Re: “Is Skepticism About High Stakes Testing Reaching a Tipping Point?

My bad. I refer to it as Moist Children LEFT Behind.

I guess that you have all now had a chance to find out that Common Core was not written by state governors. It was written by lobbyists paid by Bill Gates.

Thus the total dependence on computer training.

Corporate whores.

Re: “Danehy

james25ua, so, how do you get around town if you don't drive on any roads that have merge (drop) or trap lanes? do you also only ever make right turns so you don't have to ever make a left turn?

It sounds like it is YOUR problem, not theirs. YOU get angry, YOU can't stand that they act morally and spiritually wrong and rudely too. but that's YOUR problem, because legally, they're right.

breathe dude. drop it down a notch, leave 15 (45 since you don't make lefts) minutes earlier, and you'll find your stress levels go way down and you'll, hopefully, live longer too.

Re: “Is Skepticism About High Stakes Testing Reaching a Tipping Point?

It was NCLB, Rat, not MCLB. That program was a compromise between George Bush and Ted Kennedy and was praised by many as a bi-partisan effort to improve education by those who are not educators. Turned out they were wrong. A lot of educators were skeptical at the beginning, and as it developed, we called it "No Child Left Untested."

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

I must comment in the interest of fairness that the few issues I have taken directly to Dr. Sanchez have been addressed. Not always to my satisfaction but attempts have been made to resolve the issues and some have been successful. Where the Dept. of Ed is concerned, they have been a circus on various occasions stretching back many decades. Right now, they are approaching a peak because of the split and civil war being waged in the Republican Party. As observers, we can laugh or we can cry. Laughing is better for our mental health. Douglas had a record of public behavior on the Peoria School Board. Who was expecting something different? Is she better than Huppenthal? At least she isn't spending her days (yet) beating up on TUSD and Mexican-American students. I view this as a plus. Very glad I voted for the other guy. Pity more people didn't.

Re: “Media Watch

Take off the KOLD Cheerleader sweater and put down the Pom Poms, Shoe.

KOLD hasn't been "...a consistent No. 1 in the market ..." for more than a year which is why you haven't referenced the local Nielsens for even longer than that.

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

The TUSD stats site which was so informative to the public, no longer exists. Now, I hear parents can't even access it? I'm sure that's part of HT's plan. FYI, the stats guru at TUSD is no longer in that position, although he still works for the district. People should take those letters from administrators seriously, because a good deal of the information in them is true.

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

You are absolutely right Equal Opportunity AZ Political Entertainment. None of the actors at the state level or in TUSD should be off offhandedly dismissed as bad jokes. This is serious business, even more so because the same bad actors are re-reelected in each election cycle - by the Republicans at the state level and the Democrats locally. I appreciate your comment.

Re: “Gender Pay Gap: Tucson in the Shit List, According to an Analysis

In reading the numbers, Tucson is actually better than the number two city, in the percentage earned by women compared to men. The WHOLE point of the story anyway......Once again....STUPID LIBERALS!!!

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

The district's data management program, TUSD Stats, is being rebuilt and is currently not delivering accurate and updated data to parents. The problems are projected to continue throughout this school year. Is that funny?

What's the excuse for not getting what needed to be done with the district's data management system done before the school year began?

David, here's a way to make yourself truly useful: give Adelita a call and find out for us. Surely she knows, being as well informed about every detail of the district's business as she has been for the past decade and more....

Re: “Sun Tran Strike: Day 20, Another Route is Added to Limited Bus Service

Actually, I am hoping they stay on strike. My reasons you might ask? 1. I caught the #17 bus headed S from Grant Rd to Speedway Blvd one evening after getting out of class. The bus driver had shit himself, and when I gagged from the smell, he had the audacity to bitch did I want to ride. Seriously like he was going to throw me off right there. I can tell you I did not answer not wanting to breathe, slid my dollar in and went to the back of the bus; where by the way every other passenger was packed tighter than a can of sardines and sat down. That was the longest mile in my life. 2. The stops in this town are not coordinated and it is bad enough that on an application or at an interview if you put down or say you rely on the bus as transportation; you will not get the job. 3. I am hoping that a company steps up to the plate and offers ride share to businesses that the employees have to rely on broken down equipment, rude drivers, and a mass of homeless or just beggars at every stop, just to get to work. 4. When you must plan on leaving 2 hours in advance to get anywhere on time in this city riding Sun Tran, well I think that speaks for itself.

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

BrianClymer - But do you know enough about TUSD to know what Safier's "commentaries on public education" leave out? If not, you're missing an essential piece of "what is happening to public education in Arizona," which involves mismanagement at BOTH the state AND the local level.

Rick Spanier - Parents with children enrolled in these schools don't find any of this funny. As someone who has to deal with the results of politicians' and administrators' incompetence, I don't find any of this -- the TUSD Board and Superintendent, Ducey, the Board of Education, Diane Douglas -- to be a laughing matter. In my opinion, people who laugh at what is going on at any level of this state's "education" fiasco are deeply offensive and irresponsible.

Re: “The Skinny

Thanks for the mention, Jim. In addition to being a progressive blogger and activist, my day job is managing editor of the American Journal of Medicine. I filed my paperwork with the Secretary of State as a Clean Elections candidate this week. It's time to end the Tea Party's reign of terror and end government against the people. pam

Re: “Danehy

My Most Honourable Tom, the Forest Service does indeed let many fires burn to clear out old dead brush and buffelgrass, as long as they're not endangering property. It let two fires we had in the Pusch Ridge area burn themselves out for this reason, and also because they were in remote areas. Same for that recent fire near Corona De Tucson, even though it had to fight the northern flank because it was getting too close to homes. To be sure, rain helped all these fires from getting out way out of hand. Many fires --especially small ones -- in remote parts of Arizona are managed, not fought, "to accomplish resource objectives," as the FS likes to say.

Here's an interesting fact, via the Wildfire Today blog: "Only natural ignitions may be managed for resource benefit objectives,” said Holly Kleindienst, the Kaibab’s [National Forest] deputy fire staff officer. “Human caused starts must be suppressed according to the Forest Service’s 2009 Guidance for Implementation. From 1970 to present, lightning accounts for about 75% of the 150 wildfires that start on the Kaibab each year. Our supporting Forest Plan, and community support, coupled with plenty of lightning are the reason that the Kaibab has been able to treat an average of 11,000 acres per year with lightning caused wildfires since 2003,” she continued."

Re: “News21: America’s Weed Rush

I guess it about time to start organizing my old friends in the Rancho Visto, Oro Valley, Green Valley, Del Web communities, We need to start picketing the dispensaries that support MMP's proposal. I haven't done this since 1967 and
"Hey Hey LBJ how many kids did you kill today with high altitude bombing" LBJ was the first not Nixon. I guess we could chant " Hey Hey MMJ Wont go away as we picket the dispensaries"

Let the police just try and handle these medical dependent in so many ways patients trying to keep their rights. It will make the news

Re: “Here I Go, Defending Diane Douglas Again

I totally disagree w/ "Supporting Public Ed". David Safier's commentaries on public education are very incisive and thoughtful. I look forward to reading them because they give me more insights in what is happening to public education in Arizona.
