I could never figure out why hospitals have such restrictive rules when dealing w/ domestic partners. They forget that gay couples, like any other patient, are PAYING CUSTOMERS. Why the hell would I give an entity that discriminates against my partner being present my business? That's a very bad business model. That goes for any other entity that wants my gay $$$. We should at least have a civil union option w/ all the benefits of marriage in AZ, I believe that would pass at the ballot box.
This is another example of why Gay Marriage needs to be past. It's just legalized discrimination. If Afro American or other minorites would need to pay around two thousand dollars for a marige liscense . The civil liberties unions would jump on that case. yelling discrimination. Or Let the goverment pay the $ two thousand dollar fees that we have to pay for legal fees for partial benefits which need to be changed in most states . Where as a fifty dollar Marriage liscense gives one those rights in all states.
Thank you Starr and Withee for documenting/telling Our stories~!~ I lived at Adobeland for a short while as well as other Womyn's Land... I'm really looking forward to seeing this project when completed. As the daughter of one of the filmmakers I've been blessed by being able to hear about it since its infancy, and it's very exciting.
Sounds like an extraordinary documentary by an incredible group of women. I can't wait to see this film premiering on the festival circuit soon!
To Teresa and Shari.. Two women that I know and respect! Not only are you a wonderful couple, but you are fantastic parents. It's such a shame to have to fight this battle for what should already be your given rights, but you make me so proud watching your courage and determination to live your truth. I love you both and wish you the best.. All of us do! :0)
Sincerely, your cove family xoxo
Re: “Paper Marriage”
I grew up in Alabama during the 50's and 60's. Look up any story on discrimination back then; replace Negro with gay, and you will have today's news. Look up comments by Klan members about why Negros don't deserve equal rights; change Negro to gay, and you will have the same comments being expressed by "conservatives" today. Go back ever further and read why Negros should not be allowed to serve in the military, and you will find the same reasons being given against repealing "don't ask, don't tell", by congressional candidates,in the Weekly this week.
