It's great to have people like the Powhaus folks around to spice up our local culture! Tucson is an awesome place for music and art thanks to organizations like this.

Re: “TQ&A

Will any of the junior colleges use the Inigral/Facebook app to interact with students already marginalized by low high school grades in reading and writing? I am a teacher of reading and writing at Pima college and my question is based on the fact that Pima college in in the process of phasing out classes designed to help these students develop their academic ability enough to allow for admission into junior college. These 'developmental ' students are actually pre-junior college applicants who must bring up their skills to a 12th grade level before being allowed to enroll in junior college classes.

Re: “T Q&A

i just really want to say may God Bless you in your endeavor....fist line of business should be the replace the front staff at the Urban League and let your Hispanic staff know that there are African Americans that understand spanish!!!. Its not ok to disregard us in english and let your your people know in Spanish where to go for assistance....I am 38 years old living in Tucson for the past 25 years and to no avail i have never been able to go to call or walk in the Urban League and get any type of assistance what says good customer service....WOW....the worse group of outreach workers in the front....all your information is displayed and discussed at the front area and you come into that center wounded and dispair and the hospitality there is beyond reprieve....ive always worked and struggled in Tucson and with a college degree...where is the assistance for those of us who work hard, contribute??? Of all the funding the Urban Leagues receives some of it should be AIRMARKED to assist those of us who work, dont have 5 babies, do drugs, or have a man that does all the above living with you so when we can get off work and bring allllllll the documents that's required thought the other funds are depleted there may be some to assist us who may just have stumbled vs chose to stay "down" and deplete the SYSTEM....just a thought. I recently have been to the urban with a working friend to get assistance it has been two awful trips so far, so on the thired attempt i will have been through it all and will definately have more of a personal report back perhaps with a email or phone call to mr Beck just to give some feedback on a personal level.

Re: “TQ&A

Happy to Volunteer a few services. E.g. digital editing (3 min maximum) typing (65 wpm) and spanish to english translation. I recall a quote: 'A minority of one can grow to a majority'

Re: “TQ&A

Excellent again Tucson Weekly & Ms. Herreras. Somewhere I read: "A minority of one can grow to a majority of many" e.g. I'm pretty sure the quote was referring to Jesus Christ. I'm bi-lingual and whatever I can do from NYC by was of digital editing, typing (65 wpm) I would be happy to volunteer my services. God bless your good deeds.

Re: “TQ&A

Arizona Senate President/Senator Russell Pearce, “The Cowardly Lion”, isn’t alone in his thoughts about what is “right” for our state. He has Governor Janice K. Brewer, “The Wicked Witch of the West”, Maricopa County’s Sheriff Joe Arpaio, “The Tin Man”, and Attorney General Tom Horne, “The Straw Man”, to help him carry out his racist and discriminatory agenda against the Hispanic population and other minorities in Arizona.

Why would I want to be racially profiled due to SB1070, my children not be able to learn about their Puerto Rican history in school due to HB2281, be harassed in the polling place due to the Voter I.D. laws, have to prove who I am to the hospital (when I already know that I’m an American citizen and U.S. Air Force verteran) and have to prove who my children are with their birth certificates before I can enroll them in school?

Arizona is becoming a Police State similar to Nazi Germany. The 287(g) program is being abused by Sheriff Joe Arpaio in Arizona and he’s racially profiling Hispanics with impunity. How can this continue? The systematic violation of our civil rights with the blessings of the Federal Government.

I’m horrified and disgusted at these politicians who seem to think that they are above the law.

Thank You Ms. Shuman, Weekly & Ms. Herraras. I recently watched "This is It" MJ's documentary & MJ as well expressing his voice for the voiceless. Excellent and appreciated the Weekly includes the good works of many Tucson citizens. Bravisimo.

Re: “T Q&A

Viewed two parts of the Freedom Riders, and it took me back to childhood. I remember looking at the evening news (shout out to Huntley and Brinkley, et al) and wondering...why? when? would this happen to me and my family? What an incredible story - kudos to the modern FR.

For me the tea party brings back images of those FR era crowds.
