I call it Country RAP, or simply, C-RAP.
Thanks for writing about AZPM. I feel its a worthwhile media outlet, both radio and TeeVee. How do I follow the Citizens Advisory Board?
Perhaps many have left KIIM FM because we are tired of the"bubblegum country" they play on endless loops. There is so much better music out there. It is Sirius Radio or Internet stations for me. And no....calling it country while rapping is NOT country.
PointGuardU.com is trash. The site is run by an actual drug-dealing low life thug for those who don't know. He isn't a trained journalist and therefore has no clue how journalism works. It's also funny that this person in question who's name rhymes with "Lace" is BANNED from the University of Arizona campus and from McKale in particular. He is a nasty, petty creep who harasses other local journalists (on the phone, email, PointGuardU boards, and Twitter) when he feels threatened by them or their content. He's gone after newspaper guys, TV guys, other websites and even other fans. Thanks for once again shining a light on the cesspool catastrophe that is PointGuardU. Maybe their followers will realize they can get their UofA news first at more reputable sources.
Thanks, Arizona Daily Star, for this important update on Arizona Public Media. AZPM's news coverage and original programming are outstanding. It is up to our community to keep it financially strong by investing in AZPM; but only 1 in 10 of AZPM's audience members now contributes! Let's step up, Tucson, by continuing to invest in this local treasure - and encouraging our friends and neighbors to do the same.
wow that means we are down to one live local show in the afternoons..... :(
How much is spent at KUAZ for their HD channel's equipment and programming? Has anyone ever heard that programming? What is broadcast on that service? Why doesn't AZPM promote that signal to the general public? The only time there is even a slight mention of KUAZ-HD is at the top of the hour ID break.
I'm in the market for a new stereo for the home. I haven't found a decent, affordable HD receiver on the market locally, and I am not going to spend extra if there isn't a reason for purchasing that gear.
I had the pleasure of working with Forrest at KGUN. His passion and energy for news was without compare. If anyone can beat the "C" word....he can!!!! Good Luck & God Bless, Ray Depa
Congratulations to Cathy Rivers! Her passion for Tucson, and providing our community with wonderful musical explorations and community connections is wonderful. You Rock Cathy!
What are "Wake Up Tucson's" ratings? 0.1? Do they even register?
I've listened to DeSimone a couple of times (very short times). One unfounded opinion after another. As to Fitz, he's one of the few sane people in Tucson. jg
I'm not sure how you're being linked the old columns, but Media Watch is being updated with the rest of the issue. You can find this week's column here: http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/media-w…
BTW -- DeSimone is a total jackass hack.
He NEVER lets the facts get in the way of a good story to support his position ... and then he attacks Stellar ad hominem (for failing to use his newspaper column to fix Tucson's current problems).
Hey DeSimone, why not first apologize for spreading incorrect claims and lying to your listeners? Furthermore, you seem to make a good living sitting on your rear end and complaining about Tucson everyday, yet I don't see you doing anything to fix these problems ... the very same thing you accuse Stellar of committing .
Note to Doug Martin: should yank those 2 clowns off the air. They are a disgrace to Tucson.
Congrats Shoe -- You wrote a good column.
FYI - Don't ever think that comments are ever private on any social media outlet.
Once again, a week late. This Media Watch column is dated 3/26/15. Is this a case of no actual updates, or problems iwth getting updated columns into print? Just curious!
Prostituting the AM band has replaced "in the public's interest" years ago. Its ALL about the money.
I just moved back to Tucson and saw an old flyer of Dan Babich. It is sad when you try to catch up and find out someone has passed so long after the fact. I really loved to talk to him when he used to come into PDQ Records where I worked from 1986 to 2001. It has been most likely over 15 years since I last saw him. He was a great radio announcer and ad great man.
Kudos and congratulations to Kelli Gero!
ANOTHER "On the Cheap" issue with BOTH Tucson sports stations is the consistently terrible operation of their automated switching systems.
Both 1290 and 1490 suffer EPIDEMICS of crosstalk (two sources airing at once),.
It's usually local ads/promos/traffic reports airing over network feeds and then punctuated by "dead air" caused by local inserts having already aired where they weren't supposed to.
The fact that radio outlet owners happily put their stations on"autopilot" with nobody on site to correct these programming errors, and that the FCC now even ALLOWS such a practice, is insulting to the listening audience.
