Is this the famous musician Brian Smith, Seven Segal's opening band?
Sometimes I wish comments were at the beginning so I could say "Great read. Recommended."
Trump is highly criticized for his immigration policies. However, which one of us would allow a total stranger into our home without knowing exactly who that person is ? America is our home and some of us still believe in the very principals that made this nation one of the greatest nations in the world. Open boarders is putting the lives of many of our fellow Americans in danger, period ! There is a time for compassion, a time of war, a time for peace. If Hilary Clinton is elected she will follow in close pursuit of the Obama policies and will continue to dismantle the traditional values of America of whom many have given their lives to preserve.
Our liberties are at stake, our first and second amendment rights are about to become a thing of the past. How dare we speak our minds without the threat of opposition by the left who seems far more concerned in not being offensive then caring for the lives of their loved ones. How dare we oppose 'gun control' when Mr. hypocrite Obama and his family will not disarm their Secret Service agents from their weapons to protect them from criminals and thugs that will never abide by the rules whom he proposes . I want the same right to protect and defend my family as Hilary and Obama have to protect theirs. If they are so confident that their gun control measures will stop terrorists and criminals then let them disarm their guards and show leadership, let them set the example for the rest of us second amendment right crazy fanatics and let them put their money where their mouth is.
Keep throwing the truth at them, Gents. It puts them in a tizzy.
Hey David W,
You are spot on again. The left always practices selective outrage too. Angry at the NRA, conservative Christians, and now Donald Trump. Not much said about the actual evil doers however.
Funny how the first amendment rights of Trump supporters to attend a rally without being attacked
doesn't come up. Or the second amendment rights of law abiding gun owners is ignored when going after a certain type of semi-automatic weapon. I heard that the "Gays with Guns" groups are now banned from the pride parades this month too. Where did their constitutional rights go?
Notice how Jefferson's "inalienable rights coming from the Creator" quote in the Declaration of Independence and Madison repeating it in The Bill of Rights never gets mentioned in
their arguments about keeping religion out of politics.
As for talking out ones arse, is their a better example than Hillary and Barry's bold face lies to
the Benghazi victims families when blaming a video for the attack? Ok, maybe " you can keep your
doctor". Or maybe "Isis is on the run"
There you go Vince. They want to base public policy on the USC when it's necessary in their argument, and then constantly trash it as outdated and ignore it when it doesn't fit their agenda.
They don't have to check their faith, but they sure as hell have to put it 2nd to the duties of their office. Of course it would have been nice if Obama and Clinton came around to gay marriage support earlier. But they did come around.
As for showing mercy and compassion for immigrants and refugees, and framing it in a faith-based context, that's fine with me. It's not like you have to adhere to any faith to feel the same way. Being decent to people may be part of most religions, but it's certainly not like belief in a higher power or dogma is required for that. You base public policy on the constitution, on treating people fairly, and short and long-term well being of the citizenry of the country.
And Trump talks out of his ass all the time, it's what he does.
TEP Bills and all other utilities will continue to rise as a subsidy to unsustainable and uneconomic alternatives. Next the Dems/Libs will propose carbon offset taxes, these along with national policy will further take $$ from your pockets for energy in the range of 45-70% over the next 5-7 years. This will help the standard of living in Tucson how?
Of course Lawyer/Liars like the Mayor will not feel this cost at all in their rarefied neighborhoods behind security gates! Just compare our current costs to other countries that have adopted these policies in Europe and the Commonwealth.
Someguy- All kinds of laws are rooted in religion. What do you base public policy on? The latest public opinion polls? Folks don't have to check their faith at the door when entering the political arena.
Four short years ago Obama and Clinton both claimed to be opposed to gay marriage. Were they "haters" then? Obama appeals to religious ideals when he pushes for illegal immigration or middle eastern refugee acceptance or government health care or whenever it is convenient for pushing his agenda.
As for "cheap shots", your "ass/mouth" comment sounded pretty cheap.
Clinton is not infinitely preferable to anyone in my book. May she finally go to jail where she belongs.
Hi Linda. I'm Nehmo.
I knew (not in a relationship sense) one of Palacios's daughters after the killing. At the time, I had long hair, and I was the only male in Amphi High to have it. I've been to the Palacios house a few times. Yes, I'd say he murdered those 2 guys. However, after meeting the guy, I must say that it's true. He's the nicest person in the world. If there can be a "temporary insanity", it's possible he had it.
Vince - agree one important thing at least. If Trump is removed from being the nominee, that's a problem, as much as I despise him and wish I would never hear his voice again. That would create a dangerous precedent and make a whole lot of angry people angrier and they would have good reason to be.
As for religious zealotry, I mean actually making domestic policy based on it. Things like gay marriage (aka giving everyone their constitutional rights). The only argument against it is religious, which has no place in public policy. I have my reservations about Hillary, but trust her on these issues. She is not hostage to a base that is yes, extremely conservative Christian and demands that their interpretation of their religion be made into law. Sharia law happening in the US is just not a thing that's worth worrying about.
And cheap shots about wardrobe and whether you approve of her laugh aside, let's suppose all of the worst right wing fears about Hillary were true. That still leaves her as infinitely preferable to Donald Trump.
Someguy, I don't believe that nominating Trump or ( Cruz for that matter ) will hurt the Republicans long term. Remember Goldwater was crushed in 64 and the Dems had screwed it up again by 68.
McGovern lost big in 72 and the Dems were back in the White House by 1976.
However, the rumblings that I hear about an impending coup at the Republican convention by the establishment elites who plan to steal the nomination from Trump, are genuinely scary.
Whether you love the guy or hate him, he won fair and square and people will leave the party in huge numbers if they pull try to pull this off.
Hillary a moderate who rejects religious zealotry? C'mon man, the Clinton foundation sure loves the money from religious zealots. Several countries who abuse woman and want homosexuals executed
have given massive amounts of money and she seems to be very quiet about Sharia law. Oh, but you were only concerned about Christian fundamentalists, right?
The Dems are nominating a lying, foul creature with a fake laugh and horrible pant suits. If the FBI indicts her and the Justice department whitewashes everything, you just may see the tide turn against the Dems.
Maybe that's why Bernie is hanging tough.
Vince - maybe demise was not entirely correct. But with Trump as the presidential nominee, another wing being the Cruz faith-based social issues type, they only way they hang on to House seats is through crazily drawn districts. In some ways (economic, and especially foreign policy) Hillary is the moderate republican candidate, but at least she rejects the idea that religious orthodoxy makes for good social policy.
The tide is going against 2 of the 3 types of Republicans. But your point about state legislators seems valid.
The Caricature looks more like the screaming crone Hillary, err, Liary! Good job in capturing her essence Jim!
No need to worry about the Republicans and their "demise".
Last time that I checked the GOP controlled thirty-one of the state governor positions,
the U.S. House and the U.S. Senate. I known that living in Tucson gives one a different perspective about who is in power, considering that we have a one party thing going on.
It is true that they may never see the White House again what with New York and Cali
being totally blue and the electoral map set up like it is.
Not very happy with either major party these days, but I know that they both will continually overplay
their hands and the pendulum will continue to swing back and forth like it has for the sixty years that
I have been on this planet.
Well said someguy.
Thinking aloud I generally agree - but I would make it 1 out of 20 things trump says for me. I am a very left leaning human but am taking very joy in the Republican party's demise. It's bad for the country. Somewhere deep within the racial resentment, bigotry and unforgivable misogyny , Trump (and Sanders minus most of the bad stuff) have tapped into some very real problems in our country. Giant companies do indeed have way to much sway, and the economic impact on people's lives is really bad, across racial lines. Many problems facing poor black, white and immigrant communities have similar root causes and solutions. And yet the Republican party has picked the WORST POSSIBLE choice to address these things, one who with every word out of his ass/mouth compounds the problems we face.
As for the actual point of this article, it is a crucial point. Vote in these elections, for goodness sake, and do some research.
The bastardized Reagan quote that "government is not the solution, it's the problem" is toxic. Government is only the problem if you elect a-holes, religious zealots, and self-serving dogmatic people who pander to the worst instincts of people. It needs to be better and it starts with electing local politicians who care about making our society better, not privatizing every service we have and leaving poor people with no options other than 'hey, work harder you lazy bums!'. Private companies aims are inherently not the same as those of a healthy society. I'm not naive, or full-on socialist, but you need competent government to look at the long view (not just the next months earnings report).
The problem with nihilism is that it leads to anarchy and wild, unrestrained violence, and (even a little) anarchy leads to serious repression and controlled, sustained violence. We came close to that path back in the late 60s but now the memory has faded and the threat is renewed. A big difference now is that little people can pop off their little opinions with rapid and stunning stupidity. As for Trump, every 5th time he opens his mouth he says something I can vaguely agree with - and then he goes back to very strange, crazy, demented talk. Trust him at your peril. He will do little good.
The best part of this whole mess is that the republicans that Trump turns off, will be replaced by democrats that he turns on. Either way Hillary can not win. She must conger up more attacks against him.
But how clean is she? Uh oh. This is going to get nasty. It's all she has left. having Bill on the campaign trail has turned into a liability.
Maybe she should pick McCain as her running mate and DESTROY both parties.
