I like the tacos at Calle Tepa. But I was disappointed when they started charging extra for a basket of chips. I understand that a self-serve system for chips will be abused, and people will just load up basket after basket (one reason why we can't have nice things). But for me it's the fine difference between a good value and not. It seems they could have tried offering one small basket of chips with an order, keeping control of it instead of letting people run rampant.
Thank you for keeping us in the know about Tucson restaurants' comings and goings. We're winter visitors, so I'm always curious about what has changed.
Yes, thank you for pointing that out Sonoran. When I read what I had wrote in print, I cringed at the doucheyness that was that ill timed plug.
You have to understand that writing for a print piece is challenging sometimes when it comes to timelines. Especially if you are doing a bunch of different pieces. There is the date you are writing it, the date it is due, the day it goes to print, and then the day it goes out to the public. I usually do my writing in front of a calendar to avoid such faux pas... However, eventually I suppose everyone makes a mistake.
On a related, albeit different, note, I did go to the supper club, and it was awesome!

Being from Newport RI, we are anxiously awaiting the opening of Jackson Tavern. We grew up with anything and everything clams, lobsters, seafood and chourico (Portuguese sausage) and may prove to be tough critics!
Like them or not, they are Tucson born and bred.

El Herradero is horrible!! Rude employees, first of all. If you speak only English (this IS the US), plan on being treated poorly. If you don't look latino, also expect to be treated poorly. MAYBE I could deal with that, but I cannot deal with flies in the meat and cheese display cases. There are also flies in that little bakery case, too. I'd say, just don't bother. I live near the new Eastside carneceria. Haven't tried it yet, but I plan to soon. Hope it is much better than the previously mentioned market.
