Re: “The Skinny

As a less-than-wealthy parent who, nevertheless, would like to send my kids to decent schools, please accept my thanks for making me aware of this program.

Re: “Diane Douglas Got Trumped. And DeVosed. And Maybe Duceyed. And It's a Damn Shame.

The data releases are very selective. I asked for data, fairly simple request, and was referred to the PIO. He was very cheerful and said my request was for good information, let me see if I can get it and call you back. Never heard a call back. I called again, asked for him personally, left a message, never heard a word. It probably was inconvenient data regarding teacher shortages, numbers, and certification requests, and temporary certifications. It was for Statewide bulk data not individual information. Not a call back ever. I found the numbers through other more difficult sources that certainly revealed the extent of the teacher shortage and the extent of the certification problems for international and out of state teachers. But Douglas's office either can't compile it, or found it inconvenient to give it out. Is data only selectively give out to support a predetermined agenda?

Re: “The Skinny

What would you know about IQ?

Your IQ dips into the negatives.

It is not, and it will never be your decision, unless it's your child.

If your simple mind can't comprehend that, there is no hope for you.

But hey, it's alright, you lost hope years ago.

Quit making the personal business of others your own.

Re: “The Skinny

Then I'm correct ac, dc, you don't have the mental capacity to answer the question nor the intellectual integrity.

I'll repeat it for you.

How many of those children with beating hearts make it out alive?

I'll even give you the answer because obviously it's way past your IQ.

Re: “The Skinny

I answered your question.

It's NONE of your business when it comes to abortion. Unless it's your child.

It's between a woman and her doctor, sometimes the father in special circumstances.

What would you know about a beating heart anyways? Your heart obviously stopped frozen cold years ago.

Beat it and take your fake Christianity with you.

Re: “Danehy

So you're advocating the kidnapping and beating of a fourteen year old girl ("catch her outside, beat her sorry ass,"), wishing for the theft of public property ("I've been hoping that a frat house at the UA would steal it and put it in their backyard,") and looking forward to the violent death of an Arizona State Senator and a young person ("I sincerely, really, really hope that while Lovas is out driving around and texting someday that he gets crashed into by a young driver who is doing the same thing.")

Happy Good Friday and Easter Sunday, Mr. Danehy.

retrorv - "I thought you were against using tax dollars to underwrite private ventures."

Have no clue where you got that. Governments are by far the least efficient organizations to deliver services.

Lots of trigger words in your post so let me interpret for you.

"Rich parents..." You really mean white people. And I can see why you're scared to death by that. When it comes to Sunnyside and TUSD that would mean you might as well be in Nogales, MX.

Not your choice Wrong, Again.

The choice is between a woman and her doctor.

Get a hobby and quit harassing people which you have no business to harass.

Only in liberal la-la land Tucson, 5th poorest in the country.

Was there an environmental study for the Great Wall of China?

Re: “The Skinny

I'm liberal on most issues, but I don't get why most liberals are against vouchers. The state is still funding education, they are just allowing the funding to be used by different schools. Given that the U.S. spends more on public education per pupil than most developed nations (yet has less to show for it), I don't see much of a downside to seeing if private schools can make better use of the money. If it turns out that they do a good enough job that some public schools shut down because the students that used to go there are getting a better education, isn't that a win for everybody?

Re: “In 13 Years, Every Private School and Home-Schooled Student Could Have a Voucher

Nope, I don't buy it. I bought it four years ago, when I fell hook line and sinker for TUSD's propaganda about how all their problems were the result of the mean Republicans and their draconian funding cuts. And then I watched TUSD for closely for four years while one of my children was enrolled in it. Yes, the funding is insufficient, but in the humble opinion of someone who has watched the Board meetings and taken an interest in policy implementation and funding allocations on a few of the school sites, the district has also been poorly administered and the funding available to it has not uniformly and competently been applied for the benefit of students. Until the district is effectively reformed -- if at this point it CAN be reformed, which many who have had extended contact with it have good reason to doubt -- (again, my humble, but experience-based OPINION) students do need to get out of it. And they shouldn't be penalized financially for recognizing a sinking ship for what it is. Nor should they be disparaged by a political party that is supposed to effectively DEFEND, not disparage and insult, the working class.

If you don't know ... what I do is always ask first if I am interviewing someone who is transgender or genderqueer. I always ask what pronouns "they" prefer. "They" is great, but if someone tells me specifically what "they" prefer, that's what I go with.

Re: “In 13 Years, Every Private School and Home-Schooled Student Could Have a Voucher

Lets be straight here. Public schools are falling behind in red states because they don't fund them fully. Period. You can point to national statistics that show privet elementary schools charge on average about the same as what we spend on public schools in red states but those figures are very misleading. Many, if not most are religious schools that subsidize half the bill. Public schools are what in the private world would be called 'Day Schools'. They tend to spend 15,000$-30,000$ per student while we spend here in AZ 7,2500-7,500$ per student. I'd say it's pretty clear you can't get a 15,000$ education result for 7,500$. So when you say our schools are failing, yeah, it's obvious why. . .…

I love the way you dismiss the poor. They deserve access to the best education. And by the way, this term "a traditional public school," has been replaced with, another failing public school.

Re: “Rep. Grijalva Sues Trump Administration Over Border Wall

Any balanced discussion of this issue should include consideration of the environmental costs of an unsecured border:

- Migrants and smugglers dump an estimated 2,000 tons of trash and human waste in the borderlands every year - most of it in areas where it is very difficult to remove. (See

- Migrants and smugglers had cut an estimated 1300 miles of wildcat trails in the borderlands as of 2006. (See…).

-Moreover, illegal aliens and smugglers regularly set wildfires, both to summon aid or to distract CBP, destroying hundreds of acres of vegetation a year. In fact, migrants are suspected of causing many of southern Arizona's most devastating fires of the last few years (Horseshoe 2, Monument, etc.). (See…).

Would a wall have some environmental impact? Sure. But so would doing nothing. Let's try to keep some perspective on both sides of the issue.
