Classic ?? It's insipid. Hilarious though it's not supposed to be. The vocals suck and the production is poor. Sounds like it was recorded in a barn. Get real.
Are you gonna do an article about Refill?
I totally understand your point, victorb, but "layered guitar tracks" is three words whereas "thicker guitar" is only two. Hence the metaphor. Word limits are a bitch.
Clearly? I think the statement would be more clear if it stated what you just did, tucsonmusic. Thicker guitar could refer to the use of a baritone guitar etc. So why not just say "fuller sounding" guitar or "layered guitar tracks"?? Not a good review, not even by tweekly standards.
The phrase "pure pop bliss" can still be used if it's accurate, and it's far less annoying than "pray tell." And a "thicker guitar" clearly refers to layered guitar tracks. Wonderful review, Annie!
Great review! I can't wait to see Redlands at the show this Saturday!!
Shouldn't the phrase "pure pop bliss" be on the list of forbidden words and phrases for 2010? And what, pray tell, is a "thicker guitar?"
This was an excellent review until the last sentence which was juvenile and completely unecessary.
Banhart is loooovely. Caught him and his band live in London, they're a sweet live act. Found a cool review of the show here http://tiny.cc/1ctIs . anyone seen him live?
Myrtle, your comment is a great example of an ad hominem argument. Why not attack the ideas in Ms. Holub's review instead of attacking the writer?
I thought the review was fairly straightforward, though there were a couple of somewhat paradoxical statements toward the end. For someone who hasn't heard this album, the review gives me a decent sense of what it sounds like. I'll probably steer clear of this one, as I'm not a huge fan of classic rock, or of Queens of the Stone Age.
your crummy review makes almost no sense. you've been writing for the weekly for a while now. shouldn't writers get better over time?
I think you've given this turd a little more credit than it deserves. And the social criticism in this album is about as pointed and credible as that Beverly Hills song they had a while back that you can still hear in TJ Maxxx. This doesn't even pass the greasy hipster I-like-it-ironically-hurr standards. Way more painful than fun.
I hope your gonna have a new post for Relapse 2 soon :)
Impressive! This is from nearly four months ago. Glad to know our archives are being read!
Thank you for pointing out the typo. It has been corrected.
okay, no name calling at all but isn't it aftermath/interscope not aftermatch...
Aren't these comment supposed to be about the music review, not the reviewer?
How telling that Ms. Peashock would be less than impressed with anything that doesn't laud the if it feels good, do it frame of mind.
