I didn't read Jim's article as indicating that he or the Weekly were "Defending anti-choice politicians". I did see the presentation of a couple of people in the media that seemed to be doing the defending -by finding merit in Trent Frank's utterances. I personally appreciated being able to read their remarks ~know your enemy, I always say.
I do have to say that reading anything about those self-appointed priests of the modern inquisition is an unpleasant experience. Individually, they give me the creeps, and collectively they make my blood boil.

You're right, Jim, this legislation is the worst thing since the 1965 disaster, and, of course, if that hadn't happened, neither could this. If this passes, America will become a third world welfare state in a matter of months.

Thank you, Jan the Head, for doing the right thing. I haven't always agreed with you or with Obamacare in principle, but I believe this legislation will help alleviate our state's healthcare woes.

I was told 20 years ago that AZ wouldn't ban c*ckfighting until Kemper Marley was in hell. Marley was the man that the bomber said hired him to do the job. His name was also attached to the largest c*ckfighting event in Arizona.

What exactly are Mayor Rothchild and Regina Romero hiding? We already know they have been dealing with this issue for one year. Romero admitted this much to the AZ Daily Star. Why the secrecy? Why not release these public records and let the voters, the taxpayers of Tucson decide if our elected officials are serving our interests of if they need to be removed from office? Very simple math here folks. We want to review the public records, that's all. What is the City Council hiding?

Read Don Bolles: an Investigation Into His Murder by Martin Tailberg. It's a fascinating account of the corruption that Mr. Bolles was looking into. There's also the Investigative Reporters and Editors book that was published about corruption ion AZ after his death. Sadly, nothing much permanent resulted from the shit storm over Don Bolles' death. the governor's office and state legislature are still full of right-wing hacks eager to line their pockets and accumulate power for themselves and their cronies.

I hadn't heard of him before. 1976 was the year I turned eighteen. I wasn't paying as much attention to the news as I was focusing on being able to drink legally for the very first time.

It should be concerning to all constituents within city limits that the Mayor and Council operated regarding this plan in a manner that usurps the tenets of democracy: it was driven by mostly one person (that we know of), it trampled on community input, it was false and misleading (some golf courses being preferred), it tried to pit groups against others (lip service to community cohesion), it patently continues to falsely state that GCU will bring many jobs to our sector (they bring in their own people), and no mention that there is an attempt at the State Legislature that GCU will get a tax-exempt status while slurping up all kinds of city services that we have to absorb. It is further insultive that the very site offered up for sacrifice is the very symbol of what makes Tucson the dynamic community that it is: a strong, proud collective of leaders who stand up for what is right, and that is what the Baldenegros are all about! It was extremely disrespectful of Romero and others to treat as expendable a community that is strongly Mexican American.

Jamie, one of the worst decisions ever made in TUSD was to centralize the control of heating and cooling. In other words it can't be controlled by the individual schools. It has resulted in schools with rooms that are freezing cold right next to rooms that will blister your skin with heat. In order to shut down the AC at a school it must be done from a central location and someone must order that to happen. Hopefully that someone will realize that in order to begin saving money those school systems must be shut down. Of course if it was controlled in the individuals schools the custodian could have done it when he left on the last Friday, assuming of course he was one of those custodians who was willing to help because he knew what his fate was in the future of TUSD.
