Re: “Still Suppressing

Yee, Kavanagh, Polk, and Montgomery are all intolerant and rabid prohibitionists. Yee would give a clearer indication of her real intentions by burning books. You would think if these people were really worried about this plant that they would want to know more about it. This clearly is not the case. Yee is the head of the Arizona senate education committee. She does not support public education, instead she supports charter schools that profit from us. Marijuana prohibition does not come from a desire to keep people in Arizona safe. It's again about profits, the citizens be damned. Yee, Kavanagh, Polk, and Montgomery want to insure that private prisons are filled with Arizona marijuana users. In Arizona, right now, more people die from prescription drug overdoses than from traffic accidents. Rather than to attack a very real problem that actually kills people here, this group continues to attack Arizonans, including children, with life threatening diseases that are treated by medical marijuana. These disingenuous people use our own tax dollars to try to overturn voter passed initiatives and they spend considerable taxpayer money losing frivolous cases that could have been settled by reading the law and getting out a dictionary to learn the meaning of the words there. They would rather imprison Arizonans than to support our public schools that are the most poorly funded in the entire nation. Kavanagh recently tried to have the state give close to a million dollars to the private prisons that was not even asked for but we don't have money for our schools. This is how this group "empowers" people in Arizona. Do you really think that these actions are meant to help Arizonans or rather to enrich a few well positioned legislators? Marijuana has never killed by overdose.

Re: “Ask a Mexican

Forget to mention when your parents, or elders, ask you something, you always answer with Si, Señora or Si, Señor (Yes, Mam, Yes, Sir or No Mam, No Sir.)

Re: “Danehy

Kentop - I was just jerking your chain. I read Danehy (and these boards) every week and though we share most basic political views, I am occasionally in the other camp. I am, for example, a registered Independent who once had children enrolled a charter school. That said, complaining about what a waste of time Tom's column is is an oddly common occurrence, mainly voiced by people who clearly read and post regularly. Nothing wrong with reading opposing thought even if only for the sake of being critical on the message boards. Calling it a waste of time, though, just seems a bit disingenuous to me. Surely by now it has been enough of a time-waste to consider cutting it out altogether.

Re: “Danehy

Brad - Reading Tom's article made me regret the few minutes I wasted that I will never get back. Whatever Tom was paid to write that blather, it was way, way to much and not worth the paper and ink to publish it. That's what I meant when I said it was expensive to write about it. But hey, I got 6 dislikes, so my work here is done!

Re: “Danehy

Well, I guess you didn't like Carl Hayden very much, huh? You forgot to pick on that big fountain that was in his park, Tom. The one that wasted all that water for all those years. (Or, weren't you here during that time?)

Re: “Danehy

John Greenway is being replaced by Goldwater because an idiot from Phoenix (John Droggs) happened to visit the Statuary Hall and thought who the hell is John Greenway. So he started an effort to get rid of Greenway and replace him with Goldwater. Typical Phoenix asshole. Driggs ignored our state's mining history or didn't care.
Greenway will be placed in a dumping ground park in Phoenix. From what I figure its a place where Arizona dumps its unwanted statues and memorials.
Look at it this way in 80 years or so someone will replace Goldwater with someone else.

Re: “Ask a Mexican

I always thought "Mande" sorta morphed in vernacular translation to "tell me" or "explain".

Re: “Danehy

Kentop - "Writing about it" is expensive? Also, in consideration of all things time-wasteful, where would you rank reading and posting about it?

Re: “Ask a Mexican

To me the word mande is a form of respect taught by your parents. What's wrong with that? Whether you abide by it-- "command me" is another thing.

Re: “Danehy

Tom, thank you for writing this. I for one enjoyed learning about our on-going history. It is sad to say that some people are not nearly as productive, all we can learn from them is their ability to criticize.

Don't you get it J.M.? We got it when we got home from Vietnam. It was made perfectly clear to us.

Once the fighting is over.............AMERICA DON'T GIVE A SH*T.

Sadly, now a new generation of veterans will learn this lesson.

Re: “Danehy

What? Lute Olson doesn't have a statue in the rotunda? This oversight must be corrected immediately! Deciding whose statue is on display in the nation's capitol is the most trivial, expensive waste of time ever. So is writing about it.

Frank: You think you're the only person disagreeing with our editorial content? You clearly don't spend much time reading comments on our site.

Re: “The Nearly Last Words of J.M. Smith

wouldn't be better for your 'paper" if you had at least one letter writer who disagreed arwith the tone and tenure of you editorial slant? Ok, I do. I noticed you had to stretch way back again, 6 years, to GUSH, CHEYNEY, and now four hours drive to Sheriff Wilmot over in Yuma who is an obvious POT HATER. i think that's lazy. Hell, man, you've got pot haters, right here in Tucson. Why not scandalize them?
