I don't mean to be disparaging - I really enjoy and get most of my news from the Weekly. But the Newspaper Association hands out awards like the rest of us hand out Halloween candy! My local rag brought down a plethora of awards (as did every newspaper in AZ!) and I can hardly find an article in it worth reading in a month. And now that they have started charging to read it on the web, I'll be saving $9 and about six hours a month. But, I'll still get my news from the Weekly.
kudos to Jim and team. the award should be more like for "the decades of work" thanks for all the real investigative reporting you do... from helping clean up Amphi in the 90's, to this year and covering CD8. you ongoing work helps improve our community and region.
Tim Vanderpool is a great writer and reporter. And congratulations to the rest of the winners at the Weekly, clearly the best newspaper in Arizona.
Yeah. Irene really needs to work on hers.
Tim Vanderpool and I have awesome beards.
After the shameless sellout of most journalistic outlets in the '08 election, Journalism awards (in AZ and elsewhere) have jumped the shark as much as the Nobel Peace Prize has. I do suppose these awards mean more, as they were decided by people better than five Norwegian wankers. Well, congratulations then!
