Bah. The question about wrought-iron fences is interesting, and Gustavo just sidesteps it with some catchy verbiage about the border fence. There's got to be more to it than that. How about the structure of one's property in Mexico? How do people there delimit their space from their neighbors'? Is it a cultural transference that takes place within the limits of the existing US designs of residential property? I guess I shouldn't expect academic serious and deep detail from a humor column...but still!!!

I see nothing offensive about this column. In fact, I look forward to a weekly read of my Mexican stereotype friend lampooning other stereotypes to his heart's content. It's called a sense of humour, and if you have one I guarantee you'll live longer.

the truth that this vato( arellano)spews is a refreshing weekly column that i enjoy immensly.He is articulate and comical and right to the point.As to it being racist,is the furthest thing from the truth that anybody can accuse him of.So gabachos and pochos that dont agree with him? dont read his column.. period.

I find this weekly column very entertaining and comical, but of course very opinionated by the writer.
Perhaps if he is so gifted with his insight to ethnic problems he should run for president in 2012....that is if he is a legal natural born American citizen.

I like stores that have the speakers blaring loud music on streetfronts. Reminds me of life in Los Angeles, how much I loved living there, how much I want to move back.

First half kind of funny second half snivel snivel waste of electricity. Can't wait until the brown or half brown such as my self become a majority in AZ and people can bitch about something other than discrimination. Really most boil down to class war not race here in Tucson. I work hard, have 3 jobs, and make a good living so that means I took advantage of someone else right?

Well, Pupito, looks like you got your letter in, signed as "Not a pendejo". The Mexican could well have responded to the letter with your post here, but it wouldn't have been as funny or educational. That's why he gets paid to write and you don't.

I love the Raza studies plug. Can't call Mexican studies ethnic studies unless there is only one ethnicity. My Greatgrandmother was from mexico and grandfather was from spain. Strangely today I my wife and my new baby boy are all Americans. Don't know how that happenned oh wait my family worked to hard to care what lineage we belong to and focused on making a better life for ourselves and are family.

He thinks he is funny hah. I just had to cut and paste his answer about why he hates Guatemalans too. I love how he brings skin color into it. He doesn't seem to have a sense of humor over hate towards mexicans I notice.
It really must be an inferiority complex because all the Guatemalans I know don't hate anybody except maybe their own corrupt government. They put their heads down, work had, make their way and don't complain about their problems for the most part.

And the Guatemalans who do cross over dress funny, are darker-skinned than the average Mexican and don't like salsa! Guatemalans are the Mexicans of Mexico--and who doesn't hate Mexicans? "

I hate norteno music, after having it shoved in my ears as a kid. I'm pretty sure that's why el polaco's acquaintences of Mexican descent can't stand it either.
