Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

Three Sonorans-3 years ago

In next year’s election, I will be reminding people that voting for a third-party candidate is NOT a vote for the Republican. It is a vote for a third-party!

You know what REALLY IS a vote for the Republicans? People like Ron Barber and Kyrsten Sinema voting Republican and against our President!

This is getting real confusing folks. Is there a shadow democrat party, now going third party?

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

Relative to TUSD- the following stories that are posted on the Arizona Daily Independent and Three Sonorans today give just one hint of how desperate Kristel Foster, Cam Juarez and their "Grijalva machine" are right now. Those of us who have watched our Democrats (Cam, Kristel, and Adelita) nearly destroy TUSD now refer to it as the "Demolition Democrats." The two posts also gives the public an idea of the depth of hypocrisy that the so called supporters of public education swim in every day of the lives. David Safier has evolved into a small grinding part of the "machine" and he has no business covering TUSD in any way shape or form.

I am a highly qualified teacher who has recently left TUSD because of their absolute failure to support the magnet school in which I taught. The school still has too many vacancies and a revolving door of substitutes. The magnet program has not received the basic material to support the program. Sanchez, Juarez and Foster blame the court order for everything. Here is the bottom line truth: they have not implemented the court order; they have not implemented the magnet school improvement plans; and it is their failures that the public should vote on this election by electing new and honest school board members. I will go back to teach for TUSD once its Governing Board has changed!

Charter School Directors Elias, Verdugo To Host Fundraiser For Juarez

By: Loretta Hunnicutt September 29, 2016
Pima County Supervisor Richard Elias and his fellow charter school director Magdalena Verdugo are hosting a party for Tucson Unified School District Governing Board member Cam Juarez. The event is the second event Elias has sponsored for the embattled Juarez.
Juarez and his fellow Governing Board member Kristel Foster are under fire and investigation for allegedly illegal campaign contributions they received from a Phoenix-based vendor for the District. The vendor, ESI, provides non-union teachers to the District in its effort to avoid the requirements of the Affordable Care Act.
The fact that Elias is a director for a charter school organization raised eyebrows. The fact that he would partner with a charter school operative to raise money for Juarez has shocked many public school advocates.
The charters are operated by CPLC Community Schools, an affiliate of Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc., according to its website. Elias became a director for the corporation in 2008, according to the Arizona Corporation Commission website. Along with serving as a director with Elias, Verdugo is also the “Southeast AZ Area Manager/Vice President, School Readiness at Chicanos Por La Causa, Inc.,” according to her LinkedIn profile.
A mere 5 percent of students enrolled in its Toltecalli High School (formerly Calli Ollin Academy), who took the AZMerit test, passed the English Language portion and a mere 6 percent passed the Math portion in 2015.
While Elias and Juarez have been vocal critics of charter schools, during Elias’s tenure on the Pima County Board of Supervisors has approved tens of millions of bond monies for their development.
When not being a hypocrite about charter schools, Elias also misleads invitees to Juarez’s fundraiser when he claims: “Cam and Kristel are true public education champions. They’ve voted for teacher raises three years in a row, they’ve approved significant multi-million dollar investments for student textbooks and technology, and they’ve passed balanced budgets that put more dollars into our classrooms.”
In fact, under the leadership of TUSD Board president Adelita Grijalva, Juarez, and Foster, the District allocates less than 50 percent of its funding to the classrooms. While touting a surplus, at Tuesday night’s Governing Board meeting, District CFO Karla Soto admitted that the District had been hoarding Prop 301 monies rather than paying them out to teachers over the past three years. During those years, teachers have fled the District in frustration, leaving the District with one of the highest teacher vacancy rates in Arizona.
TUSD Board member Michael Hicks stated, “If it weren’t for double standards, Cam would have no standards at all. This is the same guy who complains about charters from the dais? Unbelievable.”
Verdugo’s palatial home is nestled in the suburban foothills overlooking the mostly inner-city District. Attendees are advised to watch for mule deer crossing the winding roads.

Double standards for Cam Juarez? The G-Crew scrambles to save their sinking ship

Three Sonorans
TSON News
The former superintendent and current Vice President of a charter school district will be hosting a fundraiser for TUSD board member Cam Juarez this Sunday. This seems hypocritical since these charter schools have been in direct competition with TUSD, picking up students that should have been in TUSD schools.
TUSD Board member Michael Hicks stated, “If it weren’t for double standards, Cam would have no standards at all. This is the same guy who complains about charters from the dais? Unbelievable.”
Perhaps the charter school executive is supporting Cam Juarez since she knows that Juarez is bad for TUSD which leads to more students that can fill her charter schools?
After being caught with their hands in the cookie jar, crumbs on their shirts and melted chocolate on their mouths, Kristel Foster and Cam Juarez were forced to return $10,000 to a donor who was the wife of the Vice President of a company that just got a $21 million contract from TUSD just a few weeks before.
TUSD board member Mark Stegeman who is also running for re-election along with Foster and Juarez, received no donation from this donor after he voted no on the contract, which made this look even more like a pay-to-play donation from a Republicans “housewife” from Paradise Valley.
Democrats love that money, so they were livid after being forced to return this donation. It took over a week, and they defended and justified why they should keep that money, but in the end even their own Democratic endorsers threatened to pull their support if that money was not returned asap.
These same Democrats were also silent when Kristel and Cam voted to outsource substitute teachers to ESI at a cost of $21,000,000, blaming Obamacare as the excuse. But then again, Ron Barber also voted to defund Obamacare as a Democrat, which may explain why he hosted a fundraiser for both Foster and Juarez last week.
In response, these two rubber-stamps for HT Sanchez got their boy David Safier from the Tucson Weakly to write a supposed expose of TUSD Kids First, an independent expenditure committee that has endorsed three candidates who are not Kristel and Cam. Some of their criticisms have been that some of the donors live just outside TUSD, despite the fact that many of them own property within TUSD and pay ever-increasing property taxes to the district. There was nothing from the Weakly about the pay-to-play donations.
Kristel Foster is now going directly after Jim Click for his contributions to TUSD elections, including TKF, suggesting that perhaps the entire Catholic Diocese is also evil for gladly accepting $1 million in donations from Mr. Click each year which help pay for the churches in which HT Sanchez confesses his sins and prays.
It seems that only Foster and Juarez can accept huge donations from rich Republican donors that live outside the district or from the Vice Presidents of organizations being used to outsource teachers or that run charter schools.

Re: “Katy Perry: Back At It Again With The Tucson Reference

Hillary Clinton has an amazing memory for Donald Trump's past, as far back as 1968.

Now if only she could remember anything about her own emails....or where the Rose Law Firm billing records were lost...or the FBI files she took when her husband was dating staffers.

Maybe Lester Holt could give her some help. He still owes Jesse Jackson for the job.

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

TUSD is experiencing teacher shortages because it is no longer a desirable place to be employed. I grew up in 30+ student classrooms my entire education. But back then they demanded respect and they disciplined. Maybe we ought to be taking a look at what happened to that. It seems it was eliminated by the very people running the schools.

Now why would they do that?

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

"Frances Perkins" why don't you write under your own name, so we can understand what your actual role in local and state politics is?

You say, "The obsession with Sanchez is a treatable condition. I have broken bread with him at a state meeting. I can confirm he does not have horns growing out of his head."

What a howler. Do you actually think that whatever impression you may have gotten of that miscreant while "breaking bread with him at a state meeting" is relevant, or will persuade anyone who has read your ignorant and prejudiced commentary -- or followed Sanchez's actual track record in office -- for the past several years to think well of him?

But you are right, the "obsession" with Sanchez is treatable: it is treatable by judicious surgery to remove a demonstrably dishonest, incompetent, ignorant, greedy, malfeasant public administrator from the role he has occupied that has allowed him to damage TUSD -- perhaps irreparably at this point -- for the past three years. Many hope to see that surgery performed -- by his own hand or by that of others -- shortly after the November elections take place. One just hopes the patient in which he and his ilk have been growing like a cancer for the past three years will survive the operation.

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

Wow, I made a sleep walking troll slip. My doucheness is beyond my control. Everyone with a functioning brain knows that it is the GREEDY Old School Conservative White Privileged Sect that controls education in this God Forbidden state. The "illegals" could easily multiply by 10, it still wouldn't do 1% of the damage that Greedy, Ignorant, Asinine, kNownothing Tyrant Shitheads (GIANTS, get it?) do EVERYDAY day. I have finally, with the benefit of medication, pulled my head out of my ass. Please join me on my journey to greatness.

The National Academy of Sciences just released a study showing the annual fiscal burden across local, state, and federal government imposed on taxpayers by immigration is $43 billion - $299 billion.

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

Flowing Wells has a truly great man, Jim Love. It's funny, the history of Floing Wells and Amphi is that large ranch owners essentially picked their own district boundaries for tax and control purposes. By the way I am a property tax payer in TUSD. The obsession with Sanchez is a treatable condition. I have broken bread with him at a state meeting. I can confirm he does not have horns growing out of his head.

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

Hey, "Frances Perkins," why does Flowing Wells have a much smaller % of teacher vacancies than TUSD?

Following your logic, it must be because they pay their teachers much more than TUSD.

Oops, no -- that's not it.

Getting a lot of hits from Adelita and Kristel and Cam's Facebook friends, David? I bet whenever anyone raises the issue of all the teacher vacancies in the district (and all the classrooms on the West side filled with subs) the three rubber stampers of all-things-HT-Sanchez link one of your lame blogs to "demonstrate" to their ignorant supporters that none of this is their fault (or $500K-per-year-HT's fault).

Too bad there's no vetting of valid information in this publication. Whoever "oversees" your work (IS there anyone? Mari Herreras: hello? anyone home?) obviously has no conscience whatsoever in the area of ensuring the readership of their sad publication is not misled by bad, tendentious, and self-servingly selective "information."

Re: “Remind Me Again, Why Does Arizona Have a Teacher Shortage?

No matter what rhetoric ensues, the reality on the ground is, school districts throughout Arizona cannot fill teaching jobs. And guess what "choice" geniuses, charter school turnover is also huge. Hard to make a profit unless we pay teacher very little, even with the "voluntary" teacher improvement donation funds. Western Arizona districts lose scores to California and Nevada every year. Indian communities all over the State have a very difficult time filling jobs, even as they try to grow their own, and plug the gap briefly with international teachers. Funny how the "market based" solutions advocated by the right never apply to the teacher shortage. How many teacher candidates would we have if the Statewide starting salary was $50,000 with benefits?

Sorry, the meds are wearing off and I'm starting to argue with one of my other personalities.
