Re: “Media Watch

Thank you Mr. Paresi for airing the Cardinals, I'd give you hug if I could (OK, I'd rather hug Val...) :) Really I live in Sahaurita so I can hear the game loud and clear now even at night. 1490 signal is so low and barely can get it all even in the day time. And 1290 did not want to carry all the pre game shows so I'm glad that 1210 has Cardinal football.

Wow what a concept a killer deep cut internet station instead of same old crappy stale tunes like "Werewolves of London" every 5 hours... Some one should call the head monkey and tell them to run deep cuts on the air instead.....Nevermind, "Freebird" just started playing.....

Re: “Media Watch

Let me see if I understand this: the radio station (that nobody listens to, I might add) creates a "new" format that's "online." Yet nobody can listen to it via their iPhone, on Tunein or other players (they're "making an app" as we speak though!) Not only that, but the GM claims they play songs that are different than the stale radio playlists. The artists they list on their webpage are the same as the radio station: Pink Floyd, The Stones, Rush etc.

There's a reason radio is a dying industry. If they were serious about being successful, perhaps they should make their content more accessible and put the stream up on multiple players and NOT an app. If you want to listen to good quality classic rock, listen to Great Big Radio at http://newnormalnetwork.com

By the way, Radiofreephoenix last updated its website 10 years ago. Seriously, a 28k stream for people on "dialup?"

Schu: when are you going to do a show about how antiquated radio is and how the sports and "news" talk shows are now 32 minutes of commercials and 28 minutes of content? Interview someone like Tom Leykis from the New Normal Network and you can get an idea of how internet content can be fantastic.

Re: “Media Watch

Radiofreephoenix.com has been playing deep tracks and more obscure music for 10 years. They do it extremely well with a talented group of DJs.

Re: “Media Watch

Board Op? What makes you think there was a Board Op?

These stations usually run with (notoriously flawed) automated switching programs and when something goes amiss, there's nobody immediately available to remedy the situation.

Re: “Media Watch

Sure like to see how they officially log all those gratis commercials on KCUB. You'd think the board operator would have enough sense to walk out back and grab a stack of those great country songs just sitting there gathering dust.

Re: “Media Watch

I know the comment comes a week late, but since I couldn't find Media Watch online last week, here goes:

WHICH station on 97.1 got what rating?
"...Cumulus top-40 station KSZR FM 97.1 delivered a 2.0 12-plus number, its worst book of the year; Clear Channel country format KWYD 97.1 FM managed a 1.4, making it the only poor performer in an otherwise strong book for the Clear Channel cluster..."

Are Cumulus and Clear Channel doing a time-share on the frequency? That might explain the lousy ratings...

Meanwhile, Janet Napolitano voice-double Andrea Kelly of AZPM is single-handedly keeping the hair-gel industry alive. The hell, woman.

Re: “Media Watch

Coming to this thread late but with a partially dissenting view. I'll admit to a sentimental bias in favor of the Star's digital offerings, given that I was one of the very first folks to sign up with azstarnet.com (back when the handful of subscribers would get together for drinks with Bob Cauthorn) & have maintained a Starnet aka tucson.com login ever since. Not to defend the glitches and delays, but the Star's digital versions are pretty decent. In particular, the e-edition facsimile of the print edition has a well thought out interface and has a dedicated iPad app version that is legible on a tablet. (In contrast, while the version of the TW on issuu.com is legible if clunky on a wide-screen desktop, Issuu has dragged its feet on an iOS app and forget about trying to read anything on even an iPad with retina display.)

As for the business model and the cost... I won't be able to issue a verdict on that until I find out next month whether or not I continue to be grandfathered in on the very reasonable monthly fee I've been paying for the e-edition for the last half dozen years.

Re: “Media Watch

James T Harris is one of the worst on local radio. He is simply terrible in his
presentation.

I don't know who the Fook that guy even is. Probably sending him to another Lotus market like reno, or is that even bigger than Tucson?

Re: “Media Watch

Why can't KFMA keep the More Music Mornings format instead of getting another dopey morning show?

Re: “Media Watch

Since a very young age I have respected, studied, admired, even loved the teachings of Jesus. But the comments above suggest that same old moral superiority that some Christians use, and have used, to condescend and control public discourse and policy. Therefore, I am not comfortable with this intrusion, no matter how well intentioned, into the public schools.

Re: “Media Watch

I surf in to a lot of local papers around the US (not foreign ones, so far) that stop me cold with $ demands. I always think that they must have a strong paying community that wants to remain exclusive to their area, or they don't just want anyone from outside reading their news. Nevertheless, none are very good. The ADS has changed so much in the last 40 years it is just strange. Corporations may legally be people, but they don't get it.

Re: “Media Watch

I feel sorry for the newspaper delivery people who get up early and take us our papers. The Star will loose a lot of customers. Hence they loose icome. Don't care about the Star employees but only the delivery folks.
Hope the Star folks are reading this.

Re: “Media Watch

Thanks to the Arizona Daily Star customer service rep who just confirmed there was an across the board price increase on July 1, to cover the increased cost of ink and paper. Whatever. 23.2 percent is excessive. And the timing is questionable.
Too bad it takes a low-wage front line employee to do what the Publisher can't.
