Harlan Thomas:
Mr. Arce just insulted me. Mexican profanity. That's the level he is at. Guess that is what he teaches and what people pay him for.

Re: “Marvelous Miz

Excellent production... Have seen performances of Les Miserables in Phoenix, Chicago (twice), New York, and ...Madrid, in Spanish.
Kudos to AO for putting this ensemble together, they and the cast are a credit to Tucson and our arts scene. AO is also to be commented for the community out reach that they do, especially noted, the complementary and free tickets they give to expand their future audience. Mr. Aguirre does have a bass voice as noted, a true baritone would have probably been more what is generally called for in this role. However, he did an admiral rendition, dramatic, forceful, colored, convincing. Would love to see him in a traditional bass role.
Unfortunate, the production run was short, the performance was SOLD OUT, I understand contractual and production cost limitations, ...but, it could have easily run TWICE as long.

Re: “Question of the Day: Jon Justice Facebook Edition

One has to remember some of Jon Justices most famous/infamous guests, the now in jail founder of the minute men on charges of child molestation, the former state senate president who hob knobbed with the late Neo-Nazi commander who killed himself and 4 others in a murder suicide, one a infant! Anyone but me remember the mysterious caller he had who claimed to be a criminal gun runner? Did he report the fellow to law enforcement or was this one of his shills he uses quite often to bolster his show with controversy?

Re: “Question of the Day: Jon Justice Facebook Edition

Jon Justice the fellow who migrated to Tucson after leaving Michigan over a drowned dog hoax scandal which cost him a job there! I guess some see his comments humor, some see them racist and others are neutral! I guess it depends on how one sees the world, how one sees other people "not like themselves"! Racism is not a color, race, culture, social economic status, religion but a mental attitude of "my kind is better than yours"! Using that gauge a racist makes themselves what they are by what they say and write!

This particular source of racism in Tucson is supported by advertising dollars paid to the Journal Broadcast Group. If enough Tucsonans insist on supporting businesses that advertise elsewhere, it will come to an end.

Re: “Militarizing Cities, Criminalizing Schools

Harlan - do you want the etymology of the word "Pendejo," or a loose translated descriptor?

Sean arce
What is that word that you used "Pendejo". Is that the MAS language that you teach? Me thinks that you are part of the problem NOT part of the solution.

Yes by all means get the cars off the road. How about stables at both ends to rent a horse. And some jackass for the city clowncil , farley and gihalva to ride.

Re: “City to Address Streetcar Gridlock & Rider Delays Following 2nd Saturday Troubles

This is the predictable consequence of having a "light rail" system compete with cars in regular lanes of traffic. That setup cancels the advantages of light rail as a mode of transportation. The other model (as a previous writer notes) is something like S.F.'s cable cars, cute and historic. This system fits neither model.

As many have observed, closing at least part of Congress to cars, permanently, could be a significant step toward rationalizing the streetcar (after the fact).

Re: “Militarizing Cities, Criminalizing Schools

So those MAS students would only do well if they go through your program? So no hispanic students did well until you showed up? What arrogance.
"Systemic racism" what nonsense. Hispanic students make up 62% of TUSD population. So who is oppressing them. The Korean, Indian,Jewish kids sure don't need any prompting to do well. It starts at home.
Hispanic students who wanted to do well didn't need your class 70 years ago or 50 years ago. Tucson is filled with those people. I know I have worked with them. This may come as a shock and surprise to you but kids did well before you arrived.
And watch the news tonight. I will bet that you don't see those Korean, Indian or Jewish kids on the nightly crime stories. They are too busy at home doing homework.

Re: “Militarizing Cities, Criminalizing Schools

Sal B - you got that anxiety that I mentioned above. I am employed by school systems all over the country, as a professional educational consultant, Pendejo. Disproportionate crime is a result of systemic racism that is perpetuated in the schools. Are you telling me something new that Whites do not want to live by Mexicans??? Computer science, engineering, medicine and highly developed analytical writing skills are all had by students who have gone through the former Chicana/o Studies classes. That is why folks like you were sure to eliminate it, too many smart Chicana/o kids that run circles around folks like you.

Re: “Militarizing Cities, Criminalizing Schools

Mr. Acre:
I sure hope that you are not employed in ANY school system. I challenge you to read the crime stats for Tucson. There are some FACTS and RESEARCH. Hispanics create crime way far above their population in Tucson. That number is 42%. The Anglos have voted with their feet. Their kids just don't want to go to school with your kids. And they buy homes to stay away from you.
Go ahead and teach your MAS drivel. The human resources manager for major companies don't give a flying F### if they had your MAS classes. They care about computer science, engineering, writing skills etc etc.
Pathetic.

Sal B - schools produce inequality and oppress students of color. all you have to do is look at the research
