Re: “Miss O'Dell

I looked forward to this book. And then I read it. It's full of inaccuracies on the Rolling Stones 1972 tour. And what really is sad is Chris naming the rock stars she slept with. What's even more disingenuous is remarking that Bianca Jagger was frosty towards her when Bianca joined the tour for a few days in late June. Honey, you were BONKING her husband! You think she couldn't tell? Bianca's brilliant. I could have done without the Kiss n Tell, Miss O'Dell...

Re: “South By

I grew up in Tucson playing music then moved to and played music in Seattle, San Diego, LA, Phoenix, Austin and have now returned to Tucson. I've played SXSW over 11 times from each city I've lived in.

I don't think it's reasonable to say because it's called SXSW there should be more artists from the SW. You have to remember Austin is only 500 miles away from New Orleans. When you live in or travel to Austin it feels more southern than southwestern, but it's still in TX and I think most who haven't been there think of it as the SW. So the name SXSW is more of a play on perception of region.

You also have to remember this isn't the SXSW of 20 years ago. They have built this into a international event, with bands attending from around the world as well as the US. So 14 bands representing Tucson and Phoenix is actually a great representation. I'd rather see 10 or 14 good bands representing the state or region than 35 average bands. Quality over quantity. Now I'm sure there are 35 good bands in the region but again SXSW is a international event and there are only so many slots available. I think the beauty of the event is seeing a small sample of bands from all over the US and world.

Re: “The Tall Paul Band: Sleeper (Self-released)

I agree. The only reason this guy ever played with anyone he mentions us because he dated an awesome booking agentin Tucson, AZ. He is a nobody.

Re: “Sands of Time: Giant Sand

Howe is a Tucson classic and a fine true artist. His music has meaning and is interesting to listen to. Totally original. And the lyrics do more than repeat themselves like so many successful music writers write. This says something about the people who listen to his music and about himself . More poetry than product. Thanks Howe.

Re: “Look Within and Grow: Las Cafeteras

So wait, why are we supposed to support a band that exhibits actions of "misogyny, silencing and suppressing the women in the band"?

Re: “Attractive Nuisance #1: The Raiders

Excellent review, but as you pointed out, not the definitive album of this act. Go to any of the mid-1960s gems--primarily "Spirit of '67"--and that IS what Paul Revere and the Raiders really were. The "Indian Reservation" single's success was completely out of left field, Columbia was starting to carefully nurture Mark Lindsay's solo career--which pretty much fizzled, save a few decent singles--and I think the Raiders were a bit of an afterthought when this single and album came out. But the strength of the single bought them a couple more years at Columbia and as an entity that at least had to be listened to. But that aside, this is a "Raiders" LP, not a "Paul Revere and the Raiders" LP, and quite frankly, it suffers in comparison with those great records this act put out from 1965-1967. Not a bad effort, mind you, but not the one (Paul Revere and the) Raiders album you would want as a "desert island" disk.

Re: “Sands of Time: Giant Sand

To the Weekly--It was disappointing to see the in print cover stating, "Giant Sand--Quits".
I'd say, if anything, Howe Gelb and company are persevering. I'm sure this was an oversight, but please do try and have more thoughtful awareness about your use of language.

Re: “Sands of Time: Giant Sand

Sometimes someone who loves music and is determined to live his life doing the thing he loves has a 30 year career doing just that. What a joke.

Re: “Sands of Time: Giant Sand

Sometimes people with no real music talent fool everybody and catch on. Gelb is one of those.
What a joke.

Re: “Fully Developed: Lake Street Dive

Saw them at a festival. They got the crowd up and moving....for the exits.
Don't waste your $$$. They do the same tune over and over or at least it sounds that way.

Re: “B-Sides: TKMA Bob Dylan Benefit

The only positive things Dylan ever did for music was introduce weed to The Beatles and somehow (?) inspire Jimi Hendrix. If Neil Young, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seeger or Eric Clapton didn't exist, he might be the most overrated musician of all time.
