Tom, one final thought before I close out. If you believe the Tea Partiers are guilty of treason, maybe you should settle in with a copy of the Constitution. Once finished you will discover the only party guilty of treason is the Democratic Party and its blatant disregard for the Constitution they swore to protect, defend and uphold. The majority of Tea Partiers want us to return to the founding document rather than continue down the path to socialism. I have always found you an interesting read, even though I continue to disagree with your very narrow perspective on the world and politics in general. A man of your education and experience should be better rounded in you opinions. Just because a conservative says something, doesn't make it wrong and the same goes the other way, just because a liberal says something doesn't make them correct. Reality is both sides have their agendas and are fairly much in lockstep. We need some thinkers and folks who will represent their constituents rather than the lobbyists and donors. I became an Independent voter because both major parties continue to say one thing and do another. The Tea Party representatives went to DC to return us to the Constitution and became entrapped in the same political jungle that has existed for longer than either of us can remember. When your fair haired folks, Obama, Pelosi and Reid, publically state over and over again that they will not negotiate or compromise, they become the obstructionists.
And yes, the ensemble is so worthy of the random bold-facing.
There are several hundred million dollars of new military aircraft sitting at the local bone yard. They were purchased by the USAF at the direction of Congress. USAF had no use for them so, hello Arizona. There are apx 450 million dollars of aircraft sitting in Kabul never used, the US Gov could balance the budget just on military waste alone.
"potential citizens in our districts go through the anguish of deportation when legalization could be just around the corner for them."
Which is one reason we should stop passing decadal amnesties that just inspire another wave of "potential citizens" to enter the country illegall expecting that it will all work out in the next amnesty.
Well, I guess conversation with you sort of dries up........doesn't it?
That's a great man.
I notice he didn't mention the Border Patrol!!
Way to go Sam Alboy! Lucky thing for all north-westerners of Tucson. Be sure to check out this absolutely fresh food and Hawaiian flavors in their simplicity!!
We need a new breakfast place in this area. Looking forward to it
I don't understand what is going on with the TUSD case. Is this good or bad the Department of Justice was rebuffed? And if so, good or bad for whom? I saw kids protesting, apparently having something to do with TUSD, yesterday around noon near Broadway and Campbell.
I googled TUSD and discovered that the plaintiffs want TUSD to pay them $2.2 million dollars, and this money would come out of the TUSD deseg budget. That's a lot of money, and I'm skeptical as they want it for work done as far back as 1983. If TUSD is a Latino-majority district, wouldn't it help these students most to stop attacking the district and trying to get millions out of TUSD?
Also, the special master, said that the purpose of desegregation is to alter the mix of students, not to address an achievement gap between students of different races. To this end, highly rated schools with not enough white students could be closed to Latino students who would want to go to a respected school which doesn't have enough whites.
Given that the Department of Justice is overseen by a democratic presidential administration, I am guessing that the DOJ wants the special master to change the definition of desegregation to basically state that a desegregated school/district is still segregated if the minority students are not achieving as much as the white students, yes? Otherwise, why would the DOJ try to get ride of special master Willis Hawley in such a dramatic fashion.
This article has a lot of good details, but no interpretation on the part of the author and is without context, but maybe I just haven't been following this legal battle closely enough.
CW13, I don't let the narrow minded bother me too much. I used to be that way. I had a mentor tell me in order to broaden my mind and see different sides of subjects, I should read, specifically the books folks told me not to read. I found by reading a wide variety of material, liberal, conservative and everything I could get my hands in, I learned to tell the difference between what folks want you to believe and the facts.
One of my favorite quotes came from a very strong Democrat, D.P. Moynihan "You're entitled o your own opinion, but not your own facts."
It is very sad so many of his own party cannot grasp the logic and simplicity of the statement.
Why pick on the Lions dude?
Again, I'm enjoying this column very much. Thank you for sharing the fruits of your research.
I love the nuggets you share with wit! Interesting AND entertaining. Thank you.
Master race !!?? Very civil,Tommy. Very civil. Nam6870vet, don't let the thumbs downs get to you. You're talking to the heavy weight champ of dislikes. Consider it an honor that you're annoying these clueless liberals. Buffalo bagels?
Signed up yet, Tommy ?
That's just plain Kathleen Edwards. I think the "Page" part came from her presence on Facebook...
Forgive me if I'm wrong but they don't intend to sell it to tourists.
Nam6870vet: Buffalo bagels. In 1980, Reagan and his cronies simply did away with an economic system that had served us well, and was responsible for all the greatness we had thus far laid claim to, and replaced it with a pyramid scheme. They knew the enormity of what they had done. They knew it wasn't sustainable. They didn't care. They still don't. He who dies with the most wins, right? Now the 1% feeds us table scraps, and tells us we'd be better served by making sure they get better meals. And Tom, things like the "master race" remark are the reason people came up with the term "ugly American".
