My first impression was, this is really good writing,my second, this guy is very cool.El Tiradito, even, one should go there at two in the scarlet night and light a candle for compassion toward all of us together in this sad, but so beautiful spinning blue world.
Thank you Tuscon Weekly for your thoughts and opinions on the candidates. As a conservative and freedom loving citizen i will always vote the oposite of your recommendations. Please, for those of us that have common sense, keep up the good work.
It is not the BP's fault. Now it is the POTUS. He wants open borders, with mass migration. Don't be surprised that they may be routing Syrians through the southern border so he can grant them amnesty. This guy works overtime at subverting the law, and the USC.
Yes it is old we know Giffords worked hard for this area but she of course is not in office and the judge is dead. I live in Tucson and this is an ongoing travesty, Grijalva is never down there. One other major problem is the illegals have been the cause of numerous forest fires that have cost millions of dollars to control.Border Patrol needs to change its policy in handling this area!
Lets see how many comments appear here, from the Bleeding Heart Liberals who own and infest the Weekly, well? I now see this story is from 2008! So Where are all of the comments, were they erased like Hillary's Emails?
Excellant article. Why is'nt this sent to every senator and representative in congress. I know it wouldn't do any good to send it to Obama or Hillary because doing something about a situation like this "just is'nt who we are." It is a shame as to what we will become if something is not done.
What a moving story thank you and thank the man with Water. I love how he is looking from a humanity stand point and doing service . Bravo to him. I read over many of the comments and a lot of the where so negative and unrelated to this article. Water is not a previalge it a right of all humans. Give service
Why don't you do the world a favor and piss up a rope?
No, dumbass. It's your hate that makes you haters.
Because we don't support ILLEGAL immigration that makes us haters. It also makes you an idiot.
We lived in Tucson and Benson a short time. Loved it. Like everywhere there are intelligent kind people, and ignorant mean souls. Much of the conservative propaganda media machine has created a country of HATE. We hope to get back to the area and I hope I run into Joel and can buy him a beer or glass of lemonade if he prefers. Thanks for your service to the country as a marine AND as an angel in the desert. Stay COOL!
Then let's run some ads in Mexico and try to increase the flow of illegals. It sounds like Joel can handle it. Quick, before the build the Wall-Mart.
All of us at Humane Borders are very proud of Joel. His compassion, persistence and moral compass reflects the best in American values and the teachings of all major faiths. He also loves the land and does hit best to protect the land and wildlife living on it. Also, fyi, Joel and all volunteers pick up trash and there are trash barrels at many of the stations. And, in fact, the Border Patrol has said publicly that Humane Borders' work results in a reduction in deaths and potential rescues.
Absolutely C dub. That way when they steal it the BP can charge them with no proof of insurance and wasting finite resources that cause global warming.
I wonder if he leaves the keys in the ignition of his truck when he leaves it to fill one of his tanks.
So you are saying the tanks are there to help BP make arrests? That is brilliant! Keep up the good work.
Whether you are for illegal immigration or not (I'm not), you have to admire the sympathy and love that Joel has for his fellow human beings. Not everyone out there suffering in the desert is a criminal in the sense that they are coming here to hurt others or take up criminal activity. I believe that immigration and citizenship should take place through legal channels, but I can understand how some are desperate for a better life. Can you really say that you like the fact that there are children and desperate parents dying in the desert? Those are the individuals that Joel is trying to help and I applaud his efforts.
The placement of some water tanks in the desert doesn't convince anyone to try to illegally immigrate to the US. They are convinced by the conditions and circumstances they are in prior to making the mortally dangerous trek. The majority of Americans don't understand that kind of desperation, but it's an extremely impoverished soul that believes attempting to illegally immigrate should be punished by death.
What Mr. Smith is doing is leaving water in designated, legally mandated areas so that those who are desperate enough to risk their lives trying to make it into the US don't die from lack of water. Humane Borders and Mr. Smith are operating both lawfully and humanely.
Also, due to lack of imagination and reasoning skills, it seems to have entirely alluded those of you who are in opposition to the water tanks that they are known by border patrol and actually provide a means of concentrated traffic by which border patrol can anticipate and apprehend those who are desperate enough to have to use them. They are simply life saving measures that actually aid both the human life of the immigrant and border patrol.
Larry, the article states if he gives them a ride he will be aiding and abetting. The fine is high and he could.go to jail. So he's doing what he can that is legal.
Water in the desert does not guarantee total protection from exposure and elements. It simply convinces them to take further risks with their lives. Why not pick them up and drive them to TUCSON? Is that too much to ask?
