Its amazing that Safier can so easily recognize a pile of steaming BS when it comes to our President and our Governor, but not our recently "resigned" Superintendent of TUSD schools, HT Sanchez. He is right that our Governor is no friend of education. Nonetheless, Sanchez called in a recent letter, for us all to congratulate Ducey on his desire to give all day kindergarten to ALL of our students--I guess despite Safier's misplaced support, Sanchez doesn't read his articles, like this one--http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archi… David makes it clear that ALL of our students are not represented in the governor's plan. In addition to misplaced support for Sanchez, I fear Safier's support for his so called "education community" is also misguided. His friends all supported and pushed through Proposition 123, promising that it would all be used for classrooms and teacher salaries (and then voted to put only a small percentage in that direction). Then they promised us that they'd be "watching those triggers" and making sure that there were steps 4,5 and 6. All I can say is that they must not have grandkids, not a one of them, because at the rate their support is taking us, there will BE no funding for public schools in the future, as the "principal" of the State Trust lands gets whittled away. With friends like these, as they say, who needs enemies?
McSally should know the reason there are problems with the ACA is that John Roberts let individual states refuse medicaid expansion, thereby devastating the insurance pool, and still the premiums were lower than before the ACA. They chipped away at it, including the insane decision that Hobby Lobby could refuse reproductive care in spite of the fact that they actually owned stock in those companies, and republicans spent upwards of $50 million trying to kill it instead of helping to fix it the way the democrats kept inviting them to do. She's quite the little leader, falling into line with the orange lemmings. Some leadership skills.
I'm guessing there is a slim chance Republicare will make it through the house. I'm betting it will be shot down in the senate. If these scenarios play out, the Trump administration and the Republicans in congress will become victims of a possibly paralyzing self-inflicted wound. Repeal and Replace made for a great rallying call during the campaigns but now, like so much of Trump's sturm und drang, reality steps in and the hard work of governing becomes the order of the day over endless campaigning and ego-inflating rallies.
The newest volume of the great American Tragedy is the specter of the opposition's (what remains of the Democratic Party) whimpering on the sidelines still dazed by the thrashings they've received in the latest presidential, congressional, gubernatorial and state legislative elections. Political heroes seem to be emerging but from the ranks of the Republican congress increasingly disgusted by the new administration and its anti-American actions, cabinet appointments, executive orders, proposed budgets and hare-brained legislation. We are in the privileged position of watching the two members of the American duopoly implode. The Democrats and Republicans will survive in some form but will continue to be drained of membership and together represent a minority of voters. That's when the fun begins.
"unwavering commitment to her constituents?" Hilarious.
Jewish American teen living in Israel arrested for JCC bomb threats, including the ones called in to the Tucson JCC. Trump vindicated. This entire thing is a hoax. Oy Vey!
Can't wait! Thanks to that POS Obama and his brainchild, my rate has increased 100% over the last 6 years.
He rarely shares his opinions regarding controversial topics, like the Muslum ban. I don't understand how the governor of a border state was able to remain silent on the topic. Called just about everyday and everyday he had not come up with an opinion? Seems like he's afraid of his shadow and is a definite yes man to Trump. Not impressed and disappointed with the people of Arizona for not demanding more.
Medicare withholding is 1.45% of you income. Employers match the 1.45 for a total of 2.90. So if Rick prepaid it he earned 24 million dollars in his earning years and has now used up all his prepayments? You folks really don't understand the math.
She won't get my vote again, nor will any politician who supports this assinine ACT. They are betting on the ignorance of their constituents who won't take the time to see how wrong this is. The Republicans are no where close to having their ACT together to take care of the public. If we have to accept what they do then they should have to live by the same rules, now that's a joke.
To those worrying about how many $85K procedures the government can pay for, please look closely at your paychecks. We are all paying for those, and Rick prepaid his proceedure with a lifetime of medicare deductions from his paycheck, matched by his employers' contributions. For those of us who are sel-employedm our payment is double (we pay both the employee half and the employer half).
Basic fundamentals should be part of any health care in this country. 1. Everyone should be covered, since every living human needs health care at some point in life. 2. Everyone should contribute to their health care, based on their ability to pay. 3. Everything essential to life should be covered, including preventative measures. 4. Elected plastic surgery is not covered. 5. Drugs must affordable.
That $85k procedure would cost less than $35k (or even less) in any other industrialized nation. These trolls can't see the forest for the Trees Rick!
Pharmaceutical companies spend 3 times as much money on advertising than they do on research!
There is so much unnecessary waste in our system. Health care cost were going up before Obama care at a higher rate than they were after Obama care, and people want to go back to that? Fuck that mess, fuck Obamacare and fuck Trumpcare. Non-profit is the only solution!
You can keep your healthcare plan.
You can keep your doctor.
You're premiums will go down $2500 per year.
McSally won her position by a slim margin. She must think her constituents are people from Phoenix because in Tucson that behavior will not fly. I don't really see her enjoying her job that much anyway so I refuse to feel sorry for someone siding with a traitor against the people that have employed her.
McSally is in peril of losing the 2018 election if she continues to link herself with President Trump. That "shout-out" did her NO favors.
Economic genocide anyone?
Yeah, but she lost the election last November. We are all better off.
I had a minute to think through the proposition of the government paying unlimited amounts of money to keep us alive. On the other hand every one that were to die prematurely would save Social Security a ton of money. I guess that explains that term "death squads." They are better of if we die.
I personally want to go back to a doctor that I choose that has a profit motive that helps keep me alive.
I'm going out on a limb here but when a politician runs on a platform of reining in the excesses of Wall Street while taking in tens of millions in campaign contributions and speaking fees from Goldman Sachs and assorted hedge fund managers, Bullshitting has been raised to an art form. But I digress....
Much to my chagrin but even the government (us) can't afford $85,000 procedures for very many for very long. Maybe they could open their own insurance company. Why not, our Social Security contributions are in a lock box. (LOL)
Tax payer trust is the biggest stumbling block for a good reason.
