If we completely evolve we will have sharia law and Friday beheadings. For whose benefit? keep your change to yourself.
Each generation has its protest, its struggle to be heard. Mine was the Vietnam War and, in parallel, civil rights for all citizens. These were clearly defined fronts, millions joined in spontaneously and change took over. I think the current LGBT movement is here to stay but it is more personal, more subtly nuanced, and needs careful explaining, with empathy. I hope for patience on both sides. The older and more "conservative" types really do need to evolve (still the best word imo) and reject their past opinions - not easy, especially at first. The young need to support changes in thinking without getting too aggressively PO'd at the rest of us.
PS: I wish the "Alphabet Soup" community would STOP comparing their movement to the Black Civil Rights movement! They are ENTIRELY different issues. I was born Black but there is NO scientific evidence that anyone is born gay! Also, homosexuality was never accepted among Blacks!
It's sad to see what's going on on college campuses today. The Left is certainly doing a number on young minds. I'm Black and I worked at the U of A about twenty years ago and I don't recall all this chaos. Is anyone learning ANYTHING in college these days other than how to whine and be a good little Socialist? These whining crybabies would have never survived the Civil Rights movement and could never have started it! They're weak, whiny and stupid! As for the "Alphabet Soup Community", they need to STFU! They wouldn't have so many problems if they didn't try to shove their lifestyle down everyone else's throat! TRUMP IN 2016!
OK "homophonic" is embarrassing - almost as embarrassing as the UA behavior described.
If there had been two people doing it, that would have been stereophonic. Sound right?
"Homophonic"? You mean they all sang the same tune?
There's a waste of another million dollars of our tax money coming up.
Edits please: "Kat Hermanson says she's had o drop out of several classes at the UA because her teachers acted homophonic."
Hey Zelin!!! This is a ghost from the past and possibly in the future as well if you would pls reply to this comment. This a former shipmate from the USS Fredrick stationed out of San Diego. Thanks for introducing me on my 21st Birthday to Count Basie. It was the best Birthday ever, thank you. Remember when you played the Sax on the end of the Pier. Good memories and good times with a good friend. The love of my life has helped me find you and send you this message. I'll be looking forward to your reply. 9070-209-0862 email: firstname.lastname@example.org
Raul wants us to suffer, same as Venezuela, the most miserable place on earth.
Socialism doesn't work without a slave state mentality.
Has nobody told Grijalva that?
Linda has done a great job.
Lucky you & nice office
If Enrique Peña-Nieto is anything like Vicente Fox, then no, the wall will not be built with Mexican money. Witness Fox's viewpoint: https://youtu.be/x4OwJOVi0ec
@GCB1 -- you make a county school Superintendent seem so minor in the grand scheme of public education. Your view is very "pigeon-holed" and forgets that there are INNOVATIVE county superintendents that do more than what your posting details. You should take the time to explore what your local County school office does, beyond the minimalist, administrative duties your posting limits itself to. Rural areas do need help and there are bureaucratic pieces that these candidates should understand. I hope Maria's article about Dr. Arzoumanian provides some of the expert answers vs the speculative ones from these comments.
The pay for this elected position is $76,600.
Grandma Suzy, the job is essentially bureaucratic. The County Supt. of Schools receives the same salary as all other elected county officials, set by law. The Board of Supervisors, Treasurer, Assessor, Sheriff and Recorder all are elected county officials. They do not make as much money as you might think. Huckleberry is paid significantly more as he is not elected.
While Mike's idea of administrators teaching is a desirable one, the problem is first, The County Supt. of Schools has absolutely no authority over the school districts to make that happen. He has no more influence than any other citizen in this regard. Second, having been an administrator, I can tell you that a principal's or district administrator's time is taken up with evaluations of those who report to him, dealing with concerned parents and citizens, and completing bureaucratic requirements for reports, etc. required by the Legislature, school board, and superintendent. It is a lovely concept but shows no understanding of what an administrator's job actually is all about. Most site administrators manage to fill in part of a day substituting in a classroom when no official substitute is available, but that is it. This is why most administrators work 12 hour days. Mike has never been an administrator in a school situation.
None of the three candidates, all very nice, sincere, people, are sufficiently familiar with the actual legal responsibilities of the County School Superintendent at this point. I hope their future campaign offerings will properly inform the public about the job. Incidentally, in small, rural communities, the position is much more significant in providing useful educational help to tiny schools and very small districts, so the overall position does not need to be changed.
The most important task, other than certifying teachers and administrators, and handling the flow of legislative and tax dollars, is to appoint vacant school board positions. The choices made by this individual can affect the future of a school district.
Kind of like Grijalva ever having an intelligent thought?
I would love to see Michael Gordy elected to the position of Pima County Superintendent of Schools! His dedication to public education is well known. He puts his words into action. Please vote for this highly-qualified educator!
