Re: “Mailbag

One has to wonder how one looks themselves in the mirror after defending a child murderer whose excuse was he was losing a fist fight he started by stalking, falsely accusing a black child of 17 or less, have read he was 16, but regardless 17 is not legally a adult, cannot sign a binding contract, hence he was a child under the law and eyes of normal people! He was guilty of one thing, walking black, armed with a bag of skittles, can of Arizona tea, and defending himself from some stalker in the dark of night on his way home!

Re: “Mailbag

Thank you Susan Thorpe for so glaringly shining a light on the true nature of a trial gone politically wrong.

Re: “Mailbag

W. Welch, good to see that the Loft got back to you on that.

I'm going to post that on the Range, as a follow-up to your letter. Thanks for sharing.

Re: “Mailbag

Hi, I'm W. Welch, and I'd like to share the Loft's response to the letter I wrote above:

"On behalf of The Loft Cinema, I would like to apologize for any discomfort, anger or disappointment you felt while attending our Team America Sing-A-Long on July 4th. The intention of this annual event is definitely not to make anyone feel uncomfortable or marginalized in any way, but rather to provide a fun and unique way to celebrate the holiday. However, intentions and reality are often not perfectly matched, and your insightful comments regarding some of the language used during the show are very well taken, and will certainly be taken into serious consideration as we move forward. Again, we would never intentionally set out to make any person or group feel anything less than 100% welcome here at The Loft, and we sincerely apologize for making you feel uncomfortable or threatened in any way. We strongly support and respect our LGBTQ community, and we appreciate your thoughtful response to an unpleasant situation, which allows us a valuable opportunity to learn and grow. While this will in no way correct the situation, please accept a pair of passes to The Loft as our way of making amends, and we hope you will return to the cinema and have a wonderful experience."

I, and my friends who were with me that night, could not have asked for a better, more mindful response. In light of their commitment to our community, I plan on remaining, proudly, a loyal customer. Thank you.

Re: “Mailbag

I guess the movie should have been edited to remove any reference to the Film Actors Guild.

Re: “Mailbag

I'm a strong supporter of both medical marijuana and also of the legalization of the drug for recreational purposes, but I have to agree, Smith's column isn't helping. If anything, he's just another data point for people who've decided that marijuana use damages critical thinking skills and makes for less motivated, less useful members of society.

Wouldn't it be amazing if we had someone writing locally on this issue who didn't so beautifully fit the slacker pothead sterotype?

Re: “Mailbag

Wait...what?...the last bastion of liberal, open-minded, all inclusive Loft theater had a Fag bashing session? I think that's how I'm reading that. Well done Peggy. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

The most shocking part of this revelation is not that the use of the word fag is/was/ will be, offensive; the most shocking part is that the appropriate moniker for these fools is 'douche'. Douche Bag does not discriminate (misogyny big mouths aside) and is more applicable to politicians and actors who could very well be fags themselves.

Get it right Loft.

Back to hating.

Re: “Mailbag

Never underestimate the power that intolerance and ignorance holds over Arizonans.

For any of you that want proof, All I can say is that human beings do not elect people like Jan Brewer, Joe Arpaio, Russell Pearce, etc., etc, and they especially don't elect these hate mongers again and again. Arizonans, however, do.
Arizona has a serious case of Hate Fever folks.

Re: “Mailbag

J M Smith managed to write a column without using the term "cock block". Amazing! His writing is fluff and speculation. Hire someone who can write a good article on the issues. No more "Diary of a talkative Pot Head". Please.

Re: “Mailbag

"Talk to the people who DO have jobs already in the area, in the tourism field, who will lose them. The same people who are seeking to develop this copper mine developed one in Italy under a different company name. They left the area in shambles. Like a hit and run accident. The community hemorrhaging. "

Rosemont Copper, Augusta Resources nor any of the management of those companies had anything to do with the problems at the Sardinian gold mine. Here is the real truth about Cyanide Beach, a fraudulent video produced by the John Dougherty, who paid to do so by FICO.

He didn't say you won't DIE of prostate cancer, what he said was "Millions of men die with prostate cancer but not from it." This doesn't mean you won't die OF prostate cancer, only that millions of men die WITH it, but not FROM it. I do have to agree with Claire Hendrickson's opinion of Mr. Smith's article from June 13th. It struck a bad chord with me, too, and I couldn't have said it better myself!

Kirk, my grandfather who died OF prostate cancer would be fascinated to hear your analysis, as would a dear friend and neighbor who also died OF prostate cancer.

Re: “Mailbag

I have no problem with medical marijuana having to follow the same rules that other drugs have to follow, but not special rules simply because the drug is marijuana. I realise that the promoters of medical marijuana so wanted a law that will pass, they caved in areas that they should not have. How would you like to get a special "pass" to buy you blood pressure meds,or perhaps some other med that you need? Why was it required to put medical marijuana in a position where only the "well funded" can seek the relief medical marijuana provides? I feel there are only a few (but they do exist) conditions where medical marijuana works better than the pill you would get in a "normal" setting but if the patients reports that this drug (the medical marijuana) is working well for him/her that should be the end of the discussion.Much is made today about perscription drug abuse,I have no reason to believe it is not a very big problem. Not wanting to re-hash an issue that has been decided(allowing the use of medical marijuana) but I think the reasoning behing medical marijuana needs to be looked at again. If you percieve your condition is better because of the medical marijuana you use,why not call it a win, simple as that? Many people get into trouble with their perscriptions because they do not follow the perscription as written. If it does not work right away they take another pill or perhaps add alcohol to the mix.If it is working, some think that taking another pill will make it work even better, both scenearios are very dangerous. You are not going to stop breathing,or end up with no heartbeat due to medical marijuana.Sure if you mix it with alcohol, pass out on your back you stand a chance of vomiting and drownding in you own vomit. Please do not drive if you take pills, use medical marijuana,or drink.Society will come down hard and without mercy if you have a car accident and hurt someone while you are impaired. If your condition is bad enough your Doctor can help you get Sun Van rides very cheap. There is no excuse to driving either impaired, distracted,or just plain tired. In closing,I ask that medical marijuana be treated fairly.I believe manly long running family arguments revolve around marijuana use.If the anti-marijuana party agrees that marijuana is OK in a medical setting I believe they think they will suffer some sort of embarassment within the family for being so strongly opposed to marijuana for so many years.Remember the goal is to help people feel better and stop the overdoses from drugs that will cause your death if the perscription instructions are not followed

Re: “Mailbag

Good to know Cunningham will "handle" a problem drunk. If he would just modify that hairstyle of his it would go a long way to demonstrating his own recovery.
