Re: “Brewer Calls Medicaid Vote "The Single Most Critical Policy Issue That Has Faced Our State in Years"

Her health care plan? Her plan was to watch poor people die. The only reason she's trying to expand Medicaid now is that the Feds are picking up the tab.

Re: “A Rather F—king Timely Note on Swearing

I have been swearing, sometimes uncontrollably for the last 55 years or so. I am 60. There are times when public swearing bothers me like when I am at the zoo with my grand kids and people let the F-Bombs drop. Once when my cute little innocent daughter was about 3 or 4 she politely asked that someone "pass the goddamn catsup please". My wife shot me a dirty look that would have shattered plate glass. I hadn't said a thing (for a change). I like the RANGE and TUCSON WEEKLY for it's information and general politics, but sometimes when difficult topics are discussed (especially gun control etc) it seems to undermine strong and intelligent logic when F-Bombs or other swear words are used. When intellect and logic or truth are used to make a cogent point, swear words, vulgarities or name calling compromise the argument with unneeded emotion. Logic and truth are difficult to argue against, but one can always yell louder, or think of a more clever way to tell someone to fuck off. My wife never heard her father utter the F-word. I heard him say it only 3 times in his entire life, and each time it blew my mind. I had the utmost respect for him. He was the last of the culture of true gentlemen. How often and under what circumstances one uses powerful language has a lot to do with that words potency. Sometimes I dream nostalgically for a time when public decorum and gentlemanliness were characteristics of integrity and civility, but those days are past us, and I probably would not fit in that culture too well.

Wouldn't it be terrific if one of those big Wizard of Oz tornadoes took Saddlebrooke and spun it over to Iowa where it belongs.

I am a well educated fucking broad who can hang with the fucking boys one moment and have tea with the Queen of England the next. I am damn proud of who I am and don't give a shit what anyone else thinks of me.

Re: “Amy's Baking Company Says 'We Were Hacked!' Following Yesterday's Scorched Earth Campaign

They were hacked at some point. Look at the captions of their facebook photos on their page. The descriptions were written by hackers. "STOLEN PHOTOS, dog poop, and vomit" is one description.

Look at it and you will see what I mean.

Re: “Five Minutes of Gardening Makes a Big Difference - Especially in the Desert

This can be profoundly true. To me, the first task is to choose an aesthetic: what kind of plants make you feel really good when you work with them? In all seasons, try to work partly in the shade (at least have a nearby shady spot to rest in). And in summer, go slow and be sure to drink lots of electrolyted liquid. Doing this kind of work and watching the results as you go is literally a life-saver for ome of us.

Re: “'SF Chronicle' Calls Tucson Cool, So It's Time to Abandon the City

As an escapee from Portland, I would Tucson is not "Portland without the rain".

Tucson is Portland without the rain and without the self righteous know-it-alls.

If this indeed happens it will be a long-awaited miracle.

Re: “The National Gun Death Rate is Two-Thirds That of Arizona's

Even though Tucson is kind of the "liberal "bastion for the state of Arizona, it is getting harder and harder to live here. For years, much of the retirement and resort business came from North-easterners that regarded Arizona a "hip" place. That is rapidly changing, the people in that corridor are more and more starting to regards Arizona as kind of a "Alabama with Cactus" kind of place where "Yahoo's Rule" . Our lawmakers and the "pro-gun", anti-abortion" and "anit-imigration" forces in Maricopa County that dominate our state government, along with our "national embarrassment" governor, are scaring away the businesses and talent that could help Arizona grow in a positive way.

Re: “Flake's Background-Check Problem

How about Flip Flop Flake? There is a nice alliteration. And it might be constructive if it helps to get him out of the office he barely won in the last election. More guns for everyone and more money wasted for useless border security are the politics of fear. And you know how Mexicans are laughing at our fear of them.

Re: “The UA Commencement Ceremony Was Bananas

I disagree that they have reached the end of the road. They are just beginning their journey and while it is not without possible pitfalls and problems, having a college education is a definite plus with regard to jobs and life in general.
Congratulations to all. May your life be filled with wonder and joy.

Re: “The Amy's Baking Company Saga Is Only Going to Get Weirder

from the episode of kitchen nightmares and watching the way they treated their customers I'm surprised there hasn't been any law suits yet, if I was the guy on the show who ordered a pizza waited over a hr and then was told to pay and leave without never getting any food, when he argued his point sammy pushed him, no owner of a resturant should ever put their hands on a customer unless they are protecting themself or another employee, if he put his hands on me like that the police would've been called sammy would've stayed the night in jail and we would be going through the court system right now.

Re: “The Amy's Baking Company Saga Is Only Going to Get Weirder

I would bet all the money in the world that every last person attending this "sold-out" event are friends, family and supporter's of this restaurant. No self-respecting PR firm would allow them to let even one single person they don't know and trust into this event that is supposed to shine a redeeming light on this train wreck!

Re: “The Amy's Baking Company Saga Is Only Going to Get Weirder

I would love to see the "Chef Amy" demonstrate for the press at to how "she" makes all her great desserts -- made fresh daily according to their website. THEN have her multi-talented hubby -- internet security expert AND world class photgrapher -- set up the food photography. After all, and as he said, Amy made that beautiful food, and he shot the "pictures." THEN, people like Martha Stewart "stole them."
And to all those who have made reservations for the "Re-Grand Opening" -- HERE'S AN IDEA: When your bill arrives, pay with a credit card, and Note the Tip line as "Cash Tip" -- and hand your server their tip directly. Then sit back and watch Sammy melt down.

This is the link to the petition that is spreading like wildfire to get the Dept of Labor to investigate and hold ABC accountable for theft. Please sign, every single signature means getting closer to some kind of justice for the current and ex workers of this business.
