves in at least three core zones (the current population in the Blue Mountains of AZ/NM, the Grand Canyon watershed of northern AZ/southern UT, and southern CO/northern NM) linked by travel corridors. It was the professional biologists of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service who came to that conclusion.

Re: “Editor's Note

If you really want to know how the teachers feel (and why there aren't enough available in this state) ask some teachers how they are treated and how they feel about how education in handled here. I have friends and neighbors who are and have been teachers. If you listen to what kind of baloney they have to put up with, you'd understand why so many teachers today have chosen another jobs. Make it so they don't have to mention their sex or which school district they work in.
In the early "90's I did some volunteer work for a local school. I found a deaf child in a first or second grade class. (I have friends who have deaf kids so I spotted this kid in no time) The first words out of my mouth were "Where's his Signer?", assuming that in this day and age deaf kids had signers in public schools. His teacher didn't know what a signer was. She had no clue that he was deaf, and thought he had severe learning disabilities. I was shocked. "Has he had his hearing tested?", I asked. "They do that in the second half of the year." was the response. (that has since changed, I've been told). I talked to the head of volunteer work later that day so this kid could get his hearing tested.
Talk to a teacher and you'll hear much more shocking stories....

Re: “The Skinny

Nice try Debbie but women won't read abortion articles. Too much heartache.

Way more interest in red light cameras than children.

Re: “Danehy

Great article that caused me to remember 1970, when my younger son was born and it was the last year that the corporate and wealthy takers paid their fair share of American Taxes. It was the start of the great middle class wage reduction and the demise of organized labor as a force promoting equity in our capitalist society.

Re: “Take the Power Back

This is exactly what happens when citizens do not trust their politicians. Each individual neighborhood is try to wrestle the power away from centralized government.

Re: “Of Men and Wolves

Why can't we call it the Arizona wolf or the US wolf? Mexico has a terrible record with this animal.

Re: “Of Men and Wolves's not critics that say there should be 750 wolves for a self-sustaining population, it's SCIENCE.

And while the author spends an inordinate amount of time describing conflicts between wildlife and cattle, she fails to even acknowledge the enormous support both the Mexican wolf program in particular and the Endangered Species Act that mandated their recovery enjoy with the populations of Arizona and New Mexico. Additionally, while public lands ranchers pay grazing fees, those fees fail to cover the high costs to the agencies to administer these programs. The privilege to use America's public lands for their private profit in no way gives them exclusive use or access to them - to expect our wild places be cleansed of the wildlife that belong there - like Mexican wolves - is simply beyond the pale.

Re: “Take the Power Back

I am sure that Romero and her neighborhood benefit from support of the people outside of their district to keep her in office, so what's good for that isn't good for the other?
Also, if I had a business in that area and now couldn't give a vote, maybe it's time to close that location and move elsewhere.

Re: “Doug Ducey and Andy Biggs: "Don't Tell Me What I Don't Want to Hear."

Guardians you have no focus. You have mentioned five different subjects but they all come back to blame. Instead of wasting time arguing with my, why don't you 1. Donate time and more money to public schools. 2. Volunteer to tutor those lower income kids and motivate them out of poverty. 3. Work on your reading comprehension

I never said education is a priority. My comment was after a college degree there may be no jobs here for them. That is why they leave with our much needed tax base. What can you do to bring jobs and growth to this community to help it flourish?

Re: “Take the Power Back

As owners of a business and another property in Barrio Hollywood, the Hernandez family got two votes...

So here a corporation is a person times 2? I thought they opposed businesses getting a vote. Why give them two, you can see exacttly what's going to happen.
