Re: “Police Dispatch

I have to agree with Roxanne...not only does that put them DOWN people with mental illness if you are slow it makes them not to sure about getting help since you all decided to use it for laughs. As well as the problem of people with mental illness the local companies that are supposed to help the patients often just pass out drugs that are more harm then good. Not taking into consideration the side effects of each person and the family members of the patient. Many times when people use the world Crazy it puts people with mental illness further into the black hole. That makes the conditions worse and can result in suicide. Now the person that wrote that hope you feel like major crap. Ohh and make sure you understand that not only did you hurt people suffering from mental illness but families and family members suffering and coping with the change of that member. Hmmm I am SMHing Shaking My Head also saying No Ya Didn't and don't care if I have typos so there!!!

Re: “Police Dispatch

To my good friends at the Tucson Weekly,
As kind and gentle as you usually are, you continue to include these "humorous" Police Dispatches that belittle and degrade individuals with mental illness. Please stop. It's not funny; its extremely hurtful. Those I know and work with who live with mental illness suffer from enough self-doubt and self stigma. Many are living fulfilling and productive lives, and memories of their past actions while in a psychotic state still haunt them.
The man in your most recent Police Dispatch (distastefully titled Shitzophrenia) will likely come out of this episode of illness filled with shame. This is incredibly sad, because its not his fault. Knowing that others not only witnessed his actions but mocked them (and wrote about them in a weekly paper) only adds to this unnecessary shame and may be part of impeding his recovery.
Tucson Weekly, you know better. You have printed several articles promoting the respect and dignity of individuals with mental illness, many within the last year. About four years ago I was named a Local Hero for working with people recovering from mental illness at Our Place Clubhouse. Please stop making fun of people who are disabled, by mental illness or anything else. Its not funny; its destructive...and personally, I don't think it fits who you are. Thanks for listening.

Re: “Police Dispatch

Slumped over in your car with the keys in the ignition you can get charged, slumped over in your car without the keys in the ignition they can charge you but with a good lawyer you can beat the charge.

Re: “Police Dispatch

same thing holds true if you're high on any other drug, slumped over in your car -
parked along the curb or not.

OK...that makes sense. Thanks, Jimmy!

Re: “Police Dispatch

You do not have to be actually caught in the act of driving to be charged with DUI. If police have reason to suspect you WERE driving drunk (in "actual physical control" of the vehicle)--i.e., found on the side of the road, alone, with your vehicle--you can also be charged.

Re: “Police Dispatch

Yeah, Kynn, I thought exactly the same thing. I know if one is drunk and inside the car that's one thing. But according to the article:
"Deputies responding to a report of a "suspicious" parked car found it on the side of Ajo Way—with an obviously drunk man slumped against it."
I would think he could be arrested for "public intoxication" but not DUI.

Re: “Police Dispatch

Huh. Why'd he get a DUI if he was pulled over on the side of the road and not driving?

Re: “Police Dispatch

Also really tragic insight into the under belly and parts of our society and a really scary portrayal of what police officers have to deal with day in and day out - God love you!

Re: “Police Dispatch

To the gentleman in the second issue, I would say "Karma IS a bitch." So, why is it that the police needed to advise him to stop banging his head into the window? What was the problem??!?

Proverbs 20:1, "Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise."

Chapter twenty: verse one; get it? The legal drinking age...

Re: “Police Dispatch

My only question is what public service is served by taking the pot smoking man to jail unless he was the cause of the accident? I don't question the deputies' judgement, thank you deputies for the job you do. I question the laws that say if you possess so-called illegal drugs, you have to stay at the Pima County Jail at MY expense. Deputies should only take pot man to jail if he's disturbing the peace, otherwise let them seize bong and residue and issue a ticket for intoxication as you would a drunk person. No wonder our city, county, state, and federal govt are so broke and desperate. Send dealers to jail, not mere users causing no harm to themselves or others.
