the gay scene in Tucson sucks -- no pun intended. That this is the latest article attests.
Thanks for bringing the truth about these Tucson treasures to the general population through this touching article. We've known for many years how wonderful these LGBTQ folks are and how valuable they are to our community, now it's common knowledge. Refreshing!
Thank you for highlighting these wonderful people.
Just a slight correction. I believe the Tucson Observer was originally name AGN for Arizona Gay News. And you can't forget Jeckyl's aka The Last Culture on Miracle Mile.

Stockbrokers & attorneys & at the other end of the bar a group of mexicans"... is this the best that the Tucson Weekly can come up with? Novakowski has 'bartended'; allegedly, for 20 years(no marketable skills) & is allowed to speak for the 'gay' community. What a joke!
I meant no Gay Community does it better than Tucson.
The Tucson community saved my life. It opened its arms to me and let me live. I was proud to be a bartender at Colette's for 7 wonderful years. Thanks for the story. I have lived in a lot of big cities and no Hay Community does it better than Tucson.
I really enjoyed the story and the history. Thanks!
There is a lot of good in the world and it is good to know Tucson has some of the most wonderful people around. Gay or Straight.

Thanks so much for this interesting history.
Robert - being transgender is not a "lifestyle". It's a life. You don't get to pick--it just is. Who would choose to be hated and discriminated against and often assaulted or even killed for being yourself? There is a compelling reason people transition. Get over your self-righteousness. Live and let live. You don't get to decide what is right for someone else.
Robert: You can feel free to object, you just aren't going to do it here when you engage in borderline hate speech.
um... Wingspan had a LGBT Film Festival for many years here in Tucson!
Is this publication so liberal or progressive that it wont allow someone to object to this persons lifesyle;only people like the bleeding heart above???
Thank you Tucson Weekly& Anna. No adjective comes to mind, however, galatians three-twenty eight pretty much sums it up. Fyi, I am a heterosexual male who just believes inclusion is a good thing and leave the rest for the Creator's judgement.
I've always been proud to say Tucson has a greatly supported LGBT community. While not perfect, it is much better than other areas of the US. If only the State of Mariocopa would figure that out. Thanks...sharing on FB
Its a little amusing that Linda Thomas was taking UCMJ actions on subordinates when she, herself, was violating the 'then' UCMJ violation of being gay. Anyone who received UCMJ punishment by then Col Thomas should immediately hire an attorney to have their punitive actions overturned. People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. As for Hollace Lyon, I worked with her back in 1993 at Keesler AFB...she was the Executive Officer tg the Wing Commander. It was no secret she was gay. Everyone just looked the other way. Gays/lesbians are being way over sold when they are more intolerant than heterosexuals.
Dario is on fire right now his new single fallback, is on hit! Looking forward to seeing him live!
Dario is my favorite singer I cant wait to see him perform
Re: “Family Portraits”
Thanks, phleo84! We're hoping by the time we have our second child that marriage equality will be the new law of the land! And yes, Howell staff were the best! We bought a larger home in order to adopt more kiddos but in a different school district. But like Howell, they've been very supportive of our family. That's an encouraging sign.
