I'm afraid the winners are 100 percent reader decided, though we do encourage readers to support local business—in their Best Of voting and otherwise.
Az/DC: The printer we used to print Best Of missed their deadline, and the papers are late because we were holding them until we got BoT to insert. Sadly, we're still waiting for them to arrive. We eventually had to send the papers out without Best Of. The papers should have started showing up in racks this morning.
We do have a small number of Best Ofs available at our office. Best Of will (I'm told) be inserted in next week's paper. We're disappointed and we know our readers are, too.
We posted this announcement on the Range yesterday: http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archi…
Had the pleasure of working on stage with Joe many years ago. He's a master at what he does, and a thoroughly nice person, too.
Why is there no print version available in the places I usually (and not usually) go to get one? I tried Bookmans on Grant, eegee's locations on Campbell & on Tucson Blvd. & the box y'all got at Speedway & Norris. (On the NE corner of Aloft's parking lot.) WTF? Are your distributors on strike?
One might assume this issue is so popular that it has disappeared from these areas already because of popular demand, until they notice several issues of last weeks issue (in all but one location) in the box.
Please respond. DC
Michaels us a National Branded Big Box store. Is this not a local contest. Best of contest has become a big disappointment to all who vote and shop at local small businesses. Looking at winners it makes me sad that some of these people were picked when Gem and Mineral show is not a jeweler, it a event , best framing -Michael's should not be in mix. You should really only pick local shops.
Uh, President Bill Clinton ate at Mi Nidito in 1999, and sworn into his first term in 1993.
THANK YOU, TUCSON!
All of us here at Ordinary Bike Shop really, really appreciate the nod.
well deserved! congrats!
Oy, sorry. Even I had to like that. Thanks, Second Fiddle.
I bet Gabby will get a good laugh at her competition in this one!!
Love Joe Cooper and he deserves to be recognized as one of the funniest actors in Tucson. A very funny guy with a great sense of humor. He would probably find this recognition very funny since he hasn't acted at the Gaslight in over a year. That's right, the best actor in Tucson didn't grace any Tucson stage in 2015. It must be a very Tucson thing to get an award for being the best at something you didn't even show up for.
Really? You had to add that snarky comment at the end? All of the employees at Pima have been working so hard for the last couple of years to restore our great institution, and this is the thanks we get? What is it about you hacks that makes you unable to focus on one of our many positives for just a moment? I don't see this kind of poor treatment for any of the other "Best Of" winners.
"Viola, we had our theme."
After the first violin, of course.
What's a public relations restaurant blog?
As someone with quite a bit of insight said, "It's kind of like voting for Tucson Meet Yourself for best restaurant!" And it's true! Everyone who has previously won has been a shop. The Tucson Gem and Mineral Show is an event. Reality is that someone with a shop works hard to keep that shop open for us year-round.
Not to denigrate the work it takes to organize a huge event like TGMS, but they are only in town for a certain time, then you have to wait for next year. Or go to the next gem show in another locale. Which kinda ignores the purpose of Best of Tucson. The shop-owners of Tucson deserve better!
I would just love to know how many of the readers who voted for mirival... Have actually been... Or know exactly where it is... Not a place you can just walk off the street to enter... We as consumers should be supporting the little local guys... Not CORPORATIONS... Isn't that what the weekly is all about... Highly dissapointed... I voted for greentoes...
I cannot believe that people picked Tucson Gem & Mineral show when they are not local. All the mom and pop stores and this is what they get, What a shame
Thank You TUCSON for voting HiEndTight YOUR best Barberhshop . We strive to make sure everyone leaves feeling like a million bucks without having to spend it. I guess it goes to show, you don't have to have the highest prices to PROVE you provide The Highest QUALITY of services.
V's Barshop Tucson is hands down best barbershop.
For country music it's the Maverick on E. Tanque Verde near Grant. Club Congress is small and sweaty in summer. Lots of different types of music many nights. The occasional shows outside can be fun near winter.
